2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2023

I was parked in a parking lot backing out of a space. I was too close to the right curb so I put the car in drive to go forward to straighten out the tires. The gas accelerated abruptly and would not stop when I pressed the brake. The car jumped the curb/sidewalk and plowed into the parked car in front of me. The gas continued to accelerate pushing the vehicle in front of me about 5 feet back. The car did not stop until I jammed it into park. My bumper was ripped off when backing up was caught in the grill of the vehicle it collided with. I had both feet on the brake pad trying to stop the car and it would not stop. A very frightening experience. I have read several posts on this acceleration problem and believe there should be a recall. Not a good experience to remember Chrysler by.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2023

After starting the vehicle and going from reverse to drive the vehicle stalls out. After the initial stall and traveling a few miles, while stopping at a traffic signal the vehicle stalls out again and more times than not can accelerate at a speed higher than prompted. This is a frequent occurrence and other owners of the same make model and year that I have spoken with have the same issue.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

My first complaint is that my car stalls as I am actively driving. Whether I am using cruise control or physically pressing the gas pedal, the car just stalls out and I lose control of all steering function & have to try to get to the shoulder before I get slammed into on the highway. This happens at least twice weekly, all hours of the day or night, regardless of the weather or how much gas is in the tank, and I almost always have my children with me. There are not one, but two recalls for this specific issue which I just found today after months of internet searching because I never received any notices. The recalls are Chrysler campaign n52 and NHTSA campaign 13v043000 - so how is it that those recalls don't apply to my particular 2013 Chrysler 200? my second complaint is about the horn, and I'm not the only person who has dealt with this one either, there are several online forums. . . When I manually press the horn on the steering column, nothing happens. No sound, no beeps, no honks, nada. If I need to alert someone of my presence, I can't. (this actually caused me to get hit by another driver who was on her phone last December, and I saw her coming at me but I couldn't alert her). Now just because I can't manually make the horn go beep, doesn't mean it does not work. Oh it works. There's a horn in there some where that just randomly honks, every day, sometimes I'm driving, sometimes I'm in my house. The honks can be little blips or short beeps, but most of the time, it's just one very, very long continuous honk. When I'm driving and this happens people think I'm having an emergency and all start to move over to the far right lane, which is just dangerous. If I cause a wreck over distracting other drivers it wouldn't be good. I did have it looked at, the mechanic plugged in the diagnostic computer & said there was no error code and he couldn't see anything immediately that would cause the issue, so it was most likely electric and he'd need a code to know more.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

Chyrlser 200 4cyl sedan. When driving on the freeway the car doesn't shift to the proper gear. The rpms would be between 6000-7000 and couldn't get over 60 mph. It has happened twice in the past month. The check engine light showed up the second time with a code p0882 transmission control module.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2020

My 2013 Chrysler 200 s keeps stalling. I replaced the fuel pump, bought a new battery, and had my alternator and transmission looked at, all the transmission shop found was an oil pressure code, and they cleared it.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2020

Engine failure, speed control doesn't work, car keeps cutting off, does not pick up speed, jerks really bad, shifts gears by it self at times, air bags are recalled, the car has been at the Chrysler dealership for over 6 months they keep saying different things are wrong with it not sure completely what the issues are just know a few. I was told the car is still jerking and cutting off which was the problem when I brought the car in they are charging me almost $800 for work done and was promised the car would be fixed but the car still has the same exact issues from the moment I brought it in. And being told it is still not drivable after being worked in by Chrysler mechanics for over 6 months.

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 200. While driving, the vehicle lost power. The accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard, but there was no acceleration. The dealer further stated that there was possible electrical failure due to an improper jump start. The contact believed the dealer caused the electrical failure. The contact stated that the throttle body failure recurred even though the dealer did not think a failure existed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they want to charge the contact for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 110,000.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

I was driving and all of a sudden the car started making a loud whining noise and seemed to be downshifting and lurching by itself. It was not shifting properly and it seemed to be doing stuff by itself. I did not have control over what it was doing. I had to pull off the highway and called triple a and the car had to be towed. It was repaired and now 2 weeks later it again downshifted by itself out of the blue and started whining again. It has not been driven since.

Heat only comes out on the driver side of the vehicle. It comes out really cold in the passages. The heater core was replaced last year be the dealer and it's doing it again. I was sitting a light and when it turned green I tried to go than it wouldn't go than it jumped forward and it went. I got a little down the road than it slowed down and it was almost like driving in neutral wouldn't pick up speed at all. It stopped moving again than it wouldn't go at all the cops had to help me push it to the side of the road.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

Car jumps when accelerating, having the problem for a while now. The electronic throttle body seems to be affected. Car will idle when driving and goes to a high rpm.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2017

Bought care used from the dealer 9 months ago and at approx. 52,000 miles the check engine light and traction control light came on while driving. The car decelerated to 30mph and lost all throttle control. Luckily I could pull over and get out of traffic and when I stopped the engine shuttered violently then cut off. This could have been fatal if it happened on the interstate. Had to restart the car over a dozen times to get it home. Finally got it to the shop and they have replace the throttle body and computer. Still at the shop and the issue is still not resolved. The bill is almost $600 and I don't have a working car . After doing research I see this is the same issue that happens to this car. Chrysler really needs to recall all of these cars and refund all money so we can buy a car that runs and will not potentially kill someone.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

On approximately 7/14/15, upon accelerating from a stopped position, my Chrysler 200 hesitated on take off. I had to take my foot off the gas pedal and slowly try accelerating again, still with hesitation, but finally taking off. There was slight hesitation as my vehicle was accelerating, then the fuel seemed to catch up. This has occurred several times randomly since 7/14/15. I took my car to the dealership on 7/23/15 as it is still under manufacturers warranty, explained the situation, and they said they found no problems, that "no codes" showed up on the computer. This problem appears to effect the engine, fuel/propulsion system and speed control. I was very concerned each time this happened of being involved in a car accident. I will continue to be concerned until this problems is resolved. I intend to take it back to the dealership for further investigation into this problem.

Chrysler # 1-800-247-9753 previous complaint listed below: date complaint filed: 07/28/2013 component(s): power train date of incident: 07/26/2013 NHTSA id number: 10532198 all products associated with this complaint expand details close 0 associated documents crash:no fire:no number of injuries:0 number of deaths:0 manufacturer: Chrysler (fca us llc) vehicle identification no. (VIN): 1c3ccbbbxdn. . . Summary: I started the 2013 Chrysler 200 and shifted the transmission into "drive". With my foot still on the brake pedal, I checked the mileage on our new car and it read 139 miles. I could feel the transmission engage then I felt what seemed to be a second engagement before I took my foot off the brake. As soon as I began driving I noticed the vehicle was not shifting out of first (1st) gear. I stopped the car and shifted through park, neutral and manual in an attempt to free up the transmission but when I started driving again it still would not transition out of first (1st) gear even when put in the manual shift mode. I drove it directly to the dealer without turning off the vehicle, and after a test drive they confirmed that it was not shifting but stated they could not find a code indicating any problem. They restarted the vehicle and it began to function normally again. The dealer said there was nothing they could do, and to bring it back if it happened again.
