36 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

Service airbag warning displayed following moving the passenger seat forward while car was parked. Based on fact that car was not moving when notification came on, seems to be the same issue that hundreds of gen 1 Volt owners have had, many of them within the last 3 months, and gm is ignoring the issue instead of recalling the part.

37 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The service airbag keeps coming on and off. With any movement in the passenger seat, the light comes on and off. I already had car inspected and I still have the same issue.

38 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2019

service airbag appears on display when front passenger steps out of vehicle. When passenger steps back in vehicle and fastens seatbelt airbag off displayed on overhead display indicating airbag would not work in the event of a crash for passenger. Message usually disappears after cycling power on vehicle. Also with lightweight items on seat (10 lbs or so) message also appears and does not automatically remove without cycling power.

39 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2019

Passenger sensor fails to turn on when an occupant of normal size is in the passenger seat, precluding air bag deployment. This is a very common issue with 2013 models.

40 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2019

Repeats constantly. . . "service airbag". Appears to stop for somewhat variable lengths of time with passenger in front seat. Seems to be related to presence sensor.

41 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Passenger occupancy sensor malfunction. Passenger airbag turns off intermitently even while occupied by an adult. I have not been to dealership, but understand it is a $1000 repair. This is also happening in a 2012 Volt that I own.

42 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2019

The front passenger air bag frequently signals that service is required. Occupied, unoccupied, bag of groceries, or occupied when occupant shifts around a little. Similar reports indicate that service requires expensive calibration with little confidence in a lasting corrective outcome. Can be stationary at beginning of trip, during trip while moving - no obvious correlation. Happens more and more frequently, beginning at least a year ago.

43 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Passenger airbag is turned off, despite an occupant in the passenger seat. Happens at all times, irregardless if vehicle is stationary or in motion.

44 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

(chevy Volt 2013) a warning message "service airbags" intermittently shows. The car has not been involved in accidents. It appears to be a very common issues among chevy Volt owners (including 2 people in my family who own the same car model) the warning shows while driving and disappears after a few seconds.

45 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2019

Service airbag warning when passenger seat unoccupied. Goes off when occupied.

46 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2019

1) passenger air bag notices keeps coming on despite there being no passenger. Only goes away when I buckle the seatbelt 2)passenger seatbelt warning keeps coming on, only way to stop it is by buckling seatbelt 3)airbar ligtht goes on and off. Will indicate it needs service and then go away for a day or two before coming back on. 4) drive rotor bearing. Had it repaired and within a few months started making same noises again. Common issue with early generation Volts based on research.

47 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2019

I get a service airbag warning. I receive the message on startup and at random intervals the car will chime, and display the "service airbag" message. A red icon of a person wearing a seatbelt with an airbag deployed is displayed on the instrument panel and remains on, at all times that the car is on. I don't know the exact date this first occurred. I have owned the car for about 8 months. I bought it from a Chevrolet dealer.

48 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Component designed to detect passenger sitting on the passenger seat has failed causing the airbag to remain off. Dealer says the passenger presence detection module in the seat cushion has failed. I had a similar issue with vw which was a recall, however gm is not recalling these faulty vehicles. This could cause an airbag to not inflate during a crash.

49 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2018

While in motion my car sporadically displays "service air bag system. " upon diagnosis, dealer stated the passenger presence module needed to be replaced. This car is only 5 years old with 77,000 miles. Seems like a serious safety hazard for this item to be failing. Researching Chevrolet Volt owner forum yields numerous cases of this same issue.

50 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

A service airbag message randomly appears on the dashboard and goes away after a few minutes. The message appears at random with no apparent cause.

51 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

This is the third incident since I had this car along with charging issue in the beginning of ownership this Chevrolet Volt has been been deem total from the accident that occurred on January 6 because of the steering locking up.

52 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

"service airbag" lights intermittently. Original cause appeared to be movement of front passenger seat; recent causes were sudden braking and random normal speed cornering. Dealer attempted to reproduce problem, but unable. Dealer hand tightened wires under seat. Problem corrected for a few weeks, then returned. Suggested next step by dealer: replace pps module. Unfortunately, this is $800+ repair with no guaranteed outcome. This problem has been reported by other Volt owners in internet posts. Would like to know if gm has any fixes not known to dealer.

53 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

My car started intermittently saying "service airbag" since around 55,000 miles. No at 88,000 miles it now is on nearly all the time. I have been told the fix for this is reinstalling the passenger seat cushion due to a bad design. This repair is about $1000 to fix a manufacturer defect.

54 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2013

Was entering highway in the dark and went to put the car into "hold" mode to run the gas engine and save battery charge. This requires pushing a button 3 times. I reached over and pushed the button. Accidently was pushing the "power" button which is right below the "mode" button shutting down the car. The entire car shuts off, no lights, powertrain, ps, pb just dead. This is easy to do if you are watching the road and just glance down to the buttons. They are placed too close together and this is going to be a serious problem if in traffic or on winding roads. Numerous reports of this on the Volt forum!.
