46 problems related to steering have been reported for the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
2006 Town & Country minivan makes a loud whining sound when cold outside and the steering fluid needs to be filled abnormally often. This happened daily until I checked a car repair website and they told me to check the fluids and when we did we saw that the steering fluid was very low. Since then my husband checks it weekly and fills it when needed. I haven't taken it in (because we can't afford a large repair bill) the research I have done on-line shows that this is an ongoing problem with this make and model. . . Why hasn't there been a recall yet??? help, this vehicle is our family car and we carry our children in it. . We are still paying off this car. . . One more year. . . . Please help us and make them finally issue a recall. . . . . . Don't let the big car makers get away with treating us like this. . . .
Failed power steering rack at 45k miles. Whining noise worse at start up and cold temperatures. . Read more...
My 2006 Chrysler town and country has a whine in the steering. After researching on-line and talking to local mechanics this is a very common and costly issue. The minimum cost I have found is around $800. Chrysler to my knowledge has not stepped up and addressed this. A 2 yr. Old vehicle should not have this problem.
Parked car at foodlion car engine catch on fire local fire department came out to put out the fire. Fire department stated it was the power steering line or transmission line that caught on fire which in turn caught the back of the motor on fire.
I own a 2006 Chrysler town and country van. I noticed a whining moaning sound coming from the front of the car. I took it in to Chrysler today and was told it was the reservoir power steering. This van only has 42,000 miles on it. I have been looking on the internet and there are many mant posts about the same problem that leads to bigger problems. . . Like the steering rack. I think this issue needs to be addressed by Chrysler and a recall issued. These vehicles should not be doing this over and over. I do not drive the van rough or excessively. I am a mother of 3 children. We just drive. This repair was not even covered on the extended warranty. That makes no sense. Please look into this and make Chrysler do something about it.
My 2006 town and country had to have power steering worked on in the first year of owning it , but was covered under warranty. . . Just soo everyone's aware if the dealers mechanics see a problem under the hood, but you don't complain about it they aren't allowed to mention it . So that means if you had your car into dealer and they saw there was something wrong with your powersteering, but you don't complain they will not go out of their way to tell you about the problem.
Purchased 2006 tc Chrysler in November 2006. At approximately 43k miles, December 2007, the powering steering began whining. Vehicle was determined by Chrysler to need a new rack for the steering, new hoses, new steering resavor etc. . Costing over $1,500. I was advised that my warranty was expired.
1. I did nothing unusual or potentially destructive. 2. The right front ball joint has worn "loose"-will not satisfy me inspection in the vehicle's third year. If it lets go, it could cause an accident, which on the road or turnpike could cause injury and/or death to one or more vehicle occupants. 3. I am going to take vehicle back to dealer for replacement--it is only 27 months old and still under warranty.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. While turning or merging to the right, the steering freezes. On October 29, 2007, the contact was nearly struck head on by oncoming traffic when the steering wheel froze in place. The failure usually occurs at intersections where water drains off the road or when driving over a pot hole; however, it always occurs when steering to the right. The dealer stated that it was a design flaw. The contact is filing a law suit under the lemon law. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 18,200.
Issue #1: as I was driving on a rainy day and went through a puddle, I lost steering capability. The wheel just stayed in the same place that I was going in. . . Imagine that happening while trying to turn. . . Accident waiting to happen. . . I took it back to where I bought the vehicle and was told nothing is wrong with my van. I took it to another dealer and they said I have to go back to the place I bought it to get work done on it. . . . For years I took it in to no avail. . . Then as I made 60k miles I did a tune up on my van and changed the serpentine belt even though it did not need it and you won't believe it. . . My issue had went away. . . I didn't know I was supposed to go behind the maker and make sure my vehicle's nuts and bolts are secured on a new vehicle! issue #2: the passenger side air bag has a recall, but local dealer won¿t fix it, my dealer won¿t fix it saying I passed my 36k warranty miles¦what gives? I need it fixed! issue #3: as I was driving 65mph on a hwy, my van shuts off¦stunded¦ I drift to the shoulder to restart and be on my way¦this has happened may times¦if I have anymore that the van key in the starter then it turns my ignition off¦I need this fixed¦this is an accident waiting to happen just like Ford and just like the ones Chrysler has just recalled.
When I drive my 2006 Chrysler town and country through a puddle or in a heavy downpour, my power steering goes out. The belt slips and squeals for quite a while before the power steering starts working again. I haven't been able to find a dealer or mechanic that knows how to fix the problem. My wife and I have both driven off the road due to this issue.
