Driving down interstate when the cruise cut out and the engine skipped. Pulled over to check engine fluids and all were ok. No engine warning lights or any other indication of something being wrong. Continued at approx 70 mph when there seemed to be an internal explosion within the engine causing the engine to stop and all front airbags to deploy. Vehicle then caught fire and was totally destroyed.

Air bag sensor light continued to come on and the dealership determined that the air bag sensor in the passenger seat was malfunctioning. The notification stated, "your vehicle's air bag warning light recently indicated the air bag system may not be working properly. The air bags in your vehicle might not inflate in a collision, or they could inflate without a collision if you do not get the required service. Have your vehicle checked at your dealership. " the replacement would cost over $300. Our Chrysler Pacifica is just out of warranty as it is a 2017 with 43,000 miles on it, so this sensor issue would not be covered. This seems like a possible recall considering it happened in a vehicle only 2. 5 years old.

The clockspring inside my steering wheel is broken - it controls my airbags - when the airbag warning light came on, I took it to the dealer. They told me that they can't repair it because the part is on national backorder - this means that when I drive my vehicle, I have no airbags. They had no estimate of when the parts would be available. I do not want to drive my vehicle without airbags.
