Body Problems of Chevrolet Traverse - part 1

The antenna cover (shark fin) on the roof of the vehicle detached while driving and flew off. Looking at the piece that flew off, the clips that are made to clip in and keep it attached to the roof broke off somehow and seemed to be very weak where some were still attached. The safety of other vehicles are put at risk by it being unexpected flying debris and could potentially hit a vehicle/motorcycle following behind or debris is the roadway. My dealer specifically has not seen many, but when researching online, it’s is a very common issue with the 2024 and 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. My vehicle was brought to my dealership and a person from the body shop will attempt to attach it back for a temporary fix until the issue can be resolved and not have to pay hundreds of dollars for something that the vehicle owner had no control over breaking. There was no warning of this attachment breaking off, nor should it be something that a vehicle owner should have to worry about replacing six months in of purchasing a brand new vehicle.

When driving early in the morning to drop off my kids to school, we are driving on a highway, crossing a bridge, no cars on either side, no houses either, when all of a sudden the rear left window has a loud pop, and then shatters completely. This was an exploding window out of no where, with nobody around and no other cars near by to cause this accident. The glass fell all over my body and I could not move until the vehicle was safely pulled over. This was concerning because my 1 year old was sitting next to me and the glass could have fell onto them if they were sitting right next to the window just like I was, and that was a safety concern. I called the dealership to let them know what happened right before my eyes and they said there was nothing they could do for an explosive window. I asked if there was issues with this happening to other people with an 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, and provided my VIN, they said no recalls so again, nothing they could do. I mention maybe a default in defroster or manufacturing issue of installation problem, and they just said no over the phone. They did mention they had another lady who came in with the same problem, a window shattering for no reason while driving, but that “things like that happen normally”. Despite having other people with the similar issue, I was given the cold shoulder with no resolution.

While driving with the front windows all the way up and the back windows all the way down at 60mph or higher the door panels vibrate real bad like they want pop off from the frame of the car, which is unacceptable. You should be able to drive with windows how you want to in you vehicle without your door vibrating like they want to pop off.

The car had a faulty door that would stick intermittently since the day we purchased it (March 10, 2025) and wouldn't open unless forced. We reported the issue on March 23rd to our sales rep (jorge) and didn't act upon it until two months later when it wouldn't open at all. Upon bringing it into the shop on may 27th it was determined that there was a faulty latch. They also discovered that the brake light was on and the car was in need of multiple components - master cylinder, the adapter and the reservoir. We have had a rental car since 5/27/25 and yet to receive our car back.

Weld on exhaust bracket broke.

I was driving along the highway way at 60-65 mph when suddenly service traction control came on and vehicle started jerking and slowing down. As I tried to accelerate it continued to jerk and then just shut off completely. I hit the guard rail/ jersey wall on the drivers side because I had no control of the vehicle due to the vehicle shutting down. Upon taking it to the dealer after getting it home they stated it could be the junction box which is a known issue but they don’t see anything wrong with it and can’t duplicate the problem. I’ve contacted various mechanics and get that it’s an electrical issue that Chevrolet is aware of but refuses to place a recall for it. I could have gotten seriously injured if not killed by this problem and safety issue.

Had my Traverse for two years, second owner. When I received the car, it had to immediately go into the shop as they couldn’t figure out why all sorts of dash lights where coming on. My car was at the dealership for three weeks and ultimately they replaced the chip, stating that was the issue. Two months down the road, I get the shift to park error message starting. Fast forward to 4 months ago when the stability error message starts to intermittently come on and off. 30 days ago I got the first of the service charging system message and the battery saver mode. My car shut itself down while I was doing 55 miles per hour on a back country road. Every lthing locked up and I had to force a turn to get out of traffic. It was determined my battery was good but alternator was bad. Checked fuses just to be safe all were good. Replaced the alternator with a new one. As of today, I am not able to drive my vehicle because of this same issue. This time I went ahead and replaced the battery and nothing has changed. They are saying it’s my alternator again. How is this possible that all of us 2018 Traverse drivers are experiencing the exact same malfunctions in order and now we have to repeatedly replace the alternator? there is no way 1000s more of Traverse owners are all buying “bad” alternators. Something is going on with this and these vehicles are not safe to drive. I can’t even trade mine in because my credit is shot. I pay way too much for this car to not be able to reliably and safely transport my kids to and from school.

