1 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/21/2022

Passenger airbag error indicator. I took my 2013 Volt to the dealer who indicated it was a sensor error in the seat and requires a 1000. $ seat and sensor replacement. My Volt has 80k miles and no collisions or accidents. There is no justifiable reason for me to replace the front seat for 1000. 00 due to a poorly designed wire harness or sensor. I won't risk having a front seat passenger due to this malfunction. Furthermore I can't sell the vehicle. Why has the NHTSA closed this complaint?.

5 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

Service airbag sensor for passenger side airbag. I will get the warning ding, then the airbag light will illuminate for a few minutes, then go out again. It used to happen infrequently, when something, like a handbag was on the seat, but is becoming more common as time goes on when there is nothing on the seat. The quote for repair is over $1000. This is not an isolated incident; this should be a recall item by chevy.

7 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Vehicle message said "service engine" "engine unavailable, low propulsion" "service airbag" and airbag light stays on. Took it to hendrick Chevrolet apex north carolina. They said there is a recall #n172130462-02. They said that recall did not cover service airbag and airbag light. They said I would need to replace the bcm for $900+. Many complaints for the same problem online at various forums and car websites. Also was reading there was an investigation into these airbags but I do not see a recall for it yet. Please let me know if there is any solution to this issue. The car is used daily to take kids to school and back and I'm concerned the airbags will not go off if needed. Thank you. 8 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

Air bag light stays on. Replaced driver seat with no change. Chevy dealership advised the issue now is the passenger seat sensors and quoted me $1000 to fix. They also told me there is only one part available in the USA and they dont know if the holder will sell it. This puts my car and passengers in danger if there is an accident. Chevy needs to address/fix this.

Sevice airbag msg and the indicator light (red) comes on on dash and "ding dong" sound. Sometimes it goes off when passenger is in front seat. Sometimes it does not. Sometimes it comes on immediately upon start up and sometimes while driving. It is very sporatic and also very worrisome. 13 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/12/2020

My 2013 chevy Volt passenger airbag light warning came on my cluster indicating that it needed service which I was told that it was the passenger seat sensor but the cost to fix it's outrageous so I haven't fixed it and it's a safety issue and I believe that Chevrolet should have a recall on this matter because it's happening to many chevy Volt owners.

16 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

My check airbag light has been going on and off for years without instigation. It seems to be a recurring issue with chevy Volts and is an expensive repair that affects the safety of my passengers. It first appeared not long after I purchased the vehicle and it doesn't matter if the car is in motion or not when it appears again and again. It will also go away without being addressed. I'm worried it could appear again and my airbags won't deploy properly in the event of a crash.

17 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

Service air bag light has been on for six months, three different dealers has given different reasons and none of them has been able to replicate the differing claims. All three dealers estimates between $900 to $1,100 as possible resolution cost.

19 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Airbag light comes on when even the slightest pressure is placed on the passenger seat. I was told that replacing the sensor in the seat is the only remedy, and that is repair is not covered by warranty. This is a major safety issue that is known to gm.

22 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

My passenger airbag light came on and it's been on for a while now. I went to a chevy Volt forum on google and apparently it's a problem that my chevy Volt owners are having so I think that this should be a safety issue since it involves the airbag.

23 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

My Volt service airbag light comes on and off all the time. When I go to make an appointment with service the light is off. My understanding is many Volt owners are having this issue with their cars. In all my years of driving different vehicles I've never had an airbag issue with a car. Chevy needs to stand behind this airbag issue!! a repair bill of over $800 is not acceptable!!.

24 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

The airbag indicator for the passenger seat will ding intermittently no matter what is placed in the passenger seat. This leaves in question whether or not the air bag is engaged or disengaged properly.

25 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

The service airbag light turns on intermittently. It only happens when something is either set on my passenger seat or if someone sits in that seat. It will happen at anytime, generally when going from park to driving.

26 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Starting in August of 2019, our 2013 chevy Volt air bag indicator light went on and off intermittently when the car was running. This usually happened while the car was moving, but sometimes when it was in park. It also happened whenever changing the speed using cruise control. We researched the problem and discovered it was related to the sensor in the passenger seat. When we did, we found that there are many other mentions of this problem online (especially given that there aren't many models of this car on the road), and that the solution is to replace the sensor in the seat. We took the car to a chevy dealer to assess the problem, and were told that even though it is a safety issue, that it was not covered under warranty. We were also told that when the sensor does not work properly, that the airbags likely won't inflate in the case of an accident. Therefore, we asked to schedule the repair, but were told the part could not be ordered due to the gm strike. In late December, we heard from the dealer that the part was in so we had it fixed today at the cost of $755. 05 we are very upset about the high cost for the repair since this is a known issue with this particular sensor, and a huge safety hazard.

27 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/25/2019

About four weeks ago my service airbag light came on. No car crash and no wet seat for the sensor to go off. The light just came on when I turned the car one morning on my way to work. I use the car to commute to work and back home, have no children 70% of the time I drive alone.

28 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

The car regularly gets an airbag light relating to the passenger seat presence sensor. The airbag light will randomly come on and then turn off as I drive.

29 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Same problem most everyone else is having. Service airbag message comes on frequently and red airbag light stays on. Started at around 85-90k miles. And no accidents. This is a safety issue and there needs to be a recall. How many complaints will it take? its a great car otherwise. Ford is much more proactive with safety recalls than gm.

30 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

Service airbag light appears at random times, none of the seats have any damage or spills. Appears to be a common issue that chevy does not want to fix. Please help.

31 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

The check airbag indicator light and the passenger airbag go on and off repeatedly even if a passenger is in the seat. The passenger presence system has failed at 70,000 miles. It happens whenever the vehicle is being driven making it unsafe to have a passenger in the front seat. I have read several gm and Volt blogs and this seems to be a common problem with 2012 and 2013 Volt.

32 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/10/2019

Service airbag light comes on at startup. Its the passenger side air bag sensor in seat, sounds like its the pressure plate to activate air bag is bad. Sounds like a common thing with the Volt?.

33 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

My service airbag light has been coming on for months and I dont know why. I use this car for commuting and nothing has been done to the seat or car that would cause this service light to turn on. I have read on a few forums where this airbag light has came on for a few people and its leading to a sensor fix which can cost up to $1000. Has gm issued a recall on this problem since its a safety issue?.

34 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

The passenger front seat occupancy sensor is faulty causing the air bag to not be armed while passenger is in seat. Sometimes the air bag will be on but when passenger moves in seat or we hit a bump the air bag light goes off. It will cost $989. 00 to fix for a sensor inside seat is what dealer told me. This is a problem several other owners are having.

35 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 12/27/2018

The service airbag light came on due to a sensor in the seat cushion being faulty.
