When shutting the vehicle off, shifting to park pushing the button to shut off, the dash indicates shift to park after the vehicle is shut off. Vehicle will not lock. This is not safe to leave this way.
Vehicle: 2019 Chevrolet Traverse issue: “shift to park” warning – vehicle fails to recognize it is in park I am filing a complaint regarding a persistent &dangerous defect with my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse involving the “shift to park” warning system. For the past several years, my vehicle has repeatedly failed to recognize that it is in park, even when it clearly is. This issue has escalated into a serious safety and reliability concern. Most recently, I was stranded in a store parking lot for over two hours because my vehicle would not properly shut off or restart due to the false “shift to park” warning. I had to call someone to disconnect the battery to prevent it from draining completely, which caused additional cost and inconvenience. After reconnecting the battery, the vehicle still would not start for another 2hours. This defect leaves me at risk of being stranded at any time, including in unsafe or isolated. As a single parent of 4 young children, this creates a significant safety concern for my family. This problem has been ongoing since oct 2023 and has occurred repeatedly since then, and consistently every month since then, often four or more times per month. I have brought this issue to a Chevrolet dealership, reed-lallier Chevrolet in fayetteville, nc, multiple times. Despite being charged diagnostic fees, no permanent fix has been provided. This is a known issue with this vehicle model related to a faulty shifter assembly or park detection system. This defect impacts the vehicle’s ability to shut off, restart, & function reliably, creating a serious safety hazard. I am requesting that this issue be formally investigated & that appropriate action be taken to require a recall or manufacturer-covered repair. This problem is widespread among similar vehicles & should not continue to leave drivers stranded or at risk. Mileage: 44,410 miles dates of occurrences: oct 2023-present dealer contacted: reed-lallier Chevrolet on raeford rd fayetteville nc.
Our 2019 Traverse transmission around 130,000 miles started shuddering when slowly accelerating or driving. Not sure what causes this but I do know that it should be doing this as well as getting the shift to park message. I looked online and found that it's supposed to be the torque converter. I then contacted a transmission repair specialist and he stated that changing the fluid may make it worse or make it possibly fail altogether. Then I found a video about shudder fix and I added one of those packets to the transmission and it stopped the shudder but it now seems to be trying to creep back. This is a known issue with most people not being able to afford the $9000+ repair costs. The shift to park issue is another issue that shouldn't be happening and the dealership will charge an arm and a leg for the repairs on this as well. Pressing the gear shift button about 5 to 10 times after shifting to park is a short term solution because that issue is tied to a spring action underneath the shifter to tell the car I'm in park. I found a bypass piece that is required to resolve the issue but I shouldn't have to do that to get this vehicle to work properly. Chevy needs to do a recall on this or they run the risk of having a bunch of them on the market where we all got rid of them and won't buy anymore Chevrolet vehicles. This is the second newer model vehicle I had from them. The first one was an impala and the dealership didn't know why the screen would go black and cause the car to start hesitating horribly. So I left it with the dealership, they can have it back.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while attempting to turn off the vehicle, the auto start/stop system failed to turn off as intended. The contact stated that the engine was running. The message "stand/park" was displayed on the instrument panel, and the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed. The contact was unaware of the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a claim was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.
Shift to park notice. For several months the shifter has had issues going into park. The shifter is in the park position but isnt reading. I know a few other people with similar Traverse models in my area having the same issue. Im also aware that some models of gm SUV have already recalled this part. After having to wait over 5 minutes multiple times for the car to recognize that its in the park position I decided to get this replaced. This is an issue I believe a recall should be noticed and I should be reimbursed for the parts and labor of this.
Transmission went out does not move at all with only 49,000 miles on the car the car always had sifting problems. Brought the car brand new off the lot. One owner. Before the transmission went out when I will stop at the red lights or stop signs the car would just take off for no reason. With my foot still on the brakes or the car would just stall when I am driving it right in the middle of traffic. GMC needs to held accountable before some one gets killed. ??????.
Shift to park error, car will not go into park. A well known gm issue that apparently has yet to be recalled.
