Center of steering wheel (where airbag is located) became so hot that it could not be touched with your bare hand. Pulled over and got out of the vehicle and turned vehicle off. Waited until it cooled down to normal temperature then got back in and restarted vehicle and moved seat all the way back from the steering wheel just in case. The heating phenomenon did not recur in the short drive home (5-10 minutes). Has not happened again. Scheduling a visit to local dealer to determine if this is a known problem. Nothing found on Chrysler recall information and email to Chrysler got no response. This is a 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser with package 28g that included supplemental side airbags.

9/1/06 as I was parking my car my drivers side air bag deployed . After several phone calls and emails to Chrysler's customer service division, there was no reply. On 9/29/06, my passenger side airbag deployed, as well as my passenger side seat belt locked up while I was driving 50 miles an hour. That day I called Chrysler again and an investigation was created. After the investigation Chrysler found no responsibility on their part. I submitted a claim into my insurance company, and they found the defect to be a manufacturers defect, and will not cover the deployed air bags or locked seat belt. At this time there has been no reparation.

I'm not sure if my side airbag should have deployed or not. I was hit in an intersection on the front quarterpanel drivers side. The impact was over the front tire towards the front. I don't think the airbag would have helped any, but I just wanted to know if it should have deployed for safety reasons in the future. I would like to know under what conditions would my side airbag deploy. Thanks.
