1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

Airbag warning light illuminated on dash. Vehicle no longer registered the passenger in the front passenger seat. Dealer states diagnostic code indicates occupant position detection system sensor is faulty. None in stock and no expected delivery date. Until part is repaired/replaced the vehicle will not detect a front seat passenger so the front seat passenger airbags will not deploy in a collision. Dealer states cost of repair to be in excess of $1,100!!.

2 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

All of a sudden, my 2014 chevy Volt with 70k miles start having airbag sensor errors on and off. I started to research and found a lot of other owners with chevy Volts generation 1 and 2 have similar issues. Very surprised that gm has not issued a recall for this and expect us to pay for the repair on their faulty system.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

My 2012 has a "service airbag" code that pops up when I start the car. After doing some research on the web, I've come to find out that this is a very common issue, especially with the 2012 chevy Volts. The problem is with the passenger airbag sensor in the seat. The repair for this issue is very expensive, and I afraid to have a passenger in my car. This should not be an issue the consumer has to pay for out of pocket. This is a safety issue. Thank you.

4 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/26/2020

Volt has 90,000 miles on it & I have air bag sensor error message. Never been in an accident & never spilled anything on the seats. This is a major issue with the Volt. Chevy will not repair the issue & want $880. Enough people have had the same issue.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/17/2020

Airbag sensor warning. 117k miles. Just came on, dealer wants $1100 to fix it. As this is a safety issue gm should fix it free.

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/09/2020

Began having intermittent "service airbag" warnings. Finally failed solid. Dealer diagnosed the problem to be a short circuit in the passenger present sensor in the passenger seat. Repair cost $1100. I declined repair. Dealer said this fault makes the entire airbag system inoperable. Tried to buy the repair part and was informed by an online gm parts source it was on national backorder. No idea when it will be available. This seems like a critical safety issue and a common problem in chevy vehicles. A recall should be issued.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/06/2020

Airbag sensor light is on. Garage has already replaced left front and right rear impact sensors. Problem still exists. Garage has already spent 2 days trying to figure out problem. No luck. I just discovered, via a google search, that this is a common problem with my Volt. There should be a recall!.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Front passenger seat airbag module is bad. No accidents. Sensor failure comes on when you start the car. Chevrolet is saying it's over $800 to replace. 99950 miles on odometer. Airbag sensor started coming on sporadically while an adult was sitting in the front passenger seat during the last 10,000-20,000 miles of driving vehicle. Now the airbag sensor comes on every time vehicle is started.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

Intermittent "service airbag" warning, despite the vehicle never having been in an accident. Occurs while vehicle in motion, sometimes with passenger, sometimes without. Seems to be a sensor/wiring problem.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Passenger front seat sensor for airbag system malfunctions, resulting in passenger airbag being turned off while adult passenger is in seat. This occurs when the vehicle is moving or stationary and both in town and on the highway. Dealer indicated this repair would cost nearly $1000 (~$500 in parts and over $400 labor).

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

The "service air bag" message intermittently appears on the dashboard while the car is in motion. The cost to replace the sensor per Chevrolet dealer is very expensive, over $800. I understand the same issue is reported in prior years model. The problem seems to apply to the 2014 model as well.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

The vehicle airbag service continually goes on while driving and in park. There has been no spills or related issues with the seat but the sensor has obviously malfunctioned.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/15/2020

My car has an intermittent "service airbag" warning. It has been throwing a fault every so often for about a year. According to the dealership, the passenger seat presence sensor wiring is faulty.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/05/2020

Faulty air bag sensor.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/18/2020

Service airbag message due to faulty pressure sensor in front passenger seat. Cost $800 to replace.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

Passanger airbag sensor faulty requiring replacement. When it was malfunctioning the airbag would default to off. Making it not deploy in the event of an accident even if a passager was in the seat.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Occasionally, receive a warning on dashboard that airbags require service. According to the dealer, the passenger presence sensor is defective and disables all airbags (including driver-side) in the vehicle. In September 2019, NHTSA launched an investigation into similar complaints and gm vehicles: https://gmauthority. Com/blog/2019/09/Chevrolet-volt-under-investigation-for-airbag-warning-lights/.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/20/2019

The passenger detection sensor failed which affects functionality of passenger airbag. For some reason this wasn't covered covered under extended warranty.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/20/2019

The airbag sensor warning for the front passenger seat goes off every time I drive regardless if there is a person occupying the seat or not. Have been to the dealer who says it is out of warranty but that the airbags work fine and the only repair is to replace the seat sensor for $1000. Question is will the airbags work properly or not in the event of a crash?? I hear there is an investigation open for this issue pe19013.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

There's a persistent issue with the airbag sensor for the passenger seat, where it will either 1) give an error warning when no one is in the seat, or 2) temporarily not register the presence of a passenger in the seat. In the latter instance the airbag is temporarily taken offline while a person is actually in the seat, and it turns on and off whenever the passenger shifts their weight. These error warnings occur with every start up of the vehicle.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/21/2019

When a passenger gets out of the front passenger seat a warning will flash saying to service the airbag. Problem will persists until the car is shut off and won't show up again until a passenger sits in the front passenger seat again. Seems to be a problem with the passenger occupancy sensor. The problem has persisted since beginning of ownership approx. 1 month ago, and continues until the date of this report.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/15/2019

The check airbag sensor comes on sporadically, and the car does not seem to recognize when someone is in the passenger seat. The estimated cost of the sensor repair is ~$900 even though the warning is not consistent. This happens while driving. As far as I can tell, there is no known cause.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

I recently noticed in my chevy Volt passenger airbag sensor problems. Passenger front seat sensor for airbag system malfunctions, resulting in passenger airbag being turned off while adult passenger is in seat. This occurs when the vehicle is moving or stationary and both in town and on the highway.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

The passenger airbag sensor triggered a warning (vehicle in motion). Took vehicle to dealer and they tried the typical loose connection check, water damage check, etc. Removed sensor and tested it - not pulling any current, so must be bad and need replacement. Total cost to replace $1,200!! if it's not replaced, airbags are disabled to protect against accidental deployment. I decided to pass and pretend that the car was built in the 1970s (ie, no airbags and just relying on seatbelts).

