The contact also stated that there was an odor and evidence of smoke coming from the steering wheel. Afterwards, the contact was able to turn the fog lights off and the odor dissipated. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

2 Fog Lights problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/12/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving at approximately 30 mph with the fog lamp illuminated, the contact noticed a burning smell. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where a switch in the steering column was replaced. Some time later, the contact was unable to turn off the fog lights. She called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 56,000. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

Fog lights will not turn off. They turned on while car was parked and off. On several occasions I came out to my car after car was parked all night and the battery was dead. Once the batterywas charged and returned to car fog lights were still on, the only way to turn them off was to remove the fuse.

4 Fog Lights problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Consumer owned three 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruisers. Each of the vehicles had problems with the fog lights and turn signal light switch , which was replaced free of charge when one vehicle was out of warranty and the fog lights and headlights stayed on and would not go off. The second and third cruisers fog lights would not go off, consume r removed the fuse. There was a flaw in the design of the Pt Cruisers headlight switch, which would run down the battery. The switch should be replaced at no charge to the consumer. Also, there should a be a redesigned switch, and a full recall/replacement after the switch was redesigned. In order to have two Pt Cruisers pass va state inspection consumer removed fog lights bulbs, socket and wiring.
