1 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/07/2008

I have had nothing but trouble with my 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser, but the final straw is when, after filling the gas tank and starting it - the car backfired and blew the plugs. Cost to replace $2,900. 00. This happening right after I spent $1,400. 00 to replace bushings and tie rods. Chrysler corporate asked me to take it to one of their dealers in which I did. Chrysler corporate nor the dealer will discuss the factory defect stating no know reason for a vehicle to blow two plugs when it only has 81,000 miles on it.

2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/14/2004

Consumer noticed excessive amount of oil in the air filter box, and an oil stained filter. The oil pressure light came on intermittently, back soot on the tail pipe, and there was a distinguished mechanical knocking noise coming from the engine at idle. Vehicle had been in repair shop 3 times. On the third time the oil pressure sensor was replaced, but the knocking noise and excessive oil problem was still present. Upon investigation of the problem, consumer found that an improper machine part, that was related to the valve train/camp shaft, caused the problem. But, manufacturer didn't have a solution for it. If this part failed while driving at highway speeds it could result in engine failure followed by rapid deceleration which could result in an accident. This vehicle was equipped with traction control.

4 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/05/2001

Depending on driving conditions, vehicle burns oil at the rate of approximately one quart every ~600 to ~1000 miles. If the vehicle is driven mostly on expressways, the oil consumption is greater than if driven primarily on surface streets. I first brought this problem to the attention of the daimlerchrysler (DC) dealership at 9,770 miles, though I had noticed it earlier. At 9770 miles, I told the dealer that the car had consumed 1 quart of oil in 1,000 miles. On a subsequent trip to the dealer, the vehicle consumed 1 quart in just 616 miles. Under warranty and over several service visits, the dealership replaced the pc valve twice and replaced one valve stem and 3 valves, all vallve seals, machined the heads and replaced the warped exhaust manifolds. The last time the vehicle was in for this problem, the dealer had it 15 days. The vehicle still burns oil at the same rates as before. Dealer wants to replace the short block. Dc has offerred to repurchase vehicle but we cannot agree on the price. I am suing undr California's lemon law.