2020 Traverse was at chevy dealership for state inspection & emissions test, maintenance service- oil & filter change, rotate tires, check all systems, update system & computer, flush & fill all fluids in car. Chevy certified technician preformed vehicle health inspection, multi point inspection . Car was not picking up acceleration will on a 351 mile trip alone, after stopping I notice the car hood was not on correctly when opened the oil cap was not in place but was on molding, oil had been pouring out leaving engine with no oil, the technician had not replaced cap during service and had no replaced brake fluid, antifreeze coolant, washer fluid and transmission fluid. He had force closed the hood, which could have opened at any time while driving, there was oil pouring from vehicle causes hazardous driving for myself and everyone else on highway. Car has onstar coverage as well as chevy safe driver function’s, and alerts on all systems all fluid levels, tire pressure, temperature ext. Non of these alerts showed or alerted me putting my safety and the safety of others on the roads in danger. The technician in fact disarmed these systems and alerts when servicing my vehicle. Ciocca Chevrolet dealership in quakertown PA, caused permanent damage to the engine and power train system, as well as putting myself and others in serious danger. The car was towed by onstar roadside assist back to dealership where they tried to down play the severity of the damage . I refused to take back the car due to it not being drivable or safe. The service manager agreed to buy out my loan and the car is on lot for sale with tag stating ‘sold as is , no warranty” . Due to the computer system being compromised there is no data showing the service or showing the car being in distress , this issue needs to be know as driving this vehicle with out knowledge of engine damage caused from dealership failure to add all fluids during service puts driver, passenger’s and all others in danger.

3rd row headrest will not go down when straps are pulled to put the seat down. This prevents the 3rd row from being able to be put down. Summit white paint chipping/peeling within 2 weeks of ownership. Normal driving, no gravel. Under 1,000 miles.

When it rain, water is getting into my car from somewhere. It has knocked out my dashboard and my radio no longer works. The water gets in to the front part of the car and end up in my front middle console. No body can tell where the leak is coming from nor explain how it get in the middle of the cup holder and flooding my floor and seat. Nothing is showing on my dashboard or the miles displayed. I need help to stop this defect.

The tail light is collecting moisture out of nowhere. Went to the dealer to get the item looked at, was told that it was not covered under the warranty. The price to repair will be almost 1300 to replace, this is crazy. Gm needs to do something about this. The moisture in the light is a potential for all the electrical wires to burnout.

March 30, 2022 I was driving on a highway with no other vehicles nearby and I heard a sudden loud pop. At first I thought is was a tire but no pressure changes on the screen. Few minutes later I heard a plinking noise and realized it was above my head and my sunroof had shattered. Luckily my visor was pulled across so I didn't have glass raining on my head while driving. Brought it into my dealership who sent me to a auto body glass division. The glass was on back order for 10 days and repaired on 4/12/22. I paid my $500 deductible through my car insurance. My vehicle has a front sunroof and a back moonroof that does not open. On may 15, 2023 I was driving on a country road and again there was a sudden pop. Again thought it was a tire but there was a gravel truck about 5 cars ahead of me but my sister was in the front passenger seat and did not see a rock or gravel. Rear moonroof had 2 small cracks on top but luckily again my visor was closed. We had a 30 min ride home so we tried to wrap plastic wrap around and over it but the wind got underneath so the hardware store told us to duct tape it and it worked well for about a week until the roof completely caved in on may 24 th. I called my dealership and the claim was filed for replacement with same glass company but now the part is on back order until mid July!!! I paid $300 for my car insurance and my dealership is keeping it and I traded it in for a new 2023 chevy Traverse which I paid $19,000 for and hoping the glass will not do this again on my new car. Grateful nobody was hurt but I feel this a safety problem that needs to be reported.

Air bag on right side is off, vehicle front dash has the air bag needs to be serviced. This started as of the 1st month of purchased, took to dealership and they could not duplicated the problem. The air bag would go off and off from time to time, but by the time I had my appointment at the dealership it would go back on. Now I am out of warranty and the light is always red that the air bag on the right side is off. I noticed that when we would close the back of the vehicle after placing groceries the light would go off and when closing again it would go off. Now it is always on indicating that the right air bag is not on.

We have major paint chipping and peeling issues, the gear selector will not recognize park at times and we have had the catalytic converter replaced in the 2. 5 years of owning (we are the only owners).

Engin burning oil. Also says cat under performance bay 1 I had a mechanic fir it twice due to misfire on 2 cylinders. Lift gate electrical only works sometimes and others it goes up the starts to close half way up. Iv been hit in the head a few times. Passenger window won't roll up or down from driver side. All issues I was informed were due to faulty manufacturing issues.

Driving east in the far left lane when another vehicle, Ford taurus, entered the lane causing a head on collision. I was traveling within the speed limits. I have injuries and reinjured parts of my body. October 26 2020.

Clio that holds the second seat sunroof shade closed broke off.

Dual sunroof/moonroof defect with a leak to the headliner.

Cajun red paint color has defect. Paint began showing white specks where paint is chipping off after only having vehicle for 3 months. Continues to get worse, mostly on hood of Traverse but also on sides.

My vehicle was off, parked and locked. My car was on a somewhat flat surface and rolled into a tree. The same day I was able to drive my car approximately 3 miles from my home, park for approximately 4 hours and return home without keys. I have a police report and photos of the damage of my vehicle.

