Passenger airbag lite and sensor goes off with no one sitting in seat and if someone is in seat it goes off. It seams as if there is a short in a wire. Others I have read after have had this same problem.

Possible airbag or electrical defect on 2002 Pt Cruiser touring edition. I was driving up the road in my 2002 cruiser with approximately 40,000 miles on it, which has not been involved in an accident, and the airbag light came on my dash. I have had my car in the shop several times and after approximately $800. 00, my light is still on. The airbag assembly and airbag module have been replaced and it has not remedied the problem.

- the contact owns a 2006 Pt Cruiser. The department of consumer affairs advised the contact to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The contact was in a car crash while driving 50 mph , another vehicle caused the crash. The front driver side fender and the axle were damaged. The contact was injured, and none of the air bags deployed during the crash. The dealer expected her to drive the vehicle after repairing it,but the contact didn't feel that the vehicle was safe. Daimler Chrysler engineers have taken pictures of the vehicle , and stated they would contact the driver within 72 hours. There was notification via mail which stated that someone would contact her in 12 business days.
: the contact stated while backing out of a parking space at 3-5 also, the airbag light illuminated, and the horn failed. Although the dealership was contacted, and repairs were made. Updated 06/05/2006.
My 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser, gt model, has had problems since I have had it. First, the engine light came on and they replaced a hose, then it came on again, and they said they didn't know what was wrong with, and they would have to wait until it went completely out. It did, at 28,000 miles, it was the turbo charger. Secondly, the airbag malfunctioned, they had to replace the seat, took three times to get the right seat. Third, now, I would put the car in drive or reverse, and it just sit there, then jerks into gear. Sometimes if you give it gas it would just rev up. They said it was the pump in the transmission, they took 4 plus days to replace it. When I picked it up I heard a noise and smell something burning. When I took it out there they didn't hear or smell anything so I was sent on my way. Then it started doing the same thing it did when you put it in reverse or drive. I took it in, he said it needed a battery. I put a diehard battery in it, but sears said that was not the problem. Then the check the engine light came on, they said it was the evac pump. They fixed that. They claimed that was not covered under the warranty I had when I brought it in two weeks before. Now, I hear a grinding when I start the car up, someone said it sounds like the flywheel and they didn't assemble the transmission correctly, and that was probably where the burning smell was coming from. I am taking it in to the shop today for this.

Contact stated the air bag warning light came on intermittently. Also, it made noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on numerous occasions. They were unable to duplicate the problem. The air bag module was replaced. Updated 01/11/06.
My airbag light has come on and the dealer says I need the entire module replaced. Vehicle has never been in an accident or bump of any kind. The module is not covered by the warranty. Why must the entire module be replaced. Isn't there a repair?.
After starting my engine, my airbag lite came on and never went off. Everytime I have started my car since, the light comes on and stays on until the engine is turned off.
I was involved in a single car, front end collision, in which I hit a concrete structure head on at approx 45 mph. The airbags, neither driver or passenger, deployed, resulting in my hitting my head. I feel this is a defect and surely a great enough force to deploy the airbags. Dealer says it was simply that the sensors were not triggered. What more does it take to trigger the sensors?.
While driving airbag warning light appeared on the dashboard intermittently.