25 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

My Volt is giving me a "service airbag soon" warning on startup. Car is kept in a garage. The dealership said it was because I cleaned my seat and got it too wet, but I used standard seat cleaner sparingly. Also, the drivers seat appears to receive the error and this seat has never seen any "moisture". Secondly, with no accidents or collisions, one of the front sonar sensors failed, with the dealership claiming it was due to bug buildup. Another $600 fix that I didn't do because it's nothing of my doing and that's an outrageous amount of money.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Air bag sensor pad in front passenger seat is faulty. Dash light comes on and off at random in front seat. May lead to airbags failing to go off. Front passenger seat faulty, air bag sensor pad is not installed beneath the foam in the seat, instead it is on top. Has lead to numerous problems when even just setting a bag on the seat. This is a safety problem. Powertrain issue, battery section 3 failed prematurely due to a $5 temperature sensor failing. Cost to replace the entire battery section was $3000+ dollars for a $5 part.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Several months ago my "service airbag" light started randomly coming on. I thought at the time that it was due to a failing 12v battery. So I replaced the battery and initially, the warning went away. Then after about 3 weeks it started randomly coming on again. Then after another week or so, it would come on every time you drove the car, but I could just acknowledge the warning and it would stop. Now, just 2 days ago, that no longer works. It will come on every time you start the car and also randomly as you are driving down the road. In my 1. 5 hour commute to work, it probably came on 40-60 times. Sometimes not for 5 or 10 miles, sometimes just as soon as you pushed the button, it would come on again. This is a known issue for Volts and other gm vehicles and I've heard the problem is in the airbag sensor in the passenger seat. If that is the case, it is definitely because of a bad part and not wear and tear because I use my car to commute 100+ miles and I hardly ever have anyone sitting in the passenger seat. I have been told this repair will cost anywhere from $800-1500 to fix. There needs to be a recall for this serious issue because there is no way a safety system should just fail like that, rendering the car dangerous for any passengers. I also shouldn't have to pay $1000 to replace a poorly designed part on my car that causes a major safety issue. Please investigate this further and implement a recall to get this repaired before someone is killed.

28 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

The warning "service airbag" appears randomly on the display. This may concern the passenger airbag sensor. Appears with or without any passenger on the seat.

29 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/18/2019

An apparent failure of the passenger seat occupancy sensor prevents correct operation of the airbag system. When a light object is on the seat, or when a passenger exits the seat, a service airbag system light comes on and persists until the next vehicle power cycle. The problem is intermittent. Initial research points to the seat sensor as the culprit, but the repair is outlandishly expensive, and prevents owners from seeking the repair, especially when the dealer cannot guarantee that the repair will succeed.

30 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

Service air bag system message comes up on dash briefly and goes away again quickly. After some research online, I'm finding this is most likely cause by the passenger seat airbag sensor or seat occupancy sensor. It has only happened in our Volt when I had a front seat passenger so this makes complete sense. This is a very common issue on 2012, 2013 and 2014 chevy Volts at least and should be recalled and repaired by gm. This is a safety issue. The repair is around $800 and that should not be the case with a safety issue on many vehicles u see 100k miles. We have 81k on ours. I saw the issue happened to other Volts in my research as low as 27k miles. When this happens, I have just started the vehicle, it is stationary and people are getting into seats and buckling belts. Longest the message has come on was about 45sec with most occurrences more like 10-15 sec before message clears. This were all in suburb type settings and not the first use of the day for the vehicle but rather later on in day second or more use for the day.

31 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

Last June I took my car in for normal service and right as I was exiting the lot, I got a "service airbag' notification that was not on there anytime within the 5 years I've had the car, nor before I dropped it off. I asked the dealer to look at it because maybe a sensor or wire was loose and they refused without additional payment. I raised such a question that the manager of the dealership sent me paperwork stating that the dealer I bought it from sold me a salvaged car, however the VIN was one number or letter off. The dealer where I received service from also kept asking me if I was in an accident and I have not been; however with my car being a certified pre-owned, maybe there was one previously that was not reported? suffice it to say, a lawyer would be pricey. All & all the paperwork I was sent did not match the VIN on my car and I started looking in forums and found many other people were having the same "service airbag" issue out of the blue, which led me to wonder why this hasn't been classified as a recall.

32 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Air bag sensor inside the seat started failing intermittently. Over 6 months it went from going off and back on once a trip, to multiple times in a trip. Then full on failed. Appears to be a common issue based on discussions here: https://gm-volt. Com/forum/archive/index. Php/t-306433. Html.

33 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Airbag weight sensor issues on passenger side.

34 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Passenger airbag sensor, being triggered intermittently. Sensor is contained within the passenger seat. Sensor is question is called a passeneger presence system module.

35 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

Just paid $975 to have the passenger air bag sensor replaced on my 2013 chevy Volt. I was informed by the gm Volt thread that this a manufacturing issue with the chevy Volts and is happening to many Volt owners.
