55 problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The airbag light would not go off. I took the van back to the dealer, and they replaced the clock spring and charged me over $330. They told me it was not covered under our extended warranty. I will be happy to send or e-mail a copy of the bill to you. Thanks.
This part is failing on alot of vans according to the service department o moser Dodge . When this part failed we were trying to warn another car that pulled out in front of us by using the horn thats when we heard a pop and the air bag light went on. When this happens you lose your horn, airbag, and cruse control. I believe this to be a safty issue and a defective design as there is nothing an owner can do to cause this condition. The dealer would not return the old parts when asked to do so. Hope you look into this problem. Thank you.
Consumer was traveling 55mph and another vehicle cut in front, causing a head on collision. Front airbags didn't deploy. Consumer and passenger sustained major injuries. Both vehicles were totaled. Weeks before accident, consumer had been back and forth complaining that airbag light was going on and off, and horn stopped working. Dealer didn't have a remedy as to why the abs light was coming off.
The airbag light on the dash panel comes on and stays on most of the time now. Ocasionally, it goes off. I am very concerned that the airbags may not work properly in case of a crash.
Airbag light kept coming on and stayed on while driving. Consumer felt that airbag may not go off in an accident. Took vehicle to dealer and , and they found that clock spring was defective.
The air bag light would come on constantly and would stay on. Also, horn failed to operate properly when used and windshield wipers would come on & off by themselves whenever the turn signal was in use. Problem is intermittent& has been happening for two years.
Air bag light illuminated due to failure of the clock spring on two occasions.
1)transmission failure - codes 36, 53, 54 found in system. Seals & clutches, carrier gears & trs sensor replaced. Transmission assembly disassembled for recondition. 2)driver side air bag - clock spring assembly replaced to correct air bag light.
When turning vehicle on, engine chimes ring and it keeps ringing intermittently. Also, airbag light comes on. Dealer attempted to fix however did not remedy problem.
Both problems are perennial, in form I could not specify. Air bag light is always on and may fail in an accident; horn, by not working may not prevent an accident, it almost happened once already; cruise control is an inconvenience not having. Wipers go on by themselves, specially when turning on the blinkers. At times wipers don't stop and may divert your attention from traffic, it could be a dangerous situation.
Consumer had clock spring and air bag module replaced because of concerns with the air bag light being on.
Airbag light was on intermittently and stays on, performed diagnostics, no codes present and could not get light to come on, also coolant leak at hose at rear leaf spring, replace rear coolant tube-rubbed through on spring,.
Cruse control failure and air bag light at same time.
Cruse control and horn quit working when air bag light came on.
Air bag light is on, horn and, cruise control do not work. Driver side passenger door lock failed.
Horn is not active/ cruise control doesn't work, and air bag light is illuminating on dash panel. Dealer has been contacted, and was willing to replace clock spring for a fee.
While traveling noticed air bag indicator light on, no power steering or horn. Technician stated that clock spring needed to be replaced. Please provide further information.
Air bag light stays on, horn and cruise control inoperable. Dt.
The air bag light would illuminate intermittently, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who informed them that the air bag was not operatimg properly and would not have inflated during an accident due to a faulty clock spring, the consumer feels that the manufacturer should pay for this repair. Nlm.
Air bag light illuminated on dashboard. Consumer contacted dealer. Dealer stated that clock spring had short circuited which could cause air bag to deploy without a cause or not deploy with a cause. Clock spring was replaced. The consumer believes the rpair should be the responsibility of the manufacturer.