After fueling car the starting continue turning over after you release button. Now while drivering it hesitate sometime loose power steering. And when stopped and the car dies when it does it’s stop /start now there a delay in continuing on and now brake light come on when it start back. Sometimes lose power and if you disconnect cable to let car reset light goes off until the start/stop and repeats process with park light back on ect.
On [xxx], my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse (VIN [xxx] ) experienced a complete transmission failure. The vehicle began to hesitate, jerk during acceleration, and then completely lost the ability to shift or drive. It had to be towed, and the dealership confirmed that the transmission must be replaced. This is extremely concerning because gm previously issued recall 20v668000 involving missing bolts in the start-stop accumulator of the transmission, which can cause fluid leaks and loss of propulsion—a potential safety hazard. Although my VIN does not show this recall as active, the symptoms and failure seem directly related to this known defect. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether this recall should be expanded or reopened to include more affected vehicles. In addition to the transmission failure, I have had to replace the purge solenoid valve three times due to persistent check engine lights and fuel system issues, which suggests deeper reliability issues with emissions and vapor management. Lastly, there is now a hole in the exhaust pipe, which is affecting performance and may pose a safety or environmental concern due to potential carbon monoxide exposure. These multiple powertrain and emissions-related failures within the same vehicle raise serious concerns about the long-term safety, reliability, and manufacturing quality of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this model year and VIN range further. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My shift to park didn’t stop alarming and drained my battery so badly that I was stranded for 4. 5hrs and I had to replace it and the alternator!.
I had to replace my 2019 Traverse transmission around 105,000 miles but had a shuddering when slowly accelerating or driving since around 70,000 miles. Possibly a programming issue with the transmission control module?? because after replacing transmission the shuddering still happened and I had to reprogram the transmission control module again and then the shuddering is 95% gone. Also , shift to park alert is a big issue too. If you put the car in park sometimes you have to maneuver the shift knob and tap it to make the “park to shift” go away so I can lock my car.
Upon shifting to park, an error message prompts us to "shift to park". The shifter is in park position, however the vehicle says it is not. The chevy dealer recreated the issue and advised to repair because it will lead to not being able to turn off the engine, or not being able to start the engine, or it will drain the battery. Any of the above could lead to a safety issue depending on where the failure could occur. I had the veicle repaired at the expense of $501. 29.
Faulty sensor in the shifter assembly. This prevents the car from turning off and displays an error message “shift to park” this issue is recalled on models 2020 and newer but not 2019 which is an oversight and should be.
When placing the Traverse in park the car will not shut off and warns that the car is not in park while other indicators show that it actually is in park. Confusing and worried that it is not in park and that the car con not be safely shut off. Flipping the shift knob and button numerous times has, so far, finally allowed the car to shut off safely.
Shift to park and warming beep saying vehicle not in park also a bad smell coming from vents when start the engine makes me dizzy and also paid over $600 for repairs to ac still not fix freon leaks .
Received a warning on my dashboard when trying to turn off vehicle that vehicle was not in park. The vehicle however was in park. Vehicle would not turn completely off. Had to keep turning vehicle on and messing with shifting, turning it back off until it finally recognize it was in park. Have not taken it to a shop yet.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while his wife was attempting to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle failed to turn off. The message "shift to park" was displayed on the screen. The vehicle was left running for thirty minutes before the contact's wife was able to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Car is constantly getting the shirt to park error message when the car is in park. The car’s lights and other electrical panels on the inside will not shut off because of this issue.
This vehicle reports a "shift to park" error message when parking the car. The gearshift is in the parked position but the sensor if not responding correctly. The alarm continues to buzz and we are unable to turn the car off and exit the vehicle. We must continue to "wiggle" the gear shift and even drive around the block and try to park again to have this message stop. Very afraid that the car is not recognizing the "parked" position and will move even though we think it is parked. We understand that this has been an issue with Chevrolet since 2017 and no recall has been issued. Please help.
