Friday, I was driving to work, the car felt like it was going to stall out, I luckily made it to work. It made an awful sound like something broke. Later that day, I took it to a nearby garage, the mechanic said the engine had blown & his suggestion was to take it to a junk yard & hope for a couple hundred dollars, other wise, it would cost 2000. 00 for a remanufactured motor & 1000. 00 for labor to install the motor. He also stated that the Chrysler 2. 7 motor was notorious for broken timing belts & the engines locking up.

He found some information on the internet about how oil sludge buildup in these engines could cause the timing chain to fail, which causes the engine to malfunction. Apparently, this was a known problem with these engines. The contact stated Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen have the same problem because they have the same engine. They have extended their warranties to cover sludge problems beyond the normal warranty period. He has not yet talked to the dealer.

Chrysler Concorde 2000 engine noise, timing belt tension off due to low oil pressure from clogged oil lines in engine. Mechanic said engine would need replaced at a cost of $6000 plus labor.
On my way to work my engine in my 2000 concord started ticking and seized while driving in a snow storm on January 4, 2005. I only have 40,000 miles on my 4 year old car with a 5 year/50,000 mile extended warranty which I paid over $900 for and Chrysler will not help! I was fortunate that I was slowing down for a red light when it seized which saved me from being in an accident or from anyone getting hurt. The local car repair shop told me that my timing belt broke and destroyed the engine and that it was a common problem in the 2. 7l engines that Chrysler put in their cars due to the oil distribution system. Chrysler blames the problem with sludging in the engine and it will cost me $6,000 to replace the engine. They want me to show my receipts for my oil changes which I did not save. When I went to the shops that I had my oil changes done some were not on the system because I did not return within a year and the latest shop where I change my oil just received a new computer system and just started to record the changes on February 15, 2005 but not prior to this date. This leaves me with nothing but a big bill that I should not have to pay! I know that there is a class action lawsuit being or already is filed against Chrysler for this problem. I need to find out how to get my name on this lawsuit and how to escalate this problem to get Chrysler to pay for the fixes. I can be e-mailed at wrlpal@aol. Com or by replying to this e-mail.

In August of 2003. My Chrysler Concorde failed due to a faulty tensioner, 66,000 miles. This caused engine damage(valves bent, etc. . ) engine rebuilt cost $2500. On September 6th 2004 82,000 miles, I was driving my car to get food. Approximately 1 mile or less from my home, my car died. Oil was sludgy when viewing it through oil entrance on engine. Awaiting repair estimates from repair shop.
The timing chain broke while the vehicle was being driven on the interstate. The manufacture stated that the problem existed because of faulty maintenance.
1) driving 1999 Chrysler Concorde when weird noises started. Pulled off the road. Stuck with my (2) children in a hot car until tow truck came. 2) car would not restart. Called Chrysler dealer. They said the tensioner for the timing belt was broke. We fixed that for over $400. 00. Then they ran a compression check. No compression. They said the valves in the engine were probably bent. Looking at $2,500. 00 or more to fix or a re-built engine for $7,000. 00. 3) my husband had the car towed back home. We are tearing it apart ourselves. (cant afford Chrysler to do it). The valves are bent. We are taking the heads to a local machine shop to put new valves in.
The check engine lite went on suddently. We had the crank & cam sensor replaced in late may 2004. We were at 37,000 miles. Just out of warranty. We had to pay over $300. The dealership blamed sludge. This can't be the case. The car has been well taken care of. Now the timing belt is going. Again blamed on sludge. We have been told it can die on us at anytime. Chrysler will not accept any responsibility. Why is everything blamed on sludge. There is apparently something else wrong that Chrysler does not want to own up to.
While making a left hand turn vehicle stalled. As a result, the timing chain broke, and sludge built up.
: the contact stated while driving 40 mph all lights on the dashboard illuminated as the vehicle began to smoke from under the hood. Engine failure @70,000 miles . Seems like a common problem for 2. 7l engines in Concorde, interpide, sebring and stratus. Regular oil changes every 3000 miles, belts changed car has been babied. Car seized while taking in for oil change and oil light came on. With no other indications of problems.
Th econsumer complained about an engine problem. The first time he stopped at a traffic light and when he tried to pull out the engine stalled. He was able to get it to start it back, but it made a lot of noise. The consumer took vehicle to a mechanic who told him that there was a problem with the timing chain. While driving at 50 mph, the consumer heard a loud fluttering sound under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle immediately lost power and a few seconds later it stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the serpentine belt snapped. The dealer found the timing belt idler tensioner bolt broken off in the block and the water pump leaking they drilled out the broken bolt and replaced the timing belt and tensioner, the engine was cranked over and the discovered that all cylinders the had no compression. Probable cause was bent valves. Consumer had to replace the engine.
Fuel pump failed/timing belt broke, and the piston went through the engine. As a result, the vehicle stalled while driving at a low speed. Dealership was unable to replace the engine due to a back order because this was a common problem.
