Ignition Problems of Chevrolet Venture

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Venture. The contact lost her key to the vehicle and attempted to use the pass key to move the vehicle. The vehicle started, but then shut off. She made three attempts to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The contact found the original key and attempted to start the vehicle. The wheel would not move and she was unable to start the vehicle. She inserted the key and heard a beeping sound, which indicated that the battery was functioning. She called several dealers and mechanics, who stated that they could not assist with the issue. The current and failure mileages were 97,585.

Travelling ~40 mph, applied brake, engine stalled. Restarted immediately. Proceeded one quarter mile, applied brake to turn right, engine stalled, restarted immediately. Repeated multiple times. Took to independent mechanic; could reproduce problem but not locate source. Took to dealer: unable to reproduce problem.

My wife and I own a 2002 Chevrolet Venture van. On at least 5 occasions in the 16 months we have owned it, it has unexpectedly stalled while driving, most recently in an intersection. The dealer (h&h Chevrolet) has been of no help as they cannot find anything wrong. I see that there have been at least 6 identical complaints lodged with your office for this very problem (see complaint nos. 10001257, 10001548, 10001584, 10002244, 10004168, 10014614), so it is not unique to my vehicle. Clearly it is a safety issue, particularly when it happens in an intersection (like it did for us) or on the highway as in some of the other complaints. Please let me know if the manufacturer has found a solution to this problem. Thanks!.

The key was in the ignition when the sliding door closed and locked all the doors. Dealer notified.
