1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

I was driving my 2010 Chevrolet Traverse lt on the freeway, when with no warnings at all. The engine shut off at 67 mph in mid heavy traffic. I pointed her to the center divider since I was in the fast lane. We came to a halt and I wasn't all the way out of traffic. I got it home to my mechanic and he said he had no idea what happened at all to her, since I had just had her serviced and was told she was ready to travel. My mechanic was dumb founded and showed me just in the last year this has happened to many driver's with my same car. And mine was just serviced and a new starter put is, as well as the timing belt looked over. Oil changed, transmission looked at, new catalytic converters valves cleaned, plugs replaced, and fast tank and lines purged and cleaned.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

I took my car in for motor light and oil change. I was advised that my timing chain was some wear and needs changing. I was told by a mechanic that these cars have this problem all the time and a recall should have been issued on them. It was for the 2009, but a lot of the 2010 had the same chain and issue as the 2009. Of course the dealer is not gong to agree to anything. They are telling me its 2800, just to change the belt as precaution. This is price gouging when they know it's an issue. I need help. . .

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

Our 2010 Traverse has just over 91,000 miles on it. We took our vehicle to a local gm dealer to have a check engine light diagnosed. The dealer came back and informed me we needed to have our timing belts replaced and would cost at least $3000 to repair. The more I dug into this diagnosis, I've come across numerous posts from other '09-'10 owners with the same issue. Some had experienced sudden loss in power while traveling at highway speeds and others hadn't even had a check engine light come on. There were some owners that had to have these items replaced at around 60,000mi. I have reached out to gm and they informed me that there is nothing they can do to help alleviate this cost, nor are they in a position to issue a recall. They also informed me that we missed the 'warranty period' by a year and a half and that there are no 'special bulletins' related to my vehicle. I asked if they had an increase in other calls about this same issue and they denied any knowing of this. My dealership told me that they are seeing such an increase in this issue that they keep an inventory of parts on hand and they perform at least 3 timing chain repairs a week. I'm fortunate that our dealership is working with us on doing what they can to alleviate some of the cost, but gm is not doing anything on their end to acknowledge there is a potential problem or willing to help out.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2016

The timing chain has stretched and the dealer says it will take 19 hours to change it. Auto mfg went to timing chains from rubber belts, so they don't have to change it. The warranty is for 5 yrs or 100,000 miles. This is a known issue and the warranty for this expensive job should be extended. Once the chain brakes, the car is done. The car makes noise and doesn't accelerate properly because of this issue. First noticed the check engine light on about 6 months or so ago. It wasn't until we broke down in canada that the dealer there said it was the timing chain when they replaced the throttle body.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

I have had the power train repaired twice, once while under warranty, and then at cost. I have paid more than $2k on the repair and yet the check engine light stays on and a check of the error codes reveals the same problem. The vehicle has failed emissions testing as a result of the problem. I've seen numerous complaints on this site with the same issues. There's definitely a defect within this model year's engine system involving the power train. I am requesting an investigation and possible recall. I can't put out more money to fix a maintenance problem that will never be fixed. The car shakes as if it's idle when driving and the check engine light blinks off and on profusely. I'm afraid to drive it fearing something terrible will happen. The car was taken to waldorf Chevrolet. They are not cooperative with providing service details, one because they claim to have a new system. And they are not helpful with understanding why the power train continues to be an issue after they "repaired" it. I do have a copy of the repair documents it needed. Also, one set of seat belts in the second row have fallen apart on its own (meaning there were being used as designed and the fastener just crumbled).

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

On the highway doing around 65 mph, alarm chimes went off, display center showed "service stabilitrak", "service traction control", "engine power reduced". The car quickly decelerated to 10 mph and would not go any faster. Had to pull over and shut down. This was only one of the many times this has happened over the past year and a half. It has been in and out of the service center, diagnosed with 4 or 5 different issues, repaired 2 or 3 components all with the same outcome: the engine power reduced issue comes back. The dealer tells me it's a "new issue" every time so at this point I have no faith in their "fixes", I feel that when my wife, kids, or me are in the car I will eventually be in a horrific accident where we all die and hope that at least this message will come out then. Gm has been sort of helpful but from my research/dealings with this issue (30+ hours), it seems like something that should have been recalled on several different model gm automobiles. I am at a loss. I haven't fixed the most recent issue ($700, transmission internal mode switch) in hopes that, using my own research/technical expertise, I can find the real issue behind these failures and not just what the "computer error codes" are pointing too. The irony in this "feature" is that, from my understanding, it goes into this engine power reduced mode for safety reasons so that you won't lose control of the car or other problem. Yet reducing the engine power on a busy highway or the PA turnpike where there is nowhere to safely pull over is the most dangerous problem of all. Notes for other consumers: so far the mechanic has flushed the throttle body (cleaned it), and replaced the timing belt . Taking to a different mechanic for a 2nd opinion on the most recent internal mode switch diagnosis.