Car showing that car is not in park and constantly kills battery. Shift to park warning, antilock brake warning, parking brake warning, and forward collision warning continue to come on. Dealer says now partially covered under extended warranty after deductible, but battery needs replacement for $375.
Frequently receive warning message “shift to park” while the car is already at a complete parked state. You have to engage brake and wiggle the shifter to allow car to shut off. Another issue, the car display comes on and the car alarm beeps regarding the stabilitrak. This happens on colder days usually below 40 degrees. Dealership wants $200+ to evaluate but states common concern they receive.
Transmission issues vehicle drives forward when in reverse vehicle will no go into reverse vehicle will not drive or go into reverse.
When I push the button to turn off vehicle it dings and says shift to park. I cannot stop it from doing it. One day my vehicle did it for 45 minutes. I could not do anything lock my door anything this is a hazard what if I was out of town and someone tried to steal my car because it would not stop doing this. I see on social media this is happening to a lot of 2019 chevy Traverse owners.
I took my truck to the dealer back in 2022 for the specific reasons that the truck is being recalled now but my vehicle doesn’t qualify for the recalls. My vehicle has been having the same issues as the 2019 chevy Traverse recalls and I just saw that my truck is also leaking transmission oil which is linked to the 2019 recall but my truck doesn’t qualify. It started smelling like it was burning during the freeway drive today and when I got home, I noticed the oil leak I drive around 15 to 20 miles a day driving six children in my truck for safety and my truck is no longer safe to drive. I want to know why when I took my car in 2022 for the specific issues. They told me that it was pretty much all in my head that my truck was running fine and now I come to find out there are these recalls in effect, but my truck doesn’t qualify when the check engine light is on in my car for the specific reasons. I did contact the dealer where I took my truck in 2022 and they do have the paperwork to prove that I took my car and they told me someone would call me back to see what was going on. This was four days ago and nothing has happened and they also didn’t email me the paperwork like they told me they would.
Veh continues to display service stabilitrak when coming out of auto stop at a light or stop. Service restraint likely keeps coming on unable to buckle seat belts sometime seat get stuck when moving forward or backwards on driver side shift to park light keeps coming on service parking break is coming in as well for no apparent reason.
Once shifting the car in park the car won’t shut off. It keeps stating “shift to park” the car has already been shifted to park. I have to shift my car over and over again to get it to cut off. Also when driving it keeps stating something about the track system.
The transmission keeps stalling when the auto engine turn off comes on and I try to hit the gas. The transmission end cap had to be replaced. Then the shift to break kept going off when I was in park.
Shift to park message will not go away.
When shifting into park I get a message on my dash to shift into park and the car will not shutoff. I have to jiggle the shifter knob a few times for it to shutoff again and again. It's a real problem and should have a recall on it.
When putting car in park, it continues to show a shift to park error message and will not power down all the way. I have to restart the car and shift in and out of park several times before the car will shut off. Often times when stopping at lights/stop signs the car will shift super hard and jerk into gear when trying to start moving again. This occasionally happens when it should be shifting going up hills as well.
Check engine light keeps coming on for a small evap leak. When putting car in park and turning car off, warning message comes up saying shift to park so I have to wiggle the shifter until the message goes away. Tailgate some times does not close when pushing the tailgate button. Remote start does not always work.
Vehicle automated message stating to shift to park. While the vehicle is in park the message does not go away, trouble exiting the vehicle due to the shift to park problem.
After putting the vehicle in park a error message appears indicating vehicle is not in park and the gear shift must be wiggled back and forth to remove the message.
My car stalled on a four lane highway due to the alternator dying. I was able to pull over but was almost rear ended. I only had 40,000 miles on car at the time. I replaced the alternator with a factory direct from chevy on 3/16/2022. On may 5, 2024, my car again stalled out due to alternator. At that time I was on another busy highway but had enough time to pull over. I had to have someone pick up my children and follow me home. I was terrified it would stall again and I would cause an accident.
When car is shifted into park and then push to start/stop is pressed to turn off car “ shift to park” appears and shift must be wiggled for message to go away. Problem has just started in the last month (may 2024).
