I have an abs module for my 2008 Chrysler town and country van that has gone bad. All of the warning lights came on for the brake system (abs, brake, esp/bas, traction). I took it to my local garage and they said that it was a bad abs module and only the dealer could replace it because it needed to be re-programed. I took it to the dealer who also did a diagnostic and said that it was bad and needed to be replaced. But the part has been discontinued and they cannot find the part any where else. No other dealer has them. This sounds like a safety concern to me. The car does not have abs and cannot be fixed. Can you do anything to force Chrysler to start making this part. It is not safe to drive on slippery roads and will lead to accidents and possibly deaths. Please help. Thank you, garrett.
Abs/tcs/ebp/esp warning lights all illuminate during system check at 8mph. Diagnostic code c2200 - internal module fault. Ongoing issue. Appears to be ambient temperature related. Internet+forum searchs find this exact condition very common on 2008 model Chrysler minivan. Requires abs controller replacement with has been discontinued by mopar. 2008 was the only model year to utilize this particular part number. 68030939aa. Superseded by 68030939ab.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that he had received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 20v396000(air bags). The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they were able to replace the air bag but not the emblem. The contact then moved to iowa where he had the emblem replaced at kriegers Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram(3205 us-61, muscatine, IA 52761) under the same recall. After the emblem was replaced, the air bag warning light would intermittently appear on the instrument panel. He also stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes would engage independently as both the abs and traction control warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed him that the cause of the failure was a result of a faulty air bag replacement. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was given an appointment for a diagnostic. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
This has happened to us three times in the last three weeks. Shortly after starting the car we traveled less than a mile at about 25 mph and the engine suddenly turned off causing the power steering and breaks to fail. The van restarted one we put it in park and continued to work fine after that. We were driving in a crowded neighborhood where children play at the time.
My vehicle will shut off while I'm driving. It's been an ongoing issue. There are no lights that come on, on the dashboard that indicate any error, except the antilock break light will occasionally light up. I could be driving slow or fast, it makes no difference, it will just shut off, and the power steering and brakes lose power and don't work. This is very dangerous and can easily cause an accident. I have done some research online and have also seen this exact same problem with hundreds upon hundreds of other consumers with the same make and model. People have taken their vehicles to Chrysler dealerships and mechanics and no one can figure out the cause. This is a huge safety issue. I have small children, 2 still in carseats, and my youngest who is 1 is handicap. I am scared to drive it. I still owe $10,000 on my auto loan for this car, so I am stuck with it. It seems like this is a defective vehicle, since so many others are having the same mystery safety issue.
While traveling at speeds less than 40 mph, and typically within 5 minutes of starting, the vehicle will shut down all power (engine, electrical, and brakes) while driving, making it very hard to stop the vehicle, and very dangerous . I have taken it to the dealer and they stated it was overheating and result of the coolant system leaking, which we had them fix, and problem continues to occur. There was no way it was overheating that quickly after starting. Dealer has refused to look at other postings online that suggest this is a prevalent problem, and unrelated to the coolant system.
The cars alarm goes off and winshieild wipers and sqirts windsheild washer fluid when car is off and only way to make it stop is disconnecting the battery. Also when we were on tge expressway the windsheild wipers went off and the minivans brakes went on by themselves.
Vehicle stops running at random. It has happened numerous times driving at any and all speeds, cutting out power steering and brakes while at speeds of 55 mph making it extremely hazardous.
2008 Chrysler town and country sutting off instantly, numerious times at 20 to 30 mpr while driving on city streets, 40 to 50 mph on service streets, at speed, starting to slow, and or attempting a left or right turn. This is an intermittent problem. Dealer has had van 3 weeks, said they drove twice to simulate and could not repeate. Extreamly dangeriou s, almost rear-ended more than once.
While in motion, the electrical system and engine will suddenly turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. This happens with no warning while driving at highway speed on the highway. This has happened multiple times. I have no choice but to drive it this way.
While in motion on a city street the vehicle's engine, power steering, and brakes shut down. Luckily no accident, but had to come to a stop on city street while travelling with traffic to restart vehicle. Electrical system appeared to be operating but had to use manual power to steer and stop the vehicle - no power from engine. This has happened about 6 or 7 times, but three times in past week.
Car stalls (stops running) randomly at speeds below 40 mph. This causes loss of power steering and brakes which can lead to a dangerous situation. I've almost run into a tree or off the road on several occasions since this happens randomly. The traction light comes on first and then you realize the engine isn't running anymore. You have to put the car in park and then start it again. It may be fine for the rest of the drive or it may stall again. Totally random as to when it does this. It has not happened at high speeds on the highway as of yet. I've had the car to the dealer several times with this complaint and each time they can't replicate it or it was due to the key fob recall which was performed on my car 3 times.
