36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

One year ago the check engine light came on. Diagnosis stated evap system leak. Replaced a bad purge valve. Now almost a year later the engine light comes back on car also started struggling shifting and shift to park would come on when car was already in park. Diagnosis states a large leak in evap system, smoke test determined leak was coming from the fuel canister. Canister was replaced and within two trips engine light came back on and car continues to struggle shifting as well as having a rough idle. Another diagnostic test reported bad fuel sensor. 2019 Traverse seems to have a lot of evap system issues and have been told as well as read that this is a trending issue with this vehicle. With each diagnosis report it states it would fail fuel omission.

37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

I have been experiencing an intermittent issue where the vehicle displays a “shift to park” message, even though the gear shift lever is clearly in the park position. When this happens, the vehicle will not fully shut off, and I have to repeatedly move the shifter back and forth or restart the vehicle to clear the message. This issue began around January 2024, and it has become more frequent over time. I understand that this is a known defect in gm vehicles, and that gm issued technical service bulletin #19-na-206 to address it. According to the TSB and owner reports, this problem is caused by a faulty park switch or microswitch inside the shifter assembly, and the solution involves installing a jumper harness and/or replacing the shift control assembly. This is both a functional and safety concern, as the vehicle may not recognize it's in park and could potentially result in a failure to turn off or secure properly. I’m requesting that general motors or an authorized dealer perform the recommended repair per TSB #19-na-206 at no cost, as this is a widely reported manufacturing defect. Please advise how this issue can be resolved as soon as possible. I am attempting at uploading a photo and a video. The system does not allow videos and it is rejecting the photo.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/28/2023

I currently own a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse with 63k miles the had a cracked catalytic converter. The catalytic converter was replaced but the dealer also charged me for a flex pipe replacement which they said was broken too. This is a known issue as per gm's own bulletin #pip5681, yet they refused to cover the repair in it's entirety. Gm is entirely covering this issue in 2018-2021 chevy Traverse vehicles, but they are refusing to cover the costs of the flex pipe replacement for approximately $600.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/25/2023

The purge valve is ticking for the past two weeks dealership informed me yesterday that it is working as designed and no codes were noted by technician. Ticking noises ( which are very annoying) were not present when vehicle was bought about 3 months ago . The service rep informed me that although purge valve issues have been noted and taken care of by other gm models. , the Traverse is not part of any recall at the moment.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/09/2023

I have a 2016 chevy Traverse. The “traction control off” light has been on for about 2 months now, along with the service stabilitrak light, and abs light. When driving it seems is if though my abs is kicking in when it should not be. Since those lights have been on, the left passenger brakes seem to also be affected. Anytime I first begin driving until I hit about 30mph, or anytime I press the brakes, it feels like my brakes are locking up…or a better way to describe it is when driving in the snow and your abs kicks in and you can feel it in your brake pedal like the brakes are locked up, but there is no snow. Recently there were two times when I was coming to a stop light and nearly hit the stopped car in front of me because my brakes locked up and the pedal wouldn’t go down. Now, almost a week ago when trying to leave, my car will not start at all. The battery is new and the lights all work. The power of the car turns on but it doesn’t turn over to start or if it does it struggles to stay started and then dies right away. I have seen tons and tons of other videos or reviews of other Traverse owners complaining of the same problem ranging from 2014-2017 Traverse. Many people take theirs to a dealership and even they can’t figure out the problem or they say it’s a glitch in the system. There are far too many other chevy Traverse vehicles having the same issue. The only difference with theirs is the lights come on every so often. Mine don’t turn off, they are always on. This is extremely dangerous, much more dangerous than the air bag recall. These vehicles should be recalled immediately before something very serious happens. I have been without a vehicle now for a week while I’ve had to miss work and my kids have had to miss school. I have had the problem checked by a professional mechanic but couldn’t figure it out either. No one else has looked at it as it is dead so I can’t take it anywhere. It is available upon request for inspection.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

Recall for emissions evap leak repaired less than a year ago after engine light illuminated. Had to be taken in two separate times to be fixed. Engine light illuminated again a week ago 10/1/23, when scanned by mechanic it is showing the same emissions evap leak. The vehicle is sputtering when trying to start and doesn’t feel safe when driving. Dealership said they’re unable to even look and diagnose for another week after knowing it’s the same recall.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

The vehicle unexpectedly loses propulsion and or mechanical park, there is increased risk of crash or roll-away.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

1. Orange check engine light will not go off on my dash, when scanned by the mechanic it is showing an emissions evap leak. 2. I'm having problem when I turn my Traverse off it beeps at me and I get a message that says shift to park. I wiggle the gear shift until it stops. This has been going on for quite a while now.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 09/08/2023

