Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problems of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

13 problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

After fueling the vehicle with 12 gallons of gas, (filling it up from half a tank) the fuel gauge read empty and the out of fuel / low fuel indicator light was on. The vehicle stalled twice while in traffic driving it home, but did not result in an accident as traffic was light at the time. After calling the dealership they told me this is a common problem that happens every 50k miles "give or take" and that I need to have my fuel level sensor and fuel pump replaced. In looking online, I find that this is indeed a very common problem that has resulted in crashes and other safety issues and has been ignored by gm and the NHTSA for several years now despite the constantly growning number of claims. The dealer stated it would cost "somewhere around $900" to have this fixed. I told them what I thought of that, bought the delphi replacement unit myself for $200 and made the repairs on my own. However gm is going to be getting a bill for this from my lawyers.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

After I filled the fuel tank in my Chevrolet Trailblazer the fuel light came on and the fuel gauge read empty. Since then I have been resetting my trip meter when ever I fuel up,but my husband forgot to after filling up and ran out of fuel when he wasn't sure of how much gas the vehicle actually had. I contacted the local Chevrolet dealership after I found that the NHTSA had a defect investigation on my vehicle. The service department informed me that it would only be replaced if the vehicle was 120,000 miles or under and until August 2015. Now I have 122,000 miles I'm responsible for replacing the defective part myself? the problem and danger of engine stall still exists due to low fuel levels no matter what the mileage is. The vehicle manufacture did not inform us that we had to dispose of the vehicle after 120,000 miles because it was going to be unsafe and no warranty to repair a dangerous recall. I feel that Chevrolet should replace the fuel level sensor no matter what the current mileage is because the dangers still exist. I do not understand the thought process behind this and I greatly appreciate help with this problem.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

We own a 2006 chevy Trailblazer with 86492 miles on it. Yesterday after filling the vehicle to a full tank of gas. The fuel gauge would drop to empty and the empty tank light will come on.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

I stopped to fill my car with gas as I was on a little less than a quarter of a tank. The fuel light had not come on, nor the check engine light. After filling the tank up all the way with fuel, I got in the car and the fuel light came on, and the needle wouldn't leave empty. It stayed this way for about a mile till I got home. I shut my car off in the driveway and waited a few minutes thinking that it must play "catch up," but when I turned it back on, it went to full immediately, but then immediately went to empty with the fuel light on. As soon as this happened, the check engine light came on as well, and goes on and off, which I suspect has something to do with the sensor in the fuel tank. I googled this problem and found that there are several sites, with a lot of people experiencing the same exact problems. I am now having to set my trip meter so that I don't run out of gas till I get it fixed. Hoping someone looks into this.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

After filling the fuel tank to full, the fuel gage read empty and the display read "low fuel'. After driving a few miles, the gage read different readings from 1/4 tank to 3/4 tank and would sometime read full and slowly drop to empty.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

After filling up my tank, as I pulled away from the pumps, the gauge registered empty, low fuel light came on, and check engine symbol came on. I pulled into parking lot; the engine sputtered and refused to start for a few minutes. After a day or two, the gas gauge showed full, but it fluctuates between full and 1/2 all of the time. This happens every time I fill up my tank! I am afraid to go out of town because of the low fuel light coming on. I now have to rely on my trip meter being on display constantly so I can estimate how much gas I have left. I have seen hundreds of complaints regarding the same thing happening in Trailblazers, but I have not yet received a recall notice from gm. Shame on you, gm! and you wonder why we're trading your product for foreign autos!.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2011

I was driving the truck and the fuel gauge was reading that there was gas in the tank. The vehicle died causing loss of power steering and power brakes. I was able to pull the truck to the side of the road with great effort. Had my wife or teenage daughter been driving the outcome might had been very different. After filling the gas tank the gauge went to e and never worked properly afterwards.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

The gas gauge on the dashboard does not work. It always says the tank is empty, even after filling it.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

I have a 2006 chevy Trailblazer and today after filling up the gas tank the fuel gauge malfunctioned and the engine light came on. The vehicle only has 35000 miles and has been well maintained since I bought it new. After doing a search online it seems that this happens to everyone that owns one of these vehicles and the repair ranges from $800 to $1100. If this is such a well known flaw, shouldn't there be a recall to have this corrected? I don't think that every consumer should be on the hook to correct an obvious design flaw. This is a potentially dangerous situation since there is no way to tell how much fuel is in the vehicle.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

Don't have the exact dates and miles but I have had 2 instances where my gas guage stopped working after filling up. First time I had the issue fixed at the chevy dealership while under warranty, then maybe a year later it broke again. I have not gone to fix it. Due to the guage never showing gas in the vehicle my check engine light comes on. I drive about 200 miles until I go and fill which would be around 1/2 a tank. I cannot go on long trips as I would never know where I am on gas. One time breaking I can see since this appears to be a well known issue with the vehicle, but a 2nd time after the dealership replaced it seems like really faulty parts or dealership errors. I have been quoted between $300-$500 to fix the problem but not by a chevy dealership. I have many issues where I purchased this Trailblazer. I don't know if chevy would fix this again at their cost and I would hope this becomes a recall after nearly 1,000,000 complaints.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2009

Upon filling my gas tank at a local gas station, the check engine light came on and my gas gauge began to go haywire with many fuel level fluctuations. My local dealer told me that my gas cap was defective, which I then replaced. The check engine light went out a few days later, but my gas gauge continues to malfunction. I am now told that a replacement of the sensor will cost between $800 to $1000 and that my extended warranty does not cover this. Internet research has revealed hundreds of similar complaints. This company has received my tax dollars for a bailout only to expect more money for a defect that is obviously poor quality parts and workmanship.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2008

My 2006 chevy Trailblazer gas gauge is not operational, I have read blogs and discussion boards and this defect is common on 06 Trailblazers. At the time of filling up your tank the engine warning light comes on and the gauge will swing to full and then gradually drop down to empty and the low fuel light will come on. Like myself,t here are a lot of owners depending on the "fuel used" indication and resetting at the time of fill up.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2007

Fuel gauge reads eradict. After filling, reads empty. Just keeps getting worse. Now it will read empty when I know there is at least 1/2 tank judging by the trip meter.
