36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

There were many instances where the gauges would momentarily go to zero, and engine would almost quit, only to return to normal within a second or 2, in most cases. On rare occasion, engine would quit, and not restart for a while, then everything ok again. I found that I could duplicate the symptoms by quickly turning the key to "off" then back to "run", and by doing this quickly many times, the problem would not re-occur for a few weeks. Several trips to the dealer did nothing except cost me money. I have fixed the problem by replacing the start switch located in the bottom of the steering column. I had talked to Chrysler direct several times, and I would have thought they would be aware of this problem, and the remedy. I am most disappointed they were no help.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/27/2015

After starting and running normally for about 20 minutes, the vehicle will begin to exhibit electrical issues. The gauges will drop to zero and then slowly return, the warning lights will flash, and the warning chime will sound repeatedly. It seems like when this happens the engine goes through a start cycle. Most of the time, this problem is otherwise asymptomatic, but occasionally it results in sudden power loss to the engine. It does not seem to matter if the vehicle is moving or not; it happens if the vehicle is stopped, moving slowly, moving quickly, etc. The engine has lost power more than once at a critical moment (turning left, clearing an intersection) and multiple times in moving traffic.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/31/2015

Ok this is the 10th complaint filed on this vehicle both by myself and mechanics who have worked on it in last 6 months. My vehicle caught fire beside my house this morning at 6am. Nobody in car and the only thing that alerted me was when my dogs went out and were barking like crazy. I will have the fire investigator report on Monday or Tuesday. I suggest Chrysler who has all the same complaints as you do pay attention when you are told a car is unsafe. I could have lost everything this morning so Chrysler better be glad was just car. I am still shaking and I am a single disabled mom thank god fire department got here when they did. I want answers!.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

All lights on instrument panel flashes on-off. Sometimes the gauges will zero-out and go back to normal position. Sometimes when the lights flash and gauges zero-out, there will be a quick power loss. Maybe 2-3% of the time power loss will be substantial almost needed to pull over. More often than not, it seems to happen more in the heat and possibly rain or day after a heavy rain.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

The motor mount needs to be replaced for the 3rd time!.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/22/2015

This occurs all the time wether I am driving on residental road or on a highway going 70 mph. My car feels like it is losing power which it is. All the lights on my dash are lit up like a christmas tree and I have to pull over to the side of the road very carefully as I lose steering as well. Sometimes I can just restart the car and everything is fine, sometimes it is a few minutes and a few times it has taken a few hours. I have taken the car in to get the codes read but they tell me it is either the gas cap is loose or another issue with the fuel. I took it to my mechanic and they put it on their computer and got different readings. I was told it was a fuel vacuum problem which was corrected. I still have the issues. Now sometimes the engine jerks and pulls but I don't loose power. Mechanic is unable to find problem. Did not take to dealership after reading all the horror stories about paying dealers tons of money and still not having a working car. Also if I have more then one key on my keyring then the ignition switch doesn't work. If I limit my keyring to just my car key and house key then my car starts everytime and no cutting out while at complete stop like it has in the past. We bought the car used in July 2011 and it now has aprox. 66,000 miles.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Car went completely dead at car wash at night leaving me and my young granddaughter stranded until we could get a jump. This happened several times with the battery not having any problems nor any lights being left on in interior. Happened to notice the other day the fog lamps were on but the switch was not turned on. It was draining the system. Had to pull the fuse to fog lamps in order to stop the drainage. This has left me stranded with small children forcing reliance upon strangers in order to restart the vehicle, on more than one occasion. Now the fog lamps are inoperative until a fix can be found, which could lead to a potential collision if driving in foggy conditions which could prove fatal due to it being a convertible. This is a gt turbo edition.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Lights started flashing & car stopped on more then 1 occasion.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

Car stopped at red light. Engine died and smoke began to rise from engine compartment, then flames shot out. Driver could not get door open at first then after short time locks released and driver was able to escape. Fire department extinguished flames and said fire appeared to be started by fluid leakage. This model had been subject to recall due to fires. Car had recall fix on 9/23/04. It now appears the recall fixes were not permanent and the original problem can recur. It is potentially life threatening. Attempts to discuss the problem with Chrysler were unsuccessful. Chrysler stone walled and falsely rigged their response procedure so as to avoid any responsibility. Chrysler refused to allow me to speak with any person in a position of authority. The clerks I spoke with stated that someone would be in touch with me. Finally after three attempts to speak with someone at Chrysler, and after more than one month from original contact, a letter dated may 13, 2015 was received from Chrysler stating they had tried numerous times to contact us and the claim would be dropped if we did not respond in 10 days. This quite simply is a lie! no attempt was ever made to contact us, even after we contacted Chrysler on three occasions asking to speak with someone. The letter instructed us to contact dekra automotive to arrange an inspection. We did and gave them all the information once again. We offered to send photos of the damage but dekra was not interested. On may 27 we received a letter stating they were unable to inspect the car since it had been sold (salvaged) and were closing the file. Thus, Chrysler had created circumstances through obfuscation and manipulating the response time which they felt relieved them of any responsibility, even the need to discuss the issue with us. This fire hazard still exists.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While attempting to accelerate, the front end of the vehicle experienced severe vibration. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the motor mounts were faulty. The top motor mounts were replaced, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 68,000.