As I left my apartment to go to work, and after driving approximately 1 mile, I approached a stop light. As I pressed the brake pedal, suddenly my power steering went out, the "traction" light turned on on my dashboard, and the engine turned off. I put the car in park, turned the key to the off position, then restarted the van. It drove fine after that. Having the engine, steering, and brakes all shut down randomly while the electrical items still work was frightening. If it happens on the highway, I don't know what I will do.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 5 mph, the abs indicator illuminated and the brake pedal felt harder to depress. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.
Stalls while driving usually at low speed. Loss of power steering and brakes is dangerous. Restarts when turned off and restarted. Same problem has been reported large number of times on auto internet sites . Car has 108000 miles and has been stalling this way for many months from time to time usually after cold start. Mechanics have been able to reproduce stalls and unable to correct.
2008 Chrysler town and country limited edition. At speeds between 10-72 mph vehicle will shut off. There are no indications present when this happens, lights do not flash, no check engine warning lights, no warning etc. Vehicle shuts off intermittently only while in motion. Vehicle has shut off 9 times over a period of 11 months. Vehicle has never been exposed to any extreme weather condition, water, salts, or other items that might impact the vehicle. Vehicle has never run to of gas. Vehicle always has oil changes done before required times. Vehicle is driven very lightly. Condition- vehicle was driving at 32 mph on a city road in killeen texas, taking a slight turn in a road. Angle of road was less than a 120 degree turn. Vehicle shut off with oncoming traffic and vehicles behind the van. Brakes locked up, steering wheel locked up, and gauges continue to work until vehicle stops. Vehicle did not restart for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Condition- vehicle was driving down highway 90 in killeen texas near the tj mills exit. Speed was 72 mph, vehicle lost all power and shut off. Steering wheel and brakes lock. Vehicle nearly caused a multi car collision, but due to other drivers being aware no accident happened. Condition- fort hood texas, vehicle is driving down the road, near a stop light approaching at a speed of 13 mph. Vehicle shuts off, steering locks, brakes lock, and vehicle will not go out of drive. Vehicle is nearly hit by traffic from behind. Military police arrive on scene and assist driver with moving vehicle to a safe location. Vehicle did start after 22 minutes and 7 seconds. Vehicle was driving straight, there were no hills present. After researching multiple sites, threads, forums, and business, this is a common problem that requires immediate attention for safety of life.
1st vehicle stopped shifting had to pull over turn off car and wait then it worked for awhile , does this every few days. Brakes have been replaced 4 times before 55000 on the vehicle. At 58000 the vehicle bounces over every bump big or small some thing wrong in front end have been told it?s fine.
Driving down the road at 55 night driving ! complete loss of power steering engine and braking all hampered by loss of power as I tried to slow vehicle to a safe stop all of a sudden power came back. This was a complete safety issue with no power no headlights no taillights driving 55 at night on a back country highway and the vehicle only has 50000 miles on it.
Engine shuts down completely causing loss of power steering and brakes. No warnings, just dies. Diagnostics reveal a bad totally integrated power module. Recalls issued for multiple models but not mine. I was told, I have all the symptoms but I don't have the flu ! now they want almost $ 1000 to fix it ! it's an established, defective part but they'll let me drive away in it unless I can come up with the money. Chrysler said it's the same part as the recalled ones but I don't have a recall on my model. Ant time any where at any speed, it shuts down.
After the ignition switch recall was performed on my vehicle we experienced a stall condition that rendered the steering and brakes unusable for several seconds. The situation nearly resulted in an accident. The condition happen on a dry, sunny day while the car was in motion but not accelerating prior to going into a turn.
Driver rear brake intermittently hangs and heats up. On some drives after I exit my vehicle my passenger rear wheel will be noticeably hot with smell of burning rubber. It does not do this all the time just seems random.
Engine was started and journey started on tarmac road. 2 minutes later, esp amber warning light illuminated, power steering disengaged and brakes went hard. Acceleration was not possible. Car had to be forced to side of road and restarted. This has happened twice in one month at the same time in each journey following engine start.
