A few months ago my check engine light came on. I had my mechanic test it and it came back for timing chain. He said he knew right away when he saw the code because he's seen a lot of Traverse's with timing chain problems. I had less than 90,000 miles on my car! I called gm but they said there is no recall for my vehicle. Last month I found out my cousin just had her timing chain replaced on her Traverse just before 100,000 miles. There are also a ton of forum posts about Traverse timing chain issues. It's absurd such a crucial part is fault in so many of these cars. A recall needs to be issued.
While driving the car down the highway the check engine light came on. When pulling to the side if the road the car just shut of and went dead. Tried restarting the car it wouldn't start. Had it towed to the shop and I now have a $8,900 bill because the engine seized up due to the timing chain. So I now have a big blue permanent yard fixture because who can afford to fix this car in the pandemic. I've have researched this and there has been alot of people with this issue. Why has there not been a recall to fix this known issue? this is very dangerous. Why is chevy not fixing this problem with these vehicles??.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light had suddenly illuminated before the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine timing chain needed to be replaced. The timing chain was replaced but approximately 30,000 miles later the failure had reoccurred. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer patriot Chevrolet located at 40 auto park blvd, limerick PA, who diagnosed that the failure was due to a faulty timing chain. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
My vehicle has the check engine light on and is throwing dtc code p0008 which is caused by premature wear of the timing chain(s). This seems to be a well known issue and in fact the same engine has a "special warranty" on the 2009 Traverse and several other lambda platform vehicles prior to 2010. This is the same engine. The special warranty currently in place on the older models is 11340-c. This condition could lead to a catastrophic failure of the engine and strand the vehicle - possibly in a dangerous place without the ability to move it.
Timing chain as well as catalytic converter completely destroyed after the timing chain was installed by a Chevrolet dealership less than 1 year go. Check engine light came on vehicle went into safety mode and now will not start. Chevrolet will not help cover the cost of repairs since it is out of warranty. The car only has 48000 miles.
The check engine light has been on for two years in my Traverse and my local mechanic doesn't know why. For about the same amount of time, when filling the tank we have to turn all electronics off and then after the fill we have to pump the gas pedal and coax it into starting. Again, local mechanic doesn't know what to do that won't cost a fortune, so advised to continue driving if what we do works. For the last month or so the stabilitrak warning light has come on periodically and then the reduced engine power light also comes on. This happens when it is really cold. At first nothing else happened, but the last three times we did lose power. I went down to 40mph while driving on the interstate and then at 21 below last night we couldn't go over 10-15 mph. After turning the car off for a while it normally re-sets which it did last night and we finally made it home. This engine power reduction and stabilitrak issue happens while driving. The check engine light is always on when the car is on.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated periodically when the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not reared. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,500.
Check engine light comes on and off during time that the vehicle is stationary or while moving. Worn timing chains; timing chains and guides require replacement of old chains which were still used on the Traverse built in April 2010. Chevrolet has many documented blogs of these timing chains being bad but still used them in their builds.
While driving to work check engine light came on. Took to chevey dealer in somerset ky to have code pulled. Was told the timing chain needed replaced. Was told this was not a common problem but after researching found out it is very common for this vehicle. Other issues with this vehicle has also been air going out and airbag problems. Very frustrating to have to repair so much on a vehicle that doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it yet.
While driving with my daughter my truck started to pick up speed than slow down as if it was about to cut off. The check engine light came on than the engine power started to reduce . We had it checked out and we told several different codes showed. The vehicle will not turn back on. The dealership informed us that the timing chain had stretched and needed to be replaced. After looking up recalls on the vehicle and the problem others are having with the same make and model I called gm to see if they were willing to help. I was told there's nothing they can do because the problem is not big as of now but in the future if they continue to have them problems they would send me out a recall on it. My problem is how many more complaints do they need before they recall timing chain for the Traverse. I feel they are very dangerous while driving if the trucks will shut down while driving high speeds. A lot of people can be hurt being this.