Like the other complaints, the dash gauges go bonkers and to zero, , engine stops, sometimes will restart other I have to put it in neutral and restart manually. 53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

Subframe cradle failure with crack through mounting. Dealer says "seen before" not under recall or investigation. Repair shop "has seen several with similar failure" some have resulted in suspension failure and accidents. Why is this not the subject of a recall? no one killed yet? repair to cost $1,400. 00.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser- the lights on my dashboard all light up along with all the warning alarms. Sometimes the car completely shuts off while driving above 30 mph - 65 mph in the city and on the highway then kicks back on within a few seconds. This problem has been on going. I have had professional mechanics look at my car with no luck or resolution to the problem. Luckily no accidents as of yet. I want to get rid of the car, but I don't want to be responsible in case an accident occurrs for someone else. I can't get it fixed if no one or Chrysler hasn't made the problem known to the public. I'm not the only one experiencing these issues. After a year long search I found 47 other complaints similar if not the very same issue I'm dealing with.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

Vehicle at 76,000 miles rides rough and during check up was found to have bad front bushings and three cracked engine mounts. Two licensed mechanics advised that this should not be happening to a single owner, never mistreated vehicle at that mileage. This was caught prior to a potential safety incident.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, there was a sudden loss on engine power as the electronic throttle control warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,740 and current mileage was 16,000.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

After driving for about 5 minutes and going about 35 mph the lights on the instrument panel went on and all the gauges went to zero. I didn't totally lost power but slowed down and the gauges popped back and the instrument lights came back on. It has continued to run ok for the last 3 days. Took it to the dealer and was told nothing could be done unless they could duplicate the problem. This exact same thing occurred on September 8, 2013 at a mileage of about 39,100. The car has run ok since up to this latest incident on June 1, 2014.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

My transmission will not go into the last gear and was slipping. Car has 38,000 miles on it and when I had it checked out the mechanic said there was a cellinoid bad in the transmission and when he replaced it the transmission still was not working properly by not changing gears and when he took the part back to the parts store he was informed that there was a problem with Chryslers transmissions. I had a town & country van several years ago and that transmission also was defective. Now I cannot get my money back from buying a part that really wasn't needed because the transmission it self is defective. My mechanic felt so bad about this that he checked the internet and discovered Chrysler has a problem with their transmissions. What rights or what can we do about this? I do not have monies to squander and I am still paying for my car. Thanks.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

Low voltage light came on, lost all power on the highway. I had to hit the shoulder quickly. I then tested code with key (3 clicks off/on) got code p0622 and p2403. . Towed to a shop, to find out the wires from alternator to the computer shorted out, it's a known problem, wiring harness runs along cv shaft and rubs against a bolt near the frame, thus shorting out the charging system and burning out the computer. So now the bill for repairs are almost $650. 00 and lucky we got off the highway in time, almost got hit by a semi cause we lost power so quick. I am glad we didn't get killed. If Chrysler and the government knows this is a problem why is there no recall. . . . . Or a safety warning.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

Solution! solution! solution! we had the same types of problems as the below problem entry and the first 4 problem entries following this one. Upon investigation, the problem was traced down to a faulty ignition key cylinder. The metal contact on the inside of the cylinder was deformed, thereby causing intermittent contact. When the ignition key cylinder was replaced, it completely solved all of the problems listed. All the dash lights will come on and blink. All gauges go to 0. Sometimes the engine will shut off for a few seconds (no power steering or brakes) then restart all by it's self. I can be parked in the garage or going down the road, that doesn't seem to matter. There's another vehicle in town like mine doing the same thing. The dealer has replaced parts with no positive results.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

Driving on freeway when all the engine lights on the dash light up, flicker, then go dead. Then the car loses power, including steering and brakes and cannot be controlled. It will start again later and will be ok for a few days or weeks when the problem re-occurs. Neither an independent mechanic nor Chrysler can find the problem. It happens without warning at any speed and circumstance. I managed to get video during one such episode on surface streets. This is similar to the problem gm is having and should lead to a recall before anyone is killed. I can't in good conscience sell the car, and am afraid to drive it but have no choice. This has happened to many other Pt Cruiser owners and Chrysler has turned a deaf ear to the problem.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

