4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

I bought a 2001 Pt Cruiser and within a couple of weeks the headlights stopped working. Replaced multi function switch but did not help. Had to re-wire the lights to make them work. Also it sounds like the passenger side front tire has something loose. Possibly bushings?? I've seen several complaints about the lights. What is it gonna take to get a recall in place? we got a ticket for it.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/24/2009

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) malfunction on the headlight/foglight multifunction switch on a Chrysler Pt Cruiser 2005, [xxx] (export vehicle, runs in brazi). It started unwittingly turning on the foglights even when the car ignition was off, it lead to drain car batteries and for me to think at first that was a problem with my battery, since when I saw the car the foglights were off because it drained the power. Then, after a hot day I was driving at night on a rainy and dangerous highway and my foglights went off and I felt a smell of burn cable and smoke inside the car, so I stopped the vehicle and saw smoke coming out ofthe multifunction switch and got really scared. After so many days and searching on the internet I finally discovered that the battery drain had to do with the foglights switch. I took almost 6 months to discover it and so my foglights reflector started to melt and loose there flexibility. I went to Chrysler dealers in brazil and they said they cant do nothing for me since the car is no longer in warranty. The thing is, there is more than 550 complaints (and counting) on a website explaining the problem and what the many dangerous possible consequences. And 95% of the cars in those complaints are not under warranty from Chrysler manufacture. Now I actually run with the car without the fuse responsible to foglights. It cost me a brand new battery and 2 damaged foglight reflectors and the obligation of running without foglights on highways. . Read more...

6 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

The turn signal/headlight control switch on my 01 Pt Cruiser has failed in that my right hand turn signal to the front does not come on. I have investigated this and been told by Chrysler personnel that the probable cause is turn signal/headlight control switch on the steering column. This part is in backorder to the tune of approx 4600 parts and an after market company that I contacted said they are also in approx 30days backorder status trying to fill the need for replacements. In checking with on-line forums I've also found out that other problems with this particular switch involve headlight failure to operate and lights (fog lights) coming on without operator action. I believe this is a critical component failure and needs to be brought to someone's attention that there is a high probability of switch failing "un-announced" and causing serious injury not only to the operator of the Pt Cruiser but to other vehicle operators as well.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Faults within the headlight/foglight multifunction switch on the 2001 Pt Cruiser causes the foglights to illuminate, even when the switch is off. I replaced the switch, and although the foglights now work properly, there is now a fault in the dome light function, which causes the dome light to illuminate when the switch is off. I researched the component on-line and retrieved reports of headlights turning themselves off at random intervals. Headlights, foglights, dashboard illumination, dome light and turn signals are all in the same component. For foglight defect, mechanic removed the appropriate fuse from the fuse panel as a temporary fix.