My Traverse currently has 75k miles and is already having problems with the timing chain. I took it to chevy but. Was going to be around 3k to get fixed. This car is almost brand new and we've taken care of it and upper maintenance. Its still running but the check engine light is on and I cant afford it. I thought chevy would stick to their word and keeping great quality cars. Ive always bought chevy and currently my 3rd chevy car but its obsurd how cheaper and more problematic theyre getting and ive looked into it online and a lot of people on various sites have complaints about the timing chain at around 80k miles and once it gets fixed it has the constant problem over and over. All I ask is chevy to make it right and keep their word and sell good cars and put a recall on it and fix the problem. I know chevy makes great money and they can make it right and give people what they pay for. My car still have a lot of life and im just so disappointed in this, its so stressful. Please help. What ive uploaded is only from that website but their is many!! and bad word going around because of it. Please make it right and help us.
Timing chains stretched. Reviewed online complaints and this is a common problem for this vehicle. Chevy has not issued a recall. Check engine light came on and would go off sometimes. When I took the vehicle in I was told that my strut was also leaking. $3000 later I have new timing chains and breaks, and still need to pay an additional $1000 for the struts. I drive mainly highway to and from work. No reason timing chain should have just stretched and had to be replaced.
Tl-the contatc owns a 2010 chevorlet Traverse. The contact stated left the engine running while in the store. They came back out, drive off and the engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle had multiple failures as well. However, the engine failed again and never restarted. The check engine light did illuminate. The vehicle was taken to stockers chevorlet (814) 515-9941 701 benner pike, state college, PA 16801 where they were informed that the engine failure blew out four sylinders and the failure was due to a bad timing chain. They also did nothing for them the vehicle was not repaired and still needs an engine. The manufacturer was not informed. The failure mileage was unknown. Jw.
We had a check engine light come on and when tested we received several different codes. The vehicle did not accelerate and ran rough. The dealership informed us that the timing chain had stretched and needed to be replaced. This appears to be a common issue with several different gm cars including the acadia and enclave. Gm provides a special coverage adjustment for several makes and models for this issue under "special coverage adjustment #11340c", but not the 2010 Traverse.
I have a 2010 chevy Traverse. First it started with a warning lights of the stabilizing track being turned off and my abs light came on. On 2/18/2018 my reduce engine warming popped on while I'm doing 75mph and my car lost power while I'm on the California freeway, shaking and slowing completely down. I'm pregnant and I was scared that someone couldn't of just slammed right into me. I pulled over to shut down my vehicle to try to reset it but it didn't work. All the same warning lights came back on and the car wouldn't go past 40mph while sputtering on my way to work. I bought the SUV used two years ago without any problems until recently. I was not informed about any recalls with this vehicle and that's very upsetting since this is my family car and my self and my kids are in it 99% of the time and my job is 70 miles away from my home. To make things worse, now my check engine light stud on. I don't have money for any major repairs. Especially one that is a wide spread issue and gm is aware of.
At roughly 130000 miles, I took my vehicle to a mechanic because of a check engine light that was on. I was told that it was due to my timing chains. I have known of another case of the same problem in a vehicle with the same engine as mine that had the exact same thing happen. The mechanic told me that he fixed at lease 12 vehicles with this problem in the last year.
P008 p0017 same problems with earlier years. This should be covered as well. Driving and check engine light comes on to show these codes. Cost for repair is way too much money.
My check engine light appeared this evening in my 2010 Traverse as well as service stabilitrack and traction control. As I accelerated my fuel level indicator went down and when I hit the brakes it would shoot up to full. I am one of many to deal with the issue with specifically a chevy Traverse.
At 68,000 miles, the check engine light came on, I took it to the local chevy dealer who said it was a timing chain problem. They said that it would cost about $3200 to fix. Doing some research (obd2 codes p0008 and p0009) this is a common problem with this particular engine, spanning many models and model years.
Check engine light came on at about 78,000 miles. Dealer indicated it was the drive chain needed repair ($2000-2500). This problem was covered by special policy #11340b special coverage adjustment timing chain wear " in 2009 chevy Traverse models. My vehicle has had excellent maintenance and care, usually by the dealer. This should not be an issue at only 78,000 miles.
