Multiple times while stationary when starting the car, the push button starter will fail to start the engine. Upon second attempt to start the car the starter has a prolonged series of cranks and finally starts. The concern is this has happened multiple times after just purchasing the car. This could be a safety issue if it happens while driving, and engine shuts off, or could strand us without the the ability to start the car.
My van completely shut down while driving with my 2 kids in the car and would not start back up. It was not from the auto start/stop feature. The radio interior lights everything shut off. It would not even allow me to get it in n to push it. It was very scary because I was in the middle of a highway with my children. It is not my battery, alternator, or starter because I've had them tested. After speaking to multiple people and reading on the Chrysler forums this seems to be a common issue. If this issue persists I will be trading it in for a different make and model. Bummed because I absolutely love this van.
My car purchased in 2018 from reed Jeep chrylser in overland park kansas. In September of 2020, the vehicle was in hybrid/electric mode and stopped running as we were driving down the street. We were driving slowly and able to coast to the right side of the road and were able to safely leave it on a residential street. The car would not start and it was not an issue related to the starter or battery. We had the car towed to the dealership. The problem was reviewed by the engineering team with Chrysler and it was found to be a computer electrical hybrid component. Originally, Chrysler advised they had no replacement part anywhere in the country. After two weeks, they advised they would be able to get a component from the component manufacturer but that it would take time. The car remained in the service center for at least two additional weeks. They replaced the regular battery and performed recall on other components during this time as well. A little over a month later, the same failure/problem occurred. Fortunately, we were again on a residential street and leave it. A couple of hours later, we were able to start it and get it back to our residence. We tried to charge it using the 240v charger we had but the car would not take any additional charge even though not fully charged. Three days later, we returned the car to the dealership with the same complaint and were told that they could not find any problem with the car. Our overarching concern is safety, as there is no warning as to when the car will shut down.
Auto stop/start failed Monday morning. Died at an intersection. I was lucky. Didn't block the whole intersection, but only 1 lane. Stopped in front of a traffic light. I was the 1st vehicle of the line. The starter didn't start the engine when traffic light be green. The message of the vehicle guided me to turn to park, and to push the start. I did many times, short push, long push. I could hear the starter kicked in, but the engine refused to start. I stuck there. Turned on emergent flashers. I felt so frustrating and nervous about the car I purchased this year. Nice people tried helping to push the car to a parking spot, but I could not get it into neutral gear. Even though, I could turn the button it to neutral position. It was not real neutral. We could not push it. I tried to disconnect the battery. But I could not do it without the right wrench by the f**king new design. My son started crying. I called towing. I called my wife to get my son. More kind people tried to help me. One person even tried to towing my car away with his towing strap. But we abandoned because there is no towing hook found on the car. Finally, my wife arrived and rode my son to daycare. I went back into the car, and calmed down a little bit. I tried to turned the vehicle off. Brake. Turing to parking. Pushing start/stop button. I successfully turned the vehicle off. Took a deep breath, turned on the vehicle. Everything back in normal. I run the car away from the intersection, and called cancelling the towing service. The whole process took my more than half an hour. Hate auto stop start.