I went to shell and got gas on September 7th and September 8th when I started. My Traverse it started shaking like it was cold then the check engine light came on I went to autozone it read a p0496 code forevap system flow during non purge.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 08/02/2023

So since 8/02/23 when the vehicle had 54,000 miles it began to give electrical problems. I bought the car 01/16/23 it had only 26,000 miles. The service battery charging system light and battery saver mode went on and also the reduced steering light which began to shut the car down I immediately pulled over. Took it to gm dealer they tested battery was dead then charged it checked alternator it failed so they replaced alternator. 7 days later 8/10/23 the car is still running rough idle. Had savi code p0496 evap flow during non purge replaced purge solenoid. The car still the engine slightly was not 100 percent fixed I told them every time it wasn't good. 02/12/24 I took back to dealer engine running rough and every time I put gas it was hesitant the transmission I am assuming check engine light was on code p0496 the gm dealer diagnosised and replaced canister purge solenoid. So 2/28/24 battery saver mode light came on andservice battery charging vehicle stalled out checked alternator failed replaced alternator. 6/25/24 took to another gm dealer and the diagnosised it check engine light was on and told them my car wasn't starting well after I filled my gas and rough engine. Told me to come back 7/03/24 to do evap canister check engine light was on they found evap leak from from evap canister charged me 508 dollars. So I took vehicle from dealer towards hone filled up gas car would not start problem was not fixed called dealer immediately manager said get here before they close I did and manager left but on service guy got the master mechanic to look at it he said it's purge valve the next day they were closed due to 4th of July so was told to take back on 7/5/24 to replace purge solenoid. The gas issue was fixed but now the transmission is worse when I accelerate it stutters bad I been telling both dealers was told they can't look at vehicle unless check engine light was on so 3 faulty purge valves 2 alternators replaced and car stutters worse shift to park light.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/30/2023

While coming to a stop or a complete stop vehicle shuts off. While driving it looses power wanting to shut off.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/27/2023

2016 chevy Traverse fuel system problem while at an idle truck shuts off, also the truck drags while trying to accelerate. I have made a complaint before but haven't heard anything yet.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

Vehicle all of a sudden started sound loud when accelerating on a trip home. Vehicle is 58k miles. Upon investigation, the vehicle was loud when starting as well. Mechanic determined front pipe under driver side had rusted and broken. Was told there is no recall, not covered under purchased extended warranty - $600 to repair. This should not happen on a vehicle this age. There are similar complaints about the same issue for the 2020 model.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

According to general motors, the new gm special coverage (n222385510) is only applicable the 2021 model year of the chevy Traverse. The condition described includes the separation of the front mounting bracket from the front exhaust pipe. This happened to prior year models and are covered under a recall too. All years I searched as well as my mechanic. My vehicle is a 2020 and the same issue is present but has not been covered under a recall.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

I had just got gas and the vehicle took longer than usual to start/turn over. I was leaving the store and sitting at the stop sign that is on a small incline. When I proceeded to go, my truck shook a few times, cut off, and I had no control of the vehicle. The brake pedal would not push down and my vehicle began rolling backwards. There was a car behind me that started honking his horn because I was going to run into him. I pushed the start/turn off ignition button and tried the brakes again and it worked. I had to sit there for about 5 minutes to get myself together because I was terrified to take off again. About a week later I was pulling out from my subdivision and the truck started alarming to service the stabilitrak as I was pulling out. At the moment, the steering wheel became almost impossible to turn and the car didn't want to go! I had several cars coming my way and my vehicle was in the middle of the road. Thank goodness the cars slowed down and my vehicle decided to start working. About a month later it started sounding like a go-kart. I had the vehicle checked out by a mechanic and I was told I needed a new battery and my exhaust pipe had a hole. I bought the battery and the $1200 pipe and had it installed. Now a different exhaust pipe has a hole and the part is on back order because apparently this is a frequent reccuring issue but no recall. I never feel safe driving my truck and it is a 2018 and not yet at 100,000 miles, that is pretty sad! the vehicle is available for inspection.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/22/2023

Car has many issues: jerks shift to park error when it is parked causing car to have lights on for hours brake error fuel issue traction error computer failure at times I got the car used was not fixed when I received it needs recalls I have kids you people expect me to pay for your faulty equipment please make this right if I het into an accident it's because of your brand.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/07/2023

I was parking in front of a restaurant- my foot was on the brake and as I came to a stop the engine revved up and the car surged forwarded about 5 feet - the car pushed a pole and blew out the front door and the door frame- all this time my foot was on the brake. If someone was walking in to the restaurant they surly would have been killed. No warning lamps or lights-I have not taken it to the dealer yet the body shop still has it. There was no police report the accident was on private property. If the dealer gives me the runaround I'll get rid of this car.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/27/2023