Check engine light came on along withtraction control. Code for check engine was p0008.
2010 chevy Traverse. Check engine light code p0017. Dealer is stating it is a timing chain, cost around $2700. Traverse only has 101,000 miles on it. My chevy Traverse should not be needing a timing chain replaced at such low mileage. Gm is not being cooperative with all the complaints of this problem online. There are specific areas in the country where gm is paying for this repair but it is VIN specific. Gm is stating that if manufactured in certain plants, timing chain is a problem, even though it is the same engine! I have had more recalls on this vehicle than any other vehicle I have owned. I once loved this vehicle and thought gm would take care of known problems, now I know that I am wrong. I will not buy another gm vehicle.
Check engine light came on in my 2010 chevy Traverse. The dealership indicated the timing chain had stretched and if left unrepaired could lead to catastrophic failure of the engine. The repair cost is $3500. The vehicle only has 67000 miles on it, and has always had routine maintenance and oil changes conducted. Further investigation revealed that 2007-2009 models of the same engine on similar models had the exact same issue. Additionally, a simple google search reveals many forums that have complaints of the same issue on their 2010 models. It appears that the problem was not corrected in the 2010 model year, or at least not in certain run of the engine. Whether the same bad chain was used in 2010 engines or the problem that was discovered in the 2007-2009 model years, was not discovered until after the 2010 models were built, and they were just not included in the service bulletin is the question. Because a well maintained vehicle with only 67000 miles to have a bad timing chain is rare, as many different repair shops have confirmed. Those same shops also confirmed they have seen many of the Traverse. Acadia, and enclave models with the same timing chain issue.
Timing chain is out of sync. Mechanic states that error codes are causing the the check engine light to illuminate that are based around skipping/slipping timing chain. States that timing chain must be repaired. If timing chain fails to work correctly, engine could seize cause the vehicle fail unexpectedly.
The check engine light came on at around 82,000 miles. We took it to the dealership and they are telling us the timing chain is stretched and needs replaced. $2,200. 00 to repair. I've done some research and this very issue was fixed under warranty for the 2007-2009 model years. For some reason gm is not warranting beyond that. While researching this issue I found instances where the chain catastrophically failed causing the drive system to lock up.
Stability control and check engine light and transmission wont work park and now it dosent work why no recall too many complaints.
My 2010 Traverse with 76,200 miles displayed the check engine light. I had it checked at a local parts store and the code was p0008. I took the Traverse to orr Chevrolet where it was diagnosed with slack in the timing chain. I contacted gm and they advised that they wouldn't do anything about it since it was a 2010 and out of the 5 year power train warranty. Despite the fact they had extended the warranty on the 2009 models because they had the same issue. This is a known defect on the Traverse and gm should recall and cover repairs. As it stands, I am about to pay $2300. 00 to repair what is a known defect. Gm made no significant design changes to prevent this defect from causing the chain to gain slack and cause engine issues to develop. The vehicle was moving at 35 mph when it initially came on but came back on after being reset while sitting in the lot of autozone. The Traverse should not have such a failure in only 72,000 miles, there is a defect and should be recalled in models later than 2009. The design changes if any for the 2010 models clearly didn't solve the issue. The vehicles is currently at the dealer, and I don't have the estimate or receipt at this time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the air bags system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000. Ss.
Our 2010 Traverse was diagnosed with a stretched timing chain with only 63,400 miles. This is a major repair cost- chevy dealer estimate of $4364! this is a documented and admitted defect by general motors for the 2009 model year Traverse. Our vehicle is an early 2010 model year vehicle (built Sep 3, 2009 and put into service Jan 4, 2010). Gm is aware of this wide spread issue and has not accepted responsibility for repairs. Additionally, we haven't been able to use the remote start (during winter in mn!) because check engine light disables this feature.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated when having the vehicle checked for a routine inspection with a certified mechanic, the check engine warning light illuminated. The certified mechanic stated that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who confirmed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,360.
