My car shut down completely as I was driving, the steering wasn't working, I couldn't turn the wheels at all. The breaks would not work either, no matter how hard I pressed on the breaks the pedal would not move. Luckily I wasn't going fast or driving on the highway cause that would have killed me.

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Sebring. While driving various low speeds with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated. The contact applied excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the battery was replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times and the vehicle barely missed crashing into other vehicles each time. On another occasion, the engine continued to run after the key was removed from the ignition. The key was re-inserted, but the engine did not stop. The contact pressed hard on the brake pedal and the engine shut off. The contact stated that this failure occurred once and was diagnosed. The contact called northland Chrysler Jeep Dodge at 248-398-8200 (located at 14100 eight mile rd, oak park, mi 48237) and the contact was informed that a diagnostic test was recommended. Start car, when in idle it shuts off with in a few seconds of hitting gas now. It use to idle and I would have to rev a little so it would not turn off. That worked for a little bit today to broke down. Luckily in my drive way this time instead of the middle of road like last week. Why is my car doing this?.

As I was slowing for a red signal at an intersection, my engine shut off as if I turned off the key. It didn't shudder or give any indication that there was difficulty with the engine performance, it simply ceased running. I read a ap article on the Chrysler 200 engine stall in this mornings paper and noted that motor being investigated by your agency was the same motor that is in my Sebring. I wanted to notify you of my problem to make a written record in the event that the problem continues or exacerbates and there is a need for me to bring my vehicle to the dealership for the problem repair.

I was riding slow through my neighborhood about 15-20 miles per hour and the car just shut off, that was the first time!it had happened many times since then and also just like many others on here have stated, the car seem like it is about to shut off while im sitting at a light then all of a sudden it jumps forward almost causing me to rear end someone, that happens quite a bit or it shuts off while idling. Oddly no one knows why??this car needs to be recalled before people start getting seriously hurt or die.
Vehicle shuts off while driving it, 1st. Time I was going about 30mph it shut off without warning. Next time I was reversing in driveway and it just shut off. Both times put in park and restarted. Dealership tried to duplicate problem and put it on computer, but nothing shows up. It was a couple months in between episodes.
I have 2007 Chrysler Sebring that stalls on me while I am driving. Just last week I was yielding onto i95 and that car shut off, it almost cause a very serious accident. I have taken it to the dealer ship and they claim that there is nothing wrong with it. I know there is something wrong because I have read alot of consumer reviews on this car and alot of people have the same issue.
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible that I had would just shut off on me when I was driving or if I was at a stop light. I was not hard on the car and I drove it regular. One day I was stopped in the middle of lunch hour traffic and the light was red, I went to push the gas and realized the car had shut off on me. It didn't seem like it stalled because if a car usually stalls it would shake or something. The car just turned off at the red light and when the light went green I couldn't go. I was stuck in the middle of traffic and had to have people go around me. I didn't know if I put the car in park I could go again. I didn't expect it to just shut off on me in the first place it was a newer car. It has happened more than once. I am just thankful one of the other times I was in a parking lot with my kids in the car.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway. The road conditions were not a factor. The failure occurred while exiting off of the highway. The contact struggled to maintain control of the vehicle. He was informed that a new engine would be needed at the cost of $3,000. The failure occurred without warning. The contact did not want to restart the engine because there was too much oil all over the engine and hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic and he stated that the failures were caused by a jump timing and faulty parts. There were no crashes, injuries, or property damage done to the vehicle. The vehicle is still at the repair shop, but no repairs have been made. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 112,000.

Life threatening safety issue to my 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Approx 2-3 mos ago while driving the engine cut off without any warning what so ever. 3 weeks ago (from 15jan09) this happened while on I-95. When this happens you can not steer or use brakes. The car coasted in the direction that is was steering in. This lead my car half in the grass and half in the middle of the lane. Again, no warning of anykind. This Monday (12jan09) it happened while I had my kids in the car, I was about to turn when the engine shut down again. This was a reality check since my kids could have been injured (luckily no one was coming). I have taken my car to the dealership and twice they have run diagnostics, looked it over thoroughly, and driven the car twice without being able to duplicate the problem. Today they have told me they have talked to the Chrysler engineers who stated they have heard of the problem but have no solution. I have found multiple complaints as mine off the internet dated as far back as April 2008. I have called Chrysler's customer service number twice as well. This has been no help at all. Today, after telling them what was told to me by the technicians, they said they would forward my case on and I would here back from someone in two-four business days. In the meantime, I am to continue to drive my car. I just can not believe that Chrysler would knowingly put someone in a life threatening situation. I don't know what to do but I need your help. In the meantime I am in a rental car that I am paying for and have to turn back in tomorrow (16jan09) when I pickup my Sebring. I can not afford to pay for a rental car and make my car payment as well. Please help me!.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Sebring. While driving on June 21, 2008 there was smoke present under the hood. After approaching a traffic light the vehicle shut off and a large amount of smoke was coming from the engine. She observed that the engine compartment and the under side of the vehicle was on fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire after three attempts. The vehicle was towed. The dealer confirmed with the contact that there were no recalls related to her VIN. The dealer instructed the tow truck company to bring the vehicle to them; however, the dealer later advised them to take the vehicle away since the damage was so massive. The dealer also stated that the contact would have to wait until Monday to obtain a rental car. The dealer later informed the contact that they would not provide her with a rental car until an investigator inspected the vehicle. An investigator has not inspected the vehicle since the fire occurred. The failure and current mileages were 32,000.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. While driving 60 mph, the contact heard a loud bang and the vehicle shut off. As of December 26, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 82,249.
2004 Chrysler Sebring touring sedan with a 2. 7l engine shuts off when car is decelerating. The car started malfunctioning with about 35,000 miles on it, it now has about 69,000 miles. The problem was intermittent, but now it happens more frequently. I have had it checked out but the technician could not figure it out nor are there any codes associated with the problem. Please help. Thanks,
jimmy l. Atkins, jr.

The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler Sebring. While driving 60 mph, the contact heard a noise similar to that of a tire failure and then the engine shut off. There was no power steering and all of the warning lights illuminated. She attempted to restart the vehicle and all of the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a gas station. The mechanic observed that there were metal fragments in the oil pan. The manufacturer issued reference number 16870242 and stated that because she is the third owner of the vehicle and has no warranty, they could not be of assistance. The fuel system and powertrain were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 86,000.
