37 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

The service airbag light comes on for no apparent reason. It doesn't matter if someone is sitting in the seat or not. If someone is in the seat when this happen the airbag is not armed so it would not deploy in an accident. I am the original owner, it was purchased in October 2011 and has over 90,000 miles on it. This is an important safety issue since the airbag won't deploy during an accident.

38 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

The service airbag light is on and the dealer said it is a common problem. That a cell phone sitting on the seat can cause the light to come on. It seems to be a flaw in the design and something that the manufacturer should fix for free.

39 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

My 2013 chev Volt service air bag light comes on frequently. The dealership quoted me over $800 to fix it. I have read online others have this problem. I want my car to be safe. This should be a safety recall.

40 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 05/05/2018

The service airbag light is on, and the dealership says that it is the passenger side seat 'passenger presence module' that needs to be replaced, at a cost of over $800. The car is a 2013 with 79k miles, so is out of warranty, but I just find it really disappointing that this kind of manufacturer issue is not covered by the manufacturer through a recall or factory warranty. This isn't an issue of routine maintenance, and the car has never been in an accident, so it just does not seem like something I should have to pay $800 for.

41 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

Driving, so spills on seats, service airbag light goes on. $800. Fix at the local Chevrolet dealer. Why isn't there a recall on this fuse? I can't afford to fix it. I just purchased the car a year ago. No accidents, nothing amiss otherwise, love the car, gave up my newer prius to get this car.

42 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

Service airbag light warning. Repair shop says the passenger side seat 'passenger presence module' needs to be replaced. What is the safety risk of not paying the $500?.

43 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 02/13/2018

While driving the airbag light came on for the passenger airbag. It would come on and go off even while someone was sitting in the seat the airbag would just turn off and then turn back on.

44 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/07/2018

Passenger presence sensor (pps) malfuncrion in passenger airbag in 2013 Chevrolet Volt. The car always consistently had the airbag light go on and off many times for years with the car. It always stays on due to pps module error now.

45 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

In my used Chevrolet Volt 2012, the airbag light has come on. I took it to a Chevrolet dealership and they said that the passenger presence module wasn't functioning, and so it was causing the airbag light to go on and thus making my airbags inoperable. Chevrolet says that my car is out of warranty, but this issue is widely reported on Chevrolet Volt forums, and makes the car unsafe to operate as their are no working airbags when I drive it. Chevrolet wants me to pay for the repair, but something like a module that detects whether or not a passenger is present should not be a wear-and-tear item like tires or even an engine. I don't think its reasonable to say that this is operater error, and instead I believe it is manufacturer error and by not doing the right thing and correcting their design flaw and manufacturer defect, Chevrolet is causing many Volt drivers to operate unsafe vehicles that have no operable airbag or pay a large amount of money for a new passenger side seat with a new presence module. Through research on forums, many Chevrolet Volt drivers have already paid anywhere from $500-$1200 for this repair, and I believe they should also receive compensation. I have not paid to have this fixed yet and am still trying to find a resolution with Chevrolet, but as it is a widespread issue, I thought the nhsta should know about it and do something to protect consumers. The car has never been in an accident, and I have no idea why the airbag light came on in the first place.

46 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

There is a capacitive field detector in the passenger seat also called a passenger position sensor. Instead of a simple buckle detector this part has failed in my car at 76,000 miles and the affect is that the passenger airbag is disabled. The part is apparently around 800$ as the entire seat assembly must be replaced. The indicator on the dash simply says to service the airbags. It may be anecdotal due to the intermittent nature of the failure but it seemed to clear when I accelerated and fail upon breaking, slowing down or going down hill. This seems like the exact opposite of when you'd want your airbags to become disabled.

47 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Whenever someone sits in the passenger seat, the service airbag indicator comes on. Dealer reviewed codes and determined the airbag sensor is faulty. The service tech stated the passenger airbag will not inflate until this is repaired at a cost of $850. 00. There are only 56,000 miles on the car, but the problem started around 40,000 miles.

48 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

When unoccupied, the driver information display shows "check airbag" and the red indicator on the drivers display indicates that the passenger airbag is disabled. This problem has gone from intermittent to consistent over the past year.

49 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Passenger seat airbag sensor intermittently malfunctioning causing airbag to disable while passenger is present in the vehicle. Vehicle presents service airbag message in the dashboard and passenger airbag indicator is set to off.

50 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/27/2016

Passenger seat occupancy sensor intermittent failure. Should be added to investigation pe19013. Airbag light and service airbag message is on 7 out of 10 times the car is turned on and no passenger or item is in the passenger seat(while stationary). Light will turn off after several minutes of driving or applying force to the bottom of the empty passenger seat. Driving with a passenger the light is usually off, however sometimes it will come on with a passenger present and vehicle in motion, and can be resolved by the passenger shifting their weight a few times. Issue is too hard to demonstrate to dealer and would cost too much for me to bother repairing on my own. Other models from Chevrolet during that time period use the same sensor and have been recalled or are pending a recall. This problem first started when I purchased the car in 2016 but much more infrequently. It has become more and more common gradually ever since. Seat has not had anything spilled on it, or rain let in from open windows etc.

51 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

Within a year of owning the car the passenger airbag sensor is apparently failing. My check airbag light turns on and off when passengers or mild or heavy objects are sitting in the seat or even shifting position in the seat makes the check airbag notification appear on driver information screen. It's an annoying notification at least. And not sure if all the airbags will deploy if the need to. I've addressed this before without word from this government organization.

52 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

I purchased my 2012 chevy Volt in 2016 at 65,000 miles. Very shortly after purchase, I noticed the airbag light come on. It was not on all the time, but if someone was in the seat or if my purse was on the seat the light would come on and off. Sometimes it will be off, but come on if I hit a pothole - which is inevitable in houston. I took the car to my local chevy dealership, and they told me that I have a faulty airbag sensor in the passenger seat and it would be $800+ to fix the issue. I thought I had an isolated issue until I saw many others with the same problem.

53 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Service air bag light illuminated around 40k miles. Has been on since. Code is saying the passenger presence module to be bad. I believe this is the case as I can press on the seat very hard with my knee and sometimes get the module to sense the weight, however when seated normally it never senses a passenger, and I am 185 pounds.

54 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

My airbag light on the dash has been on for a very long time now and I just read an article the other day that thousands of complaints have been made over this same issue. I have a snap-on scanner for reading obd2 ports on a large amount of vehicles and when I plug mine up to my Volt it tells me it is the sensor in the seat. I have already replaced this sensor once. The dealer tried to rob me in trying to charge me over 800. 00 for this very simple repair. Needless to say it is out yet again and gm knows there are scores of problems with the Volt but they wont properly address them. I had a 2017 Volt that caught fire and burnt to the ground. What did they do about it? not a damn thing. I sincerely hope the feds make them do something to address this vehicle as lives are on the line.
