4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

Air bag sensor error keeps going on and off in dashboard. Took Volt in and service department says a faulty passenger side sensor located in the passenger side seat. To fix over $1000 + labour + tax. When error is on, service department says passenger side airbags will not function, my Volt is up to close to 100,000 miles read that other 2012 Volt owners were experiencing the same error. Air bag error started around Feb of this year and has been off and on since then. Longest period it was on for, was about 3 days so then I took car in. Before that the error would appear for an hour or 2 before disappearing.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/18/2019

My 2013 chevy Volt is displaying a "service airbag" warning message. The local chevy dealer confirmed that the passenger seat occupancy sensor, (specifically, the "passenger presence module"), needs to be replaced. Due to the faulty passenger occupancy sensing, the passenger side airbags are deactivated, even when a passenger is present. The warning message is present (and intermittently beeping) almost continuously when driving, and obscures information on the screen in front of the driver. The cost to replace the presence module will be about $600, and due to the nature of the design, there is no guarantee that the replacement module will not fail in the same way again shortly. I have not been able to determine another way to ensure that the passenger airbags stay on.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

The service airbag red light came on about 2 weeks ago. We brought it in to get checked and the Volt service center said the passenger side air bag was faulty including circuitry which will affect the front airbag from working properly too.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

No unusual activity. No spills or other occurrence that could cause sensor to fail. Passenger seat presence detection sensor has failed. Car now reports a "service airbag" warning and has disabled the passenger side airbag because of it. This is a life-threatening error caused by a simple sensor failure that is showing a high failure rate with countless complaints on the internet. Most people are not repairing this sensor as it cost $1000 to $2000 to repair through the dealers that are not discounting or covering the cost of repair under warranty.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

The passenger side airbag sensor is failing. The car is not that old. We have had no spills in the car. But the airbag sensor is coming on. We paid the dealer $180 to look at it, but they found nothing wrong. Now the sensor light is coming on every time we start the car. It is out of warranty, and fixing will cost up to $1500. That is crazy. Many other people have had this problem with their chevy Volts.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/24/2016

Oct 24th morning murrieta, CA , it was raining and big thunders and lighting. My wife started for work , the car was fully charged. She made her usual right turn from " murrietta hotsprings rd " to " butterfield stage road" in city of murrieta / temecula CA. She put the car in "regeneration mode" as the road was down hill. There was a big lighting and followed by a big thunder sounds. She saw white light and was blinded for fraction of second, it was raining heavy, immediately she felt the car was floated/drifting to left , hit the center raod divider and all air bags were already deployed. She tried her best to pull the car to right (she could not see due to airbags deployed all except passenger side airbag) but could not do so , she also stated the steering was struck. The car came to stop after jumping into other side of the street. No other car was involved. Most of the damage to the car was to the front wheels, front under body due to impact with the center road divider. All airbags were deployed except for the passenger. She was alone in the car. The police and emd were at the scene after 10 -15 mins as someone had already called 911. I was at the sceen as the location was 10 mins from my home. The police report is still due as I notify you. Insurance declared total loss. My wife had minor injuries due to air bags. We hope someone can find answers for the following questions. 1) did lighting cause any electrical interference with vehicle electronics which may have contributed to the accident ? 2) why did air bags deploy if the wheels hit the center divider . Or what was the cause of airbags deployment ?.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/03/2016

Passenger-side airbag gets an error because of a malfunctioning seat sensor. Happens whether someone is sitting in the seat or not. More times than not the airbag warning will go out after driving for a bit.