Engine was running rough; vehicle was sluggish. Check engine light came on. Dealership, burlington Chevrolet, ran a diagnostic and there were some failed codes (p0011 and p008), all related to the camshaft and timing chains. To repair, it would cost about $2,700 since I was six months over the powertrain warranty. They contacted gm and they stated that it would cost me $681 plus tax. I agreed to have the repairs completed which also included replacing the waterpump which was leaking. I have read online that timing chain problems on have occurred more frequently on 2007-2010 chevy Traverse, Saturn outlook, GMC acadia, and Buick enclave. All of these SUV¿s have the 3. 6 liter v6 engine with dual overhead cams. What is happening on these vehicles is that the timing chains are stretching which leads to correlation errors with the cam sensors and actuators. After 2010, general motors has seemed to correct the problem with updated chains and ecm calibrations.
I have a 2010 chevy Traverse with 67,000 miles on it. Check engine light comes on and detects timing chains. Take it to the dealership and $3200 later had new timing chains put on. There is no way with that amount of mileage that this should have to be repaired yet. When is this recall going to take effect!!!! on top of that the warranty expired in March, so no help what so ever. . . . . Gm needs to step up.
Car stalled out 1 month prior to this particular incident in the middle of a residential intersection. Check engine light did not come on either. Took the car into goodyear for a check and nothing showed up on their computer, car was driven for 20 min without incident either. Was advised to try and use a fuel injection flush. Gasoline could be smelled inside the car after the stalling incident. 9/13/while driving on the freeway the check engine light came on, car started to slow down dramatically. Strong smell of gasoline started to seep into the car. Car finally stalled out as we approached the shoulder lane. The smell of gasoline was very strong at this point, inside and outside. Car was towed to goodyear. Hooked up car to the computer and there were 6 things wrong with the car. Was told to take it into the chevy dealership where I bought the car in 2010. Owner of goodyear store also informed us that prior to our car coming in, 3 cars of the same make, model, and year came in this past year for the same problem. They advised all of the other 2010 chevy Traverse owners to go back to the dealership. Brought in the car to dealership. Upon starting up my car, the entire service area started to smell of gasoline. Car was hooked up to the computer and I was then told that I would have to pay $2200 to fix the "multiple problems". The 5 out of 6 fuel injectors were misfiring. Fuel pump, injectors, spark plugs, and more need to be replaced. Check engine light never turned on once since I bought this car in 2010, until the incident on 9/13/15 on the freeway. My warranty just ran out in may of this year, without incident! now that my warranty has expired, this happens!.
Traction control warning light flashed on and off several times. When it was on the steering became difficult. Tried to pass a slow moving truck. Engine rpms when up but vehicle did not accelerate. Check engine light came on. Had mechanic check code and the following codes show up u0121, u0073 and u0121 he stated a product safety notice #14515b had been issued for this problem. Contacted a chevy dealer and was told this was not a recall issue.
On the way to longview texas, we were driving on the loop in palestine when the stabilitrak light came on, the check engine light came on, and park assist light came on. The vehicle lost power quickly and we had to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. I am pregnant and my 3 year old was in the car. Vehicle was towed, I had to pay for a rental car. The bacon Chevrolet in palestine charged me $150 to run diagnostics and give me an oil change since that was due up. They fixed three recalls that were due on my vehicle I had owned for 1. 5 yrs, then none of the lights came back on. Again on may 12th, yesterday, my vehicle stabilitrac light came on, check engine light came on, and the vehicle rpm's would go to about 3,000 only driving 40 mph. I was able to make it home and parked the car. My husband came out to check on it and the stabilitrak light had gone off but check engine light is still on. I called local dealership tom light chevy and was told "there have been no issues with this", they must not get the internet there. This has been a huge problem with multiple owners of both the Traverse and the equinox (my sister has one that has the same issue) from the 2009 all the way to 2013 model from what I have seen. I want to know why there has been no recall and why we are paying to run diagnostics or to fix things when the lights come on again and tell us the issue is something else?! gm needs to do a recall or they are going to lose many customers with the way it is being handled. If these lights come on again soon, this will be three times in six months! I am looking at trading this vehicle in and telling everyone I know to stay away from gm if this is handled improperly.