Sunroof developed a massive leak. The vehicle did not leak while sitting only while in motion. The leak was at the forward part of the sunroof. The leak soak the headliner, overhead console controls and ran into the center stack of instruments. Diagnosed by sandy sansing Chevrolet, pensacola, FL to be a bent sunroof frame. Have been in their repair facility since oct 2019 with no parts available or repair in sight. Contacted gm and was not given a remedy.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the sunroof exploded causing the glass to explode outward. The vehicle was taken to griffin Chevrolet 11100 w metro auto mall, milwaukee, WI 53224 (414) 882-8479 where they clean the remaining glass and informed the contact it was due to the weather change. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 169,538. Ak.

The edge of the secondary hood latch hand release lever is very sharp. I cut my finger trying to find the leaver to open the hood. This part should have smooth edges to prevent injury.

The rear support for lift of door failed- vehicle was stationary the driver side windshield wiper failed - vehicle was in motion on highway a/c blows freon through vents- stationary, in motion- has been in shop 3 times condenser, a/c lines have been replaced- still does not hold freon for long.

Car wreck damage impact by other driver hit head front of vehicle, caused drivers and passenger side doors to not open, airbags did not deploy!.

All 4 doors have become miss aligned 2 weeks after purchasing, Traverse is a new car not preowned. There's a rubbing noise that comes from all doors while driving especially when car turns left or right at an angle. As days pass the rubbing noise from the doors has increased and can be heard while making a stop and when driving straight.

I was slowly backing out of my garage when all of a sudden my 2015 Traverse accelerated to 40-50 miles per hour to my horror. I felt like I was in the indy 500. The car backed into a tree in my front yard, then at the same high speed lifted off the ground and raced forward and crashed into 2 parked cars in my back yard. Had the 2 parked cars not stopped me my neighbors feel I would have gone into the lake in my back yard. My air bag did not go off, yet the one in the empty parked car did go off. All 3 vehicles were a total loss.

I was backing out of my garage when all of a sudden the car started going about 50mph and hit a tree in my yard, then the front end lifted off the ground and the car raced forward and crashed into my friend's car. They both hit my pickup truck also. All 3 vehicles are a total loss. From the neighbors who observed this, it's a miracle I wasn't badly injured. Also I have a tear in my achilles tendon on right foot so in no way could I have mashed on accelerator.

Over two dozen areas on the powder coated sub frame and suspension components have rusty weld beads with flaking paint. I took the vehicle in for inspection and filed a claim with Chevrolet. Chevrolet said the rust is "operating as designed" and no repair would be completed. The areas are increasing to rust and I believe this may lead to a catastrophic failure of the frame and steering components.

I opened my power lift gate using my key fab. After putting items in the back, I pushed the close button located on the lift gate. I thought I had left my keys laying inside with the items I had just placed in the back of the vehicle. Knowing that the sensors would read that my arm would block the door from closing, I could retrieve my keys. As it continued to close, I realized that it was not recognizing my arm. As I tried to pull my arm away from the door, it caught my thumb and crushed it. It remained closed in the back hatch until help arrived to open it with the keys. I went to my dr and received xrays. I fractured my thumb and am currently receiving physical therapy treatment. I am constantly in pain. When I contacted general motors, I was brushed off.

Dashboard pad stuffing came apart from windshield. Repaired and now this is third time it's replaced. I was not aware that extended warrenty doesn't pay for it. The first repair was warrenty . Repair defective 3rd time. Everytime it comes out they have to charge to remove dash board and replace. Safety hazard windshield loosen, can crack, leak, annoying rattle. Contact GMC to put recall safety in. Software update if you call dealer no recall was issued as required. Failed again. Pandemic keeps people from driving so didn't know problem and now warrenty up . . 10,000 miles on 2018. Jan 2021 3 years. Repaired third time now. Cost of approx 500. 00. Dealer stated recall on software and GMC issued it. Just said no recall issued aware of. This is dangerous to driver. Windshield loosen, can crack, shatter easier on impact, annoying rattle, and cost for each repaired new dashboard required. 395. 00 and tax and labor. Total 500. 00.

The metal tracks for the rear captain passenger seats has rusted badly and no longer locks in!! when I apply brakes, the seats slide all the way up to our front seats. It also appears that several other metal interior surfaces has rusted also. These include the door hinges, inside the seatbelts and all the metal frame of the rear seats. Dyer Chevrolet in vero beach, FL has the vehicle today for the first attempt at giving us a safe vehicle. This condition was first reported to our dealer on 8-20-18, and we were just called back in this week and were told that some parts came in but my service tech could not tell me what parts or what they intended to do.

Main sunroof (the one that tilts and opens) shattered. It was closed at the time, all windows were closed, driving straight down a good, smooth highway at 74 mph, in good weather.