On multiple occasions the vehicle slowed to a stop but engine was still running. This happened once on the interstate at the speed limit. I got warning that power brakes and steering were not working. Other times the car shudders and stops. I then have to turn engine off and restart. I then take to dealer and they check with a computer and can find nothing wrong. I also had “shift to park”. Message and was unable to turn off engine. $300ish to get this fixed. The dealer said common in that vehicle. I want to make clear that this shuddering and limp mode problems have happened at least five times. The date above is the most recent.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/10/2023

Cracked exhaust & bracket back in 2023 causing a loud rattling noise. Now catalytic converter is cracked & gasket leak. Dealer does have notes that it was cracked & they noticed it in 2023 at 46k miles & that converter has now cracked causing engine light to turn on. Car does not speed up properly & gm only wants to cover 30 percent of cost.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 01/02/2023

Catalytic converter issues and flex pipes, needing replaced due to weak welding and lack of structure is dangerous releasing carbon monoxide and gas in the car while driving with my children.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

3 major issues—1. The driver side seatbelt does not latch any more. This started happening 11/1/2022. 2. The "shift to park" message continues to appear while the car is in park. The vehicle at times will not shut off due to the message even thought it's actually in park. This has been happening for over a year without a fix and now we're over our 3 year warranty. 3. The car has 45 miles on it before it needed to refuel, however, it stalled and completed shut off in the middle of traffic causing a jam behind us! we had one of our toddlers in the car too which could have ended much worse. The car was towed to chevy ($160 bill for us), and chevy said it stalled and turned off because the fuel was empty even though it the dashboard said 45 miles on it.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 10/25/2022

On our 2019 chevy Traverse, the check engine light came on and off several times over the last couple of weeks. After filling up with gas, it would often take 4 to 5 times to get the engine to start as it would keep stalling out after starting. Additionally, on two separate occasions the car stalled out unexpectedly - once while turning onto a road out of a parking lot that almost caused us to get hit, and a second time while in a round-a-bout. The car was checked by a chevy dealer and it was found that there was a bad purge valve creating this issue. This had previously been recalled on earlier model year Traverses, but not for 2019. It appears this is still an issue for this model year and should be addressed.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 07/24/2022

4021890 fuel pump- is available for inspection upon request date occurred: (07/25/22) 4050420 exhaust front pipe- is available for inspection upon request date occurred: (09/15/22) 4021890 occurring- while driving on the expressway going +70mph vehicle message came on, without any warning stating the following: "service parking brake, drive assist in active and reducing engine power". Vehicle lost all power steering control, and the engine was "revving" as if the vehicle was placed in neutral while trying to drive. Not only was my safety placed at risk during this occurrence, but that of my 5year old daughters as well who was traveling with me, when the power steering was inoperable at +70mph. This could have turned into a very ugly accident at the expense of the manufacturer. Dealership was able to "reproduce/confirm" issue. The vehicle was towed to the purchasing dealership where it was inspected by a dealer service tech and deemed necessary to replace. During 4050420- vehicle started making a "fluttering" noise from the front right side of the vehicle while vehicle was placed in "p" and idling. The vehicle was taken in for a dealer inspection, which found a leak in the neck weld of my front exhaust pipe. The vehicle did not display any warning lamps or messages to indicate there was an issue. Dealership was able to "reproduce/confirm" issue.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 06/12/2022

On June 12, 2022, after stopping for gas, my car did not want to start back up. I put my foot on the brake and pushed the start/stop button, but the engine struggled to come on. It did a similar thing a week before, but on that time when I pushed the button to start the car, all of my lights came on and my radio, but my air conditioner delayed in coming on. When I put the car in drive to go, nothing happened and I realized the engine never started. I pushed the start/stop button again and everything shut off and then back on and I was able to drive. For almost a year now, I have had issues with the auto stop feature when I'm at a stop light/sign. When I try to take off again, it delays on letting me move. This is also when my car will jerk or jolt as I start to drive. I took it to the dealership to look at the problem and was told there may be something with the fuel system. All they did was flush the system, but the problem didn't stop. I am seeing reports online of similar things happening to other 2019 Traverse owners. This concerns me because what happens when my car decides not to start again and I'm in a busy area? what happens when my family is with me and it doesn't want to go or it shuts off at a stop sign or light and we're in crash? I am making an appointment with another dealership, but with how many other drivers seem to be having problems, this seems to be a manufacturer issue and needs to be taken care of by them.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/27/2022

The driver's side mirror is cracked, in addition to the catalytic converters - bank 1 and 2, they sold me this car like this and reset the engine light.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

Service traction control, traction control off/on/off, service all wheel drive display on dash. Check engine light on at times, when starting vehicle service all wheel drive displays immediately. Codes come up as fuel pressure high, fuel pressure low, no communication with bcm. Driving from a stop the engine has to idle high to switch gears, hard shift when it does. Goes into limp mode sometimes while driving. Been to dealership, can not duplicate problems. But they see display info and no current code, do have stored code of bcm lost communication.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 05/15/2022