I first sent this complaint on Mar 7, 2014 and received an email reply acknowledging it, but since haven't heard anything. Is my complaint being taken seriously? it is a serious complaint as follows: on Feb 5, 2014, my 2001 Pt Cruiser shut down while it was being driven down a busy street. It didn't make a sputter or a sound, it just died. Luckily, it coasted long enough for me to pull off onto a quieter street and up against a curb. We had it towed to the automotive shop the explanation for the motor shutting down was alarming. The automotive tech reported the crankshaft position sensor needed replacing. As I understand, when this sensor goes bad, the engine automatically shuts down. With no warning. I had gas in my pt. I don't think people know about this; the tech said most cars that are 'newer' (as far back as 2002, at least) have this sensor. This is a serious safety concern and appears to be widespread. I looked through every page of my 2001 Pt Cruiser owner's manual and didn't find any indication that there would be a problem like this or that the crankshaft position sensor should be tested regularly, if it could be tested, that is. The national highway traffic safety administration would be doing the public a lifesaving service to look into the danger of this failed design, not to just replace them in all cars with a new one, but with one that is not designed to fail at the risk of the drive and anyone else in the vicinity when a moving car decides to just shut down. With no warning. There is not a time frame for this part to fail, but cars that are around my cruisers may be ready to give out. Please look into this dangerous situation. 64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

In jan14 my car wouldn't start, took to the dealer. April11 it took it back to dealer because it took 4 times to start the car. When started, while driving the elec panel lights wld randomly flicker, eng light often. Jul14 car back at dealer, all panel lights wld flicker while driving, car wld accelerate while driving and sounding like in wrong gear at 35mph, didn't get car back until aug08. One hour later, returned car to dealer car still accelerated while trying to stop at a four way intersection. Got car back 2 days later. Car accelerated on aug28, cut off while driving 30mph, dash lit up, gas gauge went full to empty, car launched forward and then started on its own again, this happened twice. Took car to dealer on aug29 and still have no car!!!! today is sept 11th. Each time the dealer would state nothing is wrong and no signs of anything. They would not listen nor record anything I told them on the paperwork, they continued to ignore everything I said. I have paid a lot of money to get the car fixed and it was not until this last time that I finally got a loaner to drive (two door fiat). A case manager from auburn hill, mi at the headquarters has contacted me, but still nothing has been done!!!!!!!!!!! now the dealer wants me to test drive the car with them, though I told them that it randomly happens. They continuously act like there is no problem, though I have found numerous complaints online regarding the same thing. Something needs to be done ASAP before people get seriously injured and/or lives lost. This is something that can not be swept under the rug. As a retired assembly line worker of car parts I find it interesting how my case and others have been handled. The lack of concern, accountability, follow through and resolution is done poorly.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

I got the car 6 months ago and have had nothing but problems. All the dash lights come on and the gauges go to zero. It has almost caused me to be in an accident, it died in the middle of a busy intersection, it has died while I'm stopped at a red light and happens at various speeds, I've replaced the, alternator, starter, gauge cluster and some other small things and nothing is working. I've seen a lot of people with the same problem, Chrysler should be doing something about this, I don't know what to do anymore with it, I'm not rich I can't afford a new car or to keep putting money into the car.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

I bought a Pt Cruiser sedan and the car lot I bought if from said it needed front shocks and it would be ready in two day. I pick up the Pt Cruiser and decided to take it to my mechanic and have it check out from top to bottom. It has over 100 mechanical issues, from shocks which were never put on. There is oil in the spark plugs and leaves a smell when the heater is on which makes us very ill. It is not safe to drive. Also, the car lot I bought it from which it was sold for around $2,000 dollars and needs over $3,000 dollars worth of work. Then I got slapped with an extra 5,000 from the loan company. This is a lemon. I am not paying for anything and him and I have went around and around about this piece of junk. They can repo it and then I am getting an attorney for selling me a car that should not be on the road. Too dangerous.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

While driving, the instrument warning lights start flashing off and on, the gauges drop to zero then com back up, and the engine falters sometimes and stops other times. When engine stops, power steering is lost. Car will start up again with starter.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 11/03/2013

Abs and stability control lamps illuminated, for the next week, the fault was intermittent. Workshop checked out fault, couldn't find fault with wheel sensors and couldn't reset fault. Developed into multiple instrument panel display indications, upto 10 flashing panel lights, and momentary power failure effecting all systems and engine. Internet including youtube states common problem not acknowledged by Chrysler. Some suggestions that ignition switch is fault but nothing certain. Car has only 37k miles so reluctant to start changing expensive electrical parts without guarantee of repair, I. E. Abs computer ecu, instrument pack etc. Looked at recent recall for gm, my Pt Cruiser cabriolet was manufactured in mexico in 2007. The parts involved in gm recall are delphi from mexico between 2005-7. Is this the same problem? please note I live in england, great britain so the zip and daytime phone number are from beverley hills! use 00447768911486 number which is uk cell phone, thanks, phil.
