Failure Date: 06/17/2020

Going down the interstate at night, and all of sudden my lights and radio went completely out and then back on. The alternator drop past the 14 v. We have had the battery and the alternator check and they are showing working in good condition. Sometimes the alternator will drop down below the 14 v, and sometimes is stays above the 14 v.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

2013 chevy Traverse w/ 120k miles: while driving 75mph on the freeway the entire car shut off. Everything went black, and I couldn't depress brakes, or turn the steering wheel to move to the shoulder. I panicked as I was in the middle of the desert with my 5 year old. Unacceptable! within minutes the car came back and went into limp mode and I was able to make it to a gas station. Check engine light, traction control service, park assist off, and stability control service all came on. Pulled codes and they were all transmission control module codes. When I disconnected the battery, the car would start just fine but would replicate the problem if I drive it beyond a mile. Was told the tranny needed to be replaced ($3000). I had my uncle, a 25+year experienced mechanic, look at it and said the tranny was fine and believes it is electrical and one of the control modules must not be communicating properly. His exact words were this car is possessed, it is doing the weirdest stuff. It can't be the tranny because if it were it wouldn't just come back to life on its own without repair. There are a plethora of complaints online concerning this exact same issue, yet no recall or investigation whatsoever. We replaced the alternator twice in 4 months as well due to failure. Voltage gauge is constantly jumping from 12v to 16v. The rear controls to the a/c dials are extremely hot to the touch as well. It's very strange. Every mechanic friend that has worked on it says get rid of it because they're the worst cars and they see nothing but problems. Conveniently, it happens just outside of the warranty period. Unfortunately we still owe 15k on it. Shame on gm for ignoring these major issues for the sake of doing major repairs on so many affected vehicles.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/23/2018

Less then a year ago the battery gauge started dipping below 14v to 12v periodically while driving. When getting off the highway one day(batter gague did not dip) and coming to a light on a 2 lane smaller major road the lights all came on check engine, stabilitrak, battery, etc and the car shut down. Fortunately, my husband was able to cruise through the light and somehow everyone was out of his way so he could come to a stop o the side of a road that the speed limit is 50 on. The windows were open couldn't do anything. Tow came out and his jumpers were zapped. Tried again and was able to get into n so could be flat-bedded to the mechanic. The alternator was fried, and fried battery and messed up ac. Replaced alt and battery and other parts that were fried. Less than 6 months later battery started dipping really low and so we had the car checked several times and nothing seemed wrong. Now we're 10 months in and had to replace alt. Again and within a week (today) battery started dipping to 12v again. This is while driving and happens about 20 minutes or so into drive. I drive on major highways and have my children in the car the majority of the time. This is dangerous and seems to be a recurrent problem on tons of these cars. If the car dies again, thankfully the stars aligned and my husband was able to at least pull to the side of the road, we may not be so lucky. Of course, the car is out of warranty now too so how is it that all these people, including us, will be asked to shell out tons of money to fix a common issue that needs to be taken care of so people don't die! this is not simply a maintenance issue.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

"takata recall" I have had this car for a few years and every year I have had to replace the alternator and or battery. This morning I was driving my son to daycare and my son to work the check battery systems light came on. I know from previous experience that the car is about to completely shut down. As expected a few miles up the road the traction light, abs light and other lights appeared on the dashboard. The car shut down completely, the hazard lights will not even turn on. As I stated before this is the third time that I have as this problem in the same amount of years. I have taken it to the dealer to be checked but the are not sure what to look for due to the fact that there is not a recall. This needs to be investigated. These cars are built to hold families. The car shutting down for no reason and without much warning is putting lives at risk. The chevy Traverse is a popular car for families because of the space. There are hundreds of complaints from other families having this same exact problem. Please don't wait until it becomes deadly to take action.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

Driving my 2015 Chevrolet Traverse on an expressway at 65 to 70 mph when suddenly the vehicle started to slow down even when pressing on the accelerator. The speed continued decreasing when we noticed that the radio had also shut down. Fortunately we were able to make our way to the breakdown lane without any mishap. That's when we notice the engine was also completely shut down. We were fortunate that we were able to pull over without causing an accident. We called the dealership and explained the problem and was puzzled that they were not too concerned about the problem. My wife is not concerned about the safety of this vehicle. I have noticed that complaints have been reporting a similar problem. My vehicle is currently at the dealership and they provided me with a loaner in the meantime. I was told that most likely they will not be able to find any problem with the vehicle. This is not much consolation, to us when we will be returning to florida in the near future and wonder whether this problem will occur again when we are on expressways with five to six lanes, all going 70 mph or more and with little room to get out of the way to safety. Looking at other similar issues, what is mentioned as the problem could be the switch, the battery or the alternator, or wiring to all these components. I cannot believe that this issue cannot be diagnosed and remedied immediately before someone gets hurt.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Major saftey risk: my Traverse was well maintained was often filled with soccer kids. The safety failure could have been deadly! while driving, the auto began displaying the following messages in rapid succession: battery saver active, service battery charging system, service traction control, service stabilitrak. I parked the car to drop of my kids, the car would not start again. After a jump, I headed for the dealer which was 4 miles away. Operations appeared ok initially. On the expressway, the car electronics went out. Not just radio and a/c, but all electrical. I realized that the engine was no longer running while in rush hour traffice on a chicago expressway. No hazards, no way to lower windows, I was extremely lucky to find a gap in the traffic to get to the side of the road and park. From the shoulder of the expressway, cars continued to fly past me at high speed. This was absolutely chaotic and dangerous. I waited for aaa to arrive. Aaa was forced to tow (my Traverse is front wheel drive) rather than flatbed because without electricity we the car was stuck in park. At the chevy dealer, they quickly read the error codes and presented me with a $1,400 estimate to replace the alternator. Sharing my frustration and pointing out that this type of catastrophic failure was well beyond any reasonable expectation of a presumably safe vehicle, they found a way to lower the cost to $607. (I do respect and appreciate the service department at the dealership. ) this clearly should be a recall issue and chevy should correct these issues on their dime. I bought the Traverse with the expecatation of safety and reliability. I am now very skeptical and am hessitant to fill this 8 seater with kids the way I used too. Many others have experienced similar failures. This is a potential mortal danger to drivers, passengers and other innocent bystanders!.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

The battery failed to recharge, the vehicle completely shut down (electrically speaking). My wife and 2 kids were stuck in a car with no ac, no ability to recharge her cell phone to call for help, on a hot 100f day. Thankfully, she was able to call a tow truck. After 2 days in the shop at ron baker chevy in san diego, it was discovered that the alternator was faulty. Both the alternator and the battery were replaced.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

While driving my children to school a warning light came on to check power charging system but then it went off. A few minutes later my air conditioning shut off and the power saving mode light came on followed a few minutes by the battery warning light. Later that evening I had my husband follow me to a nearby auto shop to have the car checked out. The air would not even come on and I drove less than 2 miles to the shop. Near the auto shop after having the car checked out and told to replace the battery I attempted to drive home with the intent to return the next day since it was closing time and no work could be done. The car experienced a complete power failure at a major intersection. The alternator had failed on a car less than 3 years old and under 50,000 miles. I have done research and this is a fairly common issue with the 2012 Traverse and is not considered a flaw or cause for concern or recall. Does someone need to die before this problem is addressed?.