2019 Chevrolet Traverse having "shift to park" error when shifted into park and it will not turn off. I am not able to shut down my vehicle occurs, which is at random but with more frequency lately. I often have to turn car on, put into reverse and repeat the process, or jiggle the gear shifter to get it to turn off. I have read this is a common issue and gm is being sued in a class action lawsuit because of it. My dealership isn't acknowledging it and wants me to pay to have it completely replaced. I have also read it gets worse in most cases and in some cases causes the vehicle to shift into gear accidentally or drains the battery completely because it thinks the car is in drive and stays on. Possibly related, the vehicle is starting to "buck" when in slow acceleration/shifting automatic gears.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

I’ve told penland automotive llc car dealer joey my vehicle cuts off while I’m driving me & my kids have been in 8 near death experience & I’ve been in 6 by myself I went to trade it in because that’s not safe & I’ve done plenty of work on it I’ve told him the service stabiltack keeps shutting it off & im scared he says it’s nothing he can do about it & I’ve only had this vehicle a year it started before the 1 year anniversary on the truck!! him not doing nothing is not ok!! I thought it needed a tune up but I really didn’t so I paid out that for nothing! I’ve also went to green light Chevrolet in laurens they said it was a corrosion fuse box but a fuse box no lights of nothing would be working & I paid out $135 just for them to look at it & tell me that I told them what it was saying & they said the fuse box negative I went on youtube & asked other mechanics they said it’s a part that needs to be cleaned or it will catch fire they would do it but they can’t because im making payments & it’s stuff that chevy would have to do! I’m trying to get help some where before this truck get me or me & my kids killed.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

I have a 2018 chevy Traverse that has been running strange lately. The engine seems to run rough hesitating and stalls. Today 4/4/2022 my check engine light came on with code p0496. I turned off engine and attempted to start again. It made a horrible noise like it was struggling to start and the engine revel’s up like the gas pedal was stuck out it wasn’t. I immediately turned car off because it sounded like it was going to explode. I looked it up and seems that 2015-2017 chevy Traverse has a recall for evaporative emissions purge valve replacement but my VIN doesn’t show it. My car was manufactured in 2017. Will this qualify to be fixed under recall? it’s a cheap part and appears to be a simple fix,.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

The vehicle has a design flaw which causes a bracket which connects the 2 pipes which connect to the catalytic converter to fail. Once the bracket has failed, the rear catalytic converter is allowed to vibrate more than designed, adding extra stress to the catalytic converter. Over time, this additional stress causes the catalytic converter to fail, releasing harmful gases directly from the engine exhaust manifold with carbon monoxide and other harmful gases into the air and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. This is a know issue that gm has recalled on the 2019 (recall n212356540) and 2021 (recall n222385510) model year Traverse. Other years may have also been recalled that I am not aware of. For some reason, gm has neglected to take ownership of this issue on the 2018 Traverse which shares the same design as both the 2019 and 2021 model years. I have gone to the dealership and contact Chevrolet's customer service multiple times and they refuse to reimburse me for the cost of the necessary repairs. I have already purchased the broken and necessary, ancillary components and repaired the vehicle myself because I did not want to pay the dealership over $2000 in labor which they quoted me.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

Transmission shifting erratic. Rpm is high and shifting is delayed. Delay in acceleration when car is in movement. Parking gear sensor is not working. Shows on dash to put car in park. When car is already in park.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

I purchased this vehicle in June, 2021 and had noticed that it sometimes lurched forward a few feet when I applied the brakes. I made an appointment to have the vehicle’s brakes checked. While merging onto 12th street in rochester, mn at less than 15 mph, I had to apply brakes suddenly to avoid stopped car in front of me. The brakes worked but the car also accelerated and smashed into the stopped car in front of us, leaving a dent in that car’s rear fender, smashing our headlight shield, and making it difficult for our driver side door to open because the fender and door had to space between them. There were 6 similar complaints about 2017 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles at carcomplaints. Com, where I also posted. I called the national phone line for general motors because I was concerned about safety. Gm sent an investigator to my home to take photos and electronic codes. They set up a claim for me, although I was only looking for a potential safety recall. Weeks later, they contacted me to say my claim was denied. When I asked for more details, they told me the engineers had concluded that I stepped on the gas rather than the brake. This didn’t make sense to me since both the brake and the accelerator had engaged. The gas pedal is recessed far closer to the floor than the brake pedal. While it is possible that my boot could have pressed on each of them at the same time since I reacted quickly, it's unlikely. I also wonder if the cruise control had engaged since, on this vehicle, it doesn't turn off and require you to turn it on again when you stop the engine and restart it. I requested the engineering data, which they sent me and I kept.