The tipm is a cause of the vehicle horn honking, wipers moving on their own, wiper fluid spraying, and the lights flashing by themselves. I have had the vehicle randomly stall by itself on the highway while my wife was driving it and this has happened several times. These issues seem to mysteriously go away when I try to diagnose the issue. Last week the battery died and because of it being a few years old and now being in the winter, I decided to replace it only to have it die again a day later. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the charging system and said it was all good. Then proceeded to do a parasitic draw test where he determined that the tipm was causing the issues. I did some google searches and found that this is a wide stream problem with many owners of various Chrysler vehicles having the same issue. This is not safe especially when the vehicle shuts down while driving it and there are no power brakes or steering capabilities. A person could end up in a terrible accident or even be killed not to mention other drivers being at risk also. Doesn't seem to make much sense that Chrysler is dragging this on and not doing anything not to mention that I can't even order the part because it's on a national back order. This has happened several times in the last year and a few times last year but the tech was unable to correctly diagnose the issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph and attempting to apply the brakes that the front end of the vehicle as well as the steering wheel would shake. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it diagnosed that the rotors and brakes were beginning to fail and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Wh.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. After parking the vehicle, the brakes experienced a malfunction which caused the vehicle to roll away. The vehicle injured the contact and damaged nearby mailboxes. Medical attention was not required. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,312.

The van would stop at low speeds with loss of steering and braking power. No codes would be triggered, it was as if the ignition was just turned off while driving. The electrical power would still be on like the radio and instrumentation panel but the steering and braking would tighten up; very scary feeling. It has happened to my wife driving the kids eight to ten times and myself two times. The dealer said the ignition recall would take care of the problem but I think it is something else (took dealer 6 months to get the part in after our first incident). It got so bad that my wife would have me warm up and drive the van around before she would use it. After my experiences with the issue my procedure to her is to place the transmission in neutral while the van is still rolling and restart the car (this is only in the case of possibly being rear ended). Also, the traction control light would flicker right at engine cut off but no engine light. Five days before the appointment for the recall, my wife with kids and parent were in the van entering an on-ramp to the freeway when the engine cut off again causing the van to rear end the car in front. The accident totaled the van even though the speed was around 8mph; no airbag deployment. Chrysler opened an investigation but found no evidence of any failure from the vehicle. How can they find anything when no codes are triggered when the engine cuts off?.
I was driving down the road going between 35-40 mph and my car shut off. The radio and headlights were working but the engine was off, the power steering stopped working and the brakes were not working correctly. I tried to steer on the road but was approaching a stop sign where cross traffic did not stop. So I ended up pulling into the front yard of someone's house to slow and finally stop the car. The front yard was large so luckily I did not hit any mailboxes or houses. My car had shut off in 3 other incidences but I wasn't going as fast and I was in a residential neighborhood so I was able to let the car roll to a stop and no one was hurt. We use this car as a family car and I am worried that someone is going to get hurt if this happens again. I have called the closest dealership several times and Chrysler and no one seems to be able to help me. They all of told me that nothing can be done without a certain part that is not available. When I call the dealership they forward me to Chrysler and when I spoke to the person at Chrysler they forward me to the dealership.
Incident with Chrysler Town & Country 2008 2/9/15 between 4:26-4:29 p. M. Driving slow after just having gotten a green light (25mph or less) hit a big bump in the road. Every light on the dashboard lit up and I felt the engine lose power. The van coasted for a couple seconds then seemed to gain power back. Went around a bend in the road slowly and the engine lost all power. It did not come back at all this time. I tried to use the turn signal to get turn into a parking lot. Signal did not work. Neither did power steering. I could not get van to turn into parking lot. There was a moving vehicle behind me and a parking lot full of cars to my left. I found the automatic brakes were not working. I turned the steering wheel hard to the right to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle and thankfully the van coasted into a snow bank which stopped it from moving any farther. Turned on the hazard lights. I was able to get the van into park and make sure it really was not going anywhere. I took the keys out of the ignition and waited just under a minute. I decided to put the key back in the ignition and see if I could get the van to start. It started without any noticeable problems?! car ¿key attached to key ring with other keys. Did not receive a notice in the mail about recall. Looked up possible recalls after the fact and yes, there is one. And it is much more serious than Chrysler lets on. Tried to contact Chrysler by phone several times and can't get through. If this had happened in one of many other places I had been driving that day the accident could've been fatal.
Within the first 10 to 15 minutes of driving the vehicle, the engine will shut off causing extremely hard steering and braking. There does not seem to be a pattern as to if I use the remote start or just the key. It does seem to happen more in cold weather than when the weather is warmer. This happens on the average of 3 to 5 times a week. After the engine cuts off and then re-started, there are no other cut offs until the vehicle sits for some period of time and started up again. This is so serious that my wife and daughter cannot drive the vehicle. I know that a recall has been issued but it has been several months and there is nothing (according to the dealer) that can be done so the vehicle can be driven safely! help please!!.
