1 Engine problem of the 2000 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 04/05/2011

Hello, I would just like to take the time to explain the situation with my year 2000 Chrysler Concorde lx. I am a college student and I purchased this car roughly a year and a half ago with 41,000 miles on it. The carfax vehicle report stated that the car had perfect routine maintenance and it was owned by one female owner over the course of its life. After owning the car I now have about 65,000 miles on this car, with perfect routine maintenance. I am experiencing the symptoms of the engine sludge problem that these 2. 7 liter engines experience. My rpms are dropping to low revs at idle, and my mechanic says that the engine will eventually seize while driving. At this point I no longer drive the vehicle and leave it stationary in my parents garage. To replace these engines they cost around 4,000 - 10,000 dollars. That is more than the price of the vehicle itself. There is clearly a defect in the engine design, and any quick google search can show this. There are hundreds upon thousands of complaints online in public forums and engine orientated websites. I only hope that this organization investigates this situation, and takes it seriously.

2 Engine problem of the 2003 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

2003 Chrysler Concorde engine 2. 7 with 74000 miles on the odometer. The engine coolant got mixed with the oil, not even the 100k miles range and now I end up with a $9,000 paperweight! its not fair that the "poor" design and the misleading information on the owners manual ("the owners manual says that you can go 7,500 miles before your next oil change") has such a costly result, $5,000 for the engine replace, and Chrysler is not doing anything about the problem, they're just blaming the consumer saying we didn't take care of our cars! my car has had the oil changed at 3000 miles every time, that's 4500 miles more often than the recommended "safe" distance mentioned on the owners manual! c'mon people this is wrong and you know it place a recall for this engine and keep the reputation you guys work for too long to acquire! love Chryslers but this is a nightmare!.

18 Engine problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 04/15/2007

Timing clutch broke. Ruined engine. 100,000 miles. Otherwise in perfect condition. Too expensive to replace with a new engine. Especially with the mechanical history of this specific engine. The only offer I have received to sell this vehicle is the salvage yard. $100 if I bing it to them. $50 if they come get it. This is ridiculous. All other parts in perfect condition.

Stepson was driving car back from toledo ohio area to canton ohio and the engine in the car jerked and then just quit. Car was towed to local dealership and informed this morning that the timing chain had broker and destroyed the engine. After researching this today I find out that there are websites referencing this and many documented cases of this catastrophic failure happening to others. While driving on the highway; the engine of my 1999 Chrysler Concorde, had a catastrophic failure. There was an incident involving the timing chain that led to a great many failures, top so being the crankshaft, as I was told by the dealership I had evaluate the problem. The engine is the 2. 7l dohc v6 that comes stock with the 1999 Concorde. I changed my oil regularly and never expected the motor to fail at just over 42k miles. I was 400 miles from home when this occurred, and had to wait in a shopping center for several hours until we could arrange a way home for myself, my wife, and at the time my 5 month old daughter.

24 Engine problem of the 2000 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 10/20/2006

I was driving along interstate 295 just passing into massachusetts on October 20th 2006 when I heard my engine making horrid sounds, all of a sudden I had no control and instead of panicking like a normal driver and crashing horribly(which would have happened I assure you) I popped the car into neutral, turned off all power and coasted into the breakdown lane(turning with no power is no fun at all). As it turns out my engine had blown up while I was driving which could have killed me and had my 2 week old daughter and fiance been in the car they as well. My mechanic told me that I should not have been able to do what I did but I was lucky and there were very few drivers on the road. I have worked at oil change garages and I do regular maintenance on my car. The fault is with the engine.

27 Engine problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

28 Engine problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 07/02/2006

I bought a 1999 Concorde with a 2. 7l engine at the end of March of 06. On April 3, 2006 I got an oil change and other maintenance, and the car was at approximately 127k miles. All seemed well with the car. On 7/2/06, the day before my scheduled oil change, my wife took my car to work instead of her own, as she was going to the grocery store afterwards. At about 7:07 am, I get a call from my frantic wife, and she explained to me that she was on I-96 just before the exit to I-275 in michigan going about 70 mph and the car lost power and died without warning. My first thought was "are you ok?" I immediately got up and went to where she was. The car would not even turn over. I simply thought it was the alternator. However, I was infuriated when the mechanic told us that the 2. 7l engines in the 1998-2001 had a design flaw, wherein an unreasonable amount of sludge build up occurs, preventing the oil from circulating through the engine, which would explain why there was very little oil on my dipstick. The mechanic couldn't give me a price on the cost of fixing the problem, mainly because out of all of the cases that he's seen with this same engine, there have been no fixes. I cannot begin to explain how inconvenient this is for me and my family. Both my wife and I are students who work. From what I've been reading, the repair/replacement of the engine can cost up to $9,000 dollars. At this point, that's more than the car is worth now, and we simply don't have the money for this type of expense.

29 Engine problem of the 2000 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

I went to start my vehicle one morning and it would not start. I had my brother and father in law whom are mechanics come take a look at it and they said the engine was filled with sludge. We then cleaned out the engine real good and changed all the liquids in it. It worked for approximately a month. I then got up in the morning to go to work and started my vehicle and went to my mothers down the road before work. On my way to work the engine started acting up and luckily I was just down the road from home. I went straight home and made it right before my Chrysler concord quit completely on me. I then had my brother in law again come look at it and he said the engine was toast and needed a new one. Now I had already replaced the motor approximately a year before this incident happened. Now I owe $8,000. 00 on this vehicle and can not drive it due to not being able to afford to replace the motor again. It sets in my drive as a lawn ornament now. Now the incident date below is an approximate date since this happened some time ago. But I know it was in the summer time after June of 2006.

32 Engine problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 04/08/2006

While on my way home from work at 2 am, I started to hear a loud "clunking" noise from the engine compartment on my 1999 Chrysler Concorde. I was on the highway, and the car rapidly decelerated to 25 mph. I managed to pull off into a rest stop, but didn't even make it into a parking spot before the engine quit. I found it amazing, since we just got the car back after $1600. 00 in repairs four months ago. Now, my mechanic is telling me that Chrysler only made these engines to last for up to 5 years at the most, and he's not surprised. Well, I am. A vehicle should last more than 5 years. Now the only option the mechanic tells me I have is to purchase a whole new engine and replace the old one.

33 Engine problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde
