1 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2009 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/24/2020

Sporadic instrument cluster powers on and off illuminating all lights. When condition occurs it is vastly distracting unable to determine vehicle speed accurately. When the issue is present the engine will typically shut off. This seems like an incredibly bad condition to allow in a vehicle and contacting Chrysler led to no solution for resolving. Internet search suggests this is not a one off situation and exists across several model years. Chrysler does have a recall notice "01v288000" for model year 2001 which appears to be very similar in nature. Due to the highly distracting nature of this condition and frequency of similar owner reports it seems particularly egregious that a recall notice does not exist.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

When driving vehicle the steering capability occasionally seizes and vehicle cannot be turned for a few moments. This is very dangerous since it can happen at a turn in the road. Also, at stop lights the car tries to jolt forward. Again this is occurs at inconsistent times. Additionally the car dies in idle when the temperature outside rises above 60 degrees. The check engine light came on and when code was read it stated the cooling system was in need of repair. Upon further investigation into the issue we found the fan worked but was not being switched on. So we replaced the fan switch. Immediately it blew the switch. The mechanics cannot identify the issue. While additional codes just get thrown into the pile. After some research I found that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I check often to see if something has been recalled or if anyone has found a solution that provides lasting change but I have not found any advice or solution that actually fixes the issue. These issues are reoccurring so I am stating the last occurrence which was just this morning.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

For all you Chrysler Pt Cruiser lovers! problem solved today! dashboard lights repeatedly go on and off, engine stalling while driving or idling, I have a 2006 and have been plagued with this issue for a few years now. Dealer mechanics are idiots who go for the big ticket items and hope that solves the problem. This problem for me, was caused by a faulty key ignition module, in the steering wheel. Internal parts are loose and fail to keep an electrical connection. A $60-90 retail part. Easily replaced by anyone who can use a torx screwdriver. You will get a new key to start the car with but it does not include a skip anti-theft rf module, so just keep the old key on the chain to open your car doors with. Now, how about Chrysler man up and fix all these including providing new rf keys so I don't need to keep 2 on my chain. My original complaint: NHTSA id number: 10823650 tipm already replaced 1x for same issues occurring again now, a few years later and for at least the last 8 months from this posting, occurring more and more frequently now and last time occurring was Feb 01, 2016. All dash / engine status lights come on for no reason, then off seconds later, occurring anytime while engine is running. Engine stalls - sputtering, power steering and breaks fail to work properly during this time, fuel level gauge wildly fluctuates and smell of gas is noticeable, all causing a dangerous situation when at highway speeds. Head lights and interior lights randomly go bright or dim for a fraction of a second. Dealership unable to diagnose as it does not stay broke long enough for their techs to diagnose with their equipment even after having the car for 2 full days, despite this problem seen visually by dealer and on video recording. Suspect tipm / ecm, integrated voltage regulator is at fault. . .

Suspect tipm / ecm, integrated voltage regulator is at fault. Extended warranty refuses to replace without a certified diagnosis by authorized repair shop. 2nd major problem with 4 engine mounts needing replacement several times, more than 10 mount replacements during life of my car, so far. 3rd major problem, transmission sometimes will not auto shift gears in a timely manor, taking up to 4 seconds to engage drive or other from park setting. I have the entire life of vehicle paperwork on all repairs and regular maintenance done for this car. Hoping there is a class action lawsuit I can get in on for this problem, seen reported numerous times on various forums like this dot site.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

I unlocked my car doors with remote, and drove to the store, it was dark out so I had my head lights on. When I came out of the store and tried to unlock my car, it would not work. So I manually unlocked the doors with my key. It was very cold weather at that time and my heater would not work as well then I turned on my car to go home, and my lights would not come on. And so I was towed home. The next day I took it in to a Chrysler repair shop and they did a quick check on it and said that it might be the electrical and they would have to go through the entire electrical to find the problem. They checked everything out without tearing the entire car apart and said that they could not find a problem with it. There went $100. 00 of my money to find out that they could not find the problem. I don't know what else to do to get the car repaired with out having to spend $1,000. 00 plus. . . . Which is a quote by the Chrysler repair. I have not been able to drive my car at night, due to no lights and now that we have hot 90 to 101 degree weather, I can not drive my car during this period of time due to not being able to use the air conditioner or to roll my windows down. I have spent over $3,000. 00 in repairs for my car and I have only had it for just two years. There is one thing after another with my car, the problems are having to replace parts and sometimes having to replace those same parts a year later when they have just ran out of the warranties. I have service records for all of these problems and it is almost 2 inches thick. I am on disability and it took me over a year to save the enough money to buy this car and I have no more money to fix it again. . . And I have to take it through deq here in oregon and it will not pass their test due to exhaustion problems with the emissions leaking as well.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/29/2011

On Saturday morning, at about 11:40 am, the temperature was 31 degrees f, and I'd noticed the dew point was at 33 degrees, according to accu-weather. It was somewhat sunny, and there was very little frozen precipitaion floating through the air. We had just left home and drove two miles through stops and starts through local residential roads. After turning left at a stop sign after driving about 1. 5 miles, the road went into a straightaway. I gently accelerated, as I usually do. The speed control was not turned on. My wife and I shortly noticed that after the usual 30-35 mph speed, that the car continued to accelerate. I checked the speed control-off. Checked the gas pedal-swinging free. Lifted the pedal with my shoe edge-no change. Tapped the brake a few times-brake operated, but no change. As I was approaching a stop sign, I stomped on the brake with both feet until I reached about 10 mph. At that point I slipped the transmission into neutral and switched off the engine. The car stopped. I got out and checked the gas pedal and floor mat-both were clear. When I tried to restart the engine, it started, and then slowed, then sputtered and finally quit. After quitting it would not restart. I called chryser warranty service for a tow. The towing service was delayed. We waited about an hour and 15 minutes, checked the eta of the tow truck when told it might be a couple of more hours, I retried the ignition, and that time the engine restarted as if nothing had happened. I drove about a mile to a nearby gas station (to wait for the tow in a safe place) with no incident. The dealer could find no problem when inspecting the following Monday. They drove 19 miles, no problem. No fault codes or TSB's. Cable not frayed. Throttle blade and gas pedal not binding. I suggest that it is possible that icing could have occured around the throttle plate, since the air was near the dew point on a hardly warm engine. After the engine sat over an hour, the ice could melted.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/21/2007

My Pt Cruiser since I have owned it burns oil prior to 3,000 miles due oil change. Chrysler claims "it is normal for this car to burn 1 quart of oil every 1,000. Miles. They refuse to check in between oil changes that this is in fact happening.