L25 recall. Ignition failed three times no parts to fix yet. No other keys on fob last time it turned off. Key is loose in the ignition (per the local Chrysler service mgr). Engine turned off three times while drive without touching the key. Happened three time at different speeds first time at 45 miles per hour car just stopped in the middle of the road. . Once faster, once slower. My 22 year old daughter was driving the car all three times. All the lights on the dash come on and she said the steering would not work and the brakes did not work. She called crying the first time from the middle of the road did not know what to do. Engine had stopped. (no codes showed on diagnostic computer when dealer charged for the diagnostic) she ended up in the middle of the road stopped. Engine did restart all three times. Local Chrysler dealer could not get to duplicate even though the said they drove car 4 or 5 times. (even though they said they drove it 4 or 5 times, no miles were put one the van while in the dealership. Even the $115 diagnostic charge from the dealership showed no miles were put on the van). They charged because they said they could not confirm it was the l25 recall which they have no parts to fix yet. The local Chrysler dealer said they ran a diagnostic for $115 that showed no computer codes which the service manager said sounds like the ignition recall symptoms, but still charged me because they could not get it to duplicate at the dealership. (I did not know a safety recall had to be duplicated to get work done without charging) the local chyrsler dealership said that it should be safe to keep driving, they could not find anything wrong with it. My 22 daughter is scared to death of the van but is having to keep driving it.
This is in ref to recall l25. My car over the past 3 weeks is consistently shutting off while driving at least 1x per day. I have almost been in 4 accidents as a result. One time it happened as I was entering a busy interstate. Chrysler has not eta on the piece to fix the car. I called and they said to call you. I transport a special needs child daily and this is getting ridiculous. I have been on busy main roads, on side roads and driving around a traffic circle and the ignition slips out of the on position, motor dies, I lose power steering and brakes and airbags. I have all keys removed from the key fob and it happens on a daily basis. I will leave the parking deck at my work today and it will shut off going down the ramp and I struggle to steer, stop, put car in park, restart and continue on. . . Hoping I don't get hit or that I hit someone else. I need a temporary car until they can fix this. My key fob sits in the key hole lose and the littlest of bumps throws turns off my car. I either need resolution ASAP or another car until fixed. If I have an accident then we will see what an attorney has to say. This recall occurred months ago and Chrysler is yet to fix it.
Incident 1: 10/29/14 while driving with my child, the vehicle's engine shut off causing the vehicle to loose power brakes & steering function. Engine would not turn over. Vehicle towed for repair. Starter relay replaced. Incident 2: 11/28/14 while driving my two children, at a high rate of speed, on I-75, the vehicle's engine shut off causing the vehicle to loose power brakes & steering function. Engine would not turn over. Engine then turned over. Vehicle driven to owner's residence. 11/29/14 engine would not turn over. Vehicle towed to Chrysler dealership for inspection.
In December of 2013 my car ignition began shutting off while driving. First time I was going 45 mph. It happened 3 times last winter and stopped. Chrsyler issued an l25 recall 2 mo ago but no eta on parts still as of today. Key fob slipped to the accessory position while driving on 10/16 and 10/21 just recerntly while leaving the parking garage at my office. Garage is a bit bumpy like all and I have removed all keys from the fob per Chrysler instructions. They claim this happens at low speeds but it has happened to me going 45-50 mph last winter. On 10/21 I was going down the parking deck on an incline and the engine shut off. Someone was changing a flat tire in a parking spot at the end the ramp I was on and a car was behind me. I didn't know the engine has shut off until I go to brake and turn. I barely stopped in time so as not to hit the guy changing his tire and the person behind me almost slammed into me. Add to this the airbags become ineffective due to the power loss and I have no power steering or power brakes. I was about to turn at the bottom of the ramp when I realized I had no power. I could have killed the person in front and the person behind almost took me out. The frequency of this happening is increasing and Chrysler refuses to do anything. They told me today the recall is too big and they don't have the loaner cars to accomodate and Chrysler claims this only happens at low speeds on bumpy roads and the car is safe to drive. I have a special needs child who is always in the car with me and I'm always carpooling with my daughter's gymnastics team so I always have kids in my car going to performances. This is putting me and my family and other kids at risk. My car is not safe and Chrysler reffuses to do anything about this. I need a loaner car and quick. I drive to work 5 days a week for an hour each way plus all the other things I have to do to transport my kids.
