The abs control module is defective and the anti-lock system is not operating correctly. I have had to replace brake pads 3 times in the last two years. I took my van in for brake repair and the service tech (who had worked for Chrysler previously) detected the issue and found the recall affecting the vehicle (NHTSA campaign # 09v351000). Fca has a technical service bulletin out on this issue and this is a recall out for this problem, affecting my make & model year but my VIN number does not apply to the recall. How can this be?.
Premature brake wear - I have owned the car for 2. 5 years ($45,000 miles) and have had to replace all 4 brakes and pads 3 times. This is unsafe and needs to be addressed.
Breaks keeps acting up, clicking all the time really loud, put about 2 new break jobs on it a year, never get fixed, have tried different pads and rotors.
Front brakes grinding . It needs new front pads and rotors at only 16,000 miles.
Our van makes a grinding or rubbing noise coming from the front end/axles. It is especially noticeable when we are turning. It sounds like a fluttering/grinding of metal or some part that is revolving with the wheels as we drive. We had the brake rotors replaced and pads replaced. That helped with the shimmy we felt while braking, but the rubbing/grinding sounds persist. We are being told it might be wheel bearings. Others have reported similar problem to NHTSA for this model/year t&c Mini van. There is a service notification k19 for this exact problem on some 2008 models. I think our van VIN# should be added to that list of "some 2008 models. ".
I just had my front break pads and roters replaced. I had them replaced on 2/14/2012. My rear rotors and pads are ok, but need to be replaced soon. I had them replaced less than a year ago. I have searched on the internet this same issue for my year, make and model, and I found hundreds upon hundreds of complaints. Chrysler needs to recall the brake system. . . One should not have to replace the brakes and rotors every year.
We have had to replace all 4 brake pads and rotors at 20,000 miles. Now, at 33,000 miles the rear pads and rotors have to be replaced again! yet all I've read is that Chrysler is only paying $100 of the cost and only on the front brakes. There are a myriad of complaints of this very problem all over the internet. Isn't there something NHTSA can do to force Chrysler to back their defective product?.
We have been having problems from day one with our Chrysler town and country. We purchased it with 12,000 miles on it, and have had to had the brake pads and rotors changed out twice. We have been told the vehicle will never stop squeaking. We have taken it in for pads to be replaced, and yet it still continues to squeak. At the beginning of summer, my husband had the oil changed, and asked for the guy to look at the brakes, he said we had plenty of 'thickness' on them. I was out with my children just a few months later, and very few miles later, to find my brakes had difficulty stopping the vehicle. I wasn't able to fully stop at a street light and ended up running the red with my car hanging completely over the line. I had 3 children in the vehicle and was lucky that no one was hurt. On a separate occasion months prior, I was again with my children in the vehicle, and found the vehicle completely stopped running while I was driving 65 miles per hour on a busy street in mid commuter traffic. The car completely just shut off. I was thankfully in the right hand lane and able to pull to the side with the aid of the brakes. After pulling out the key and putting it back in, I was able to restart the vehicle. I took it in and the mechanic said they were unable to replicate the problem. Looking on blogs, it appears this has happened on numerous other occasions for other people. This car has proven on two occasions that it can have fatal consequences if left untreated. Fixing the brakes and stalling issues isn't going to help, because the problems come with no warning. I had no idea that my brakes even needed to be replaced because we were told they were okay only soon to find out they weren't. This all happened because of the permanent squeak. I am terribly concerned for the safety of my family. ## VIN failed ## Chrysler town and country 2008 ##.
I have had the front brakes pads replaced at 15000 miles, and then the front pads replaced again at about 30000 miles. The rear pads were replaced also around 30,000 miles. When at the dealer for an oil change at 50000 they said the rear pads need replacing. I was fed up with the brakes on this vehicle and did not have the dealer repair them. Today at about 54000 miles I took my vehicle into midas and they showed me that the rear drivers side brake pad was wore down nearly all the way while the rear passenger side pad was only about half. (unever wear). The rear drivers side rotar also showed signs of overheating. (had a blueish/purple sheen to it) I paid about 600 bucks to have the rear pads, calibers, and rotars replaced with ceramic pads.
Vehicles current mileage is 64,500 miles and as of today had to replace front brake pads/rotors 4 times and rear brake pads/rotors 2 times.
Told by dealer we need new front pads and rotors after 24,000 miles.
In July 2011, I brought my vehicle to Chrysler to report a bad pulsation feeling when the brakes were applied. We had 41,761 miles on vehicle and on a trip from new jersey to pennsylvania, we felt that the vehicle was struggling to brake fast enough. Chrysler stated that I needed new front rotors. They replaced them and my cost was close to $400. Several weeks later, on 8/16/11, I brought my vehicle to Chrysler again to report the same bad pulsation feeling when the brakes were applied and felt that the vehicle was struggling to brake fast enough. I was informed by Chrysler that the left front rotor was scored and pitted and the coating failed for mopar ro 180802. On 8/16/11, they replaced the left front rotor. One year later my vehicle has 53,754 miles on it. On 8/30/12, I bring my vehicle to Chrysler due to a very high pitched brake squeal. Chrysler completes a full brake inspection and informs me that the brake pads and rotors are fine and do not need to be replaced. About 4 days later, the high pitched squeal from my brakes is louder and occurring more. I am feeling a bad pulsation feeling when the brakes are applied. I am told I need new front rotors. I should not have to replace rotors after 12,000 miles. Chrysler should recall the brakes in the 2008 town and country model. Brakes are one of, if not the most important part of a vehicle that should be functioning properly and should not need to be replaced 1-2 times per year. I drive under normal weather conditions on a mix of highway and some city roads.
Early brake wear - I bought a 2008 Chrysler t&c in December 2010 with approximately 26,500 miles. The service history indicates that it had the brakes replaced when it was only a year old and had 11,996 miles. We have since had to replace the front pads at 27,000 miles and at 28,500 we are now having to replace the rear brake pads which are wearing unevenly and all four rotors.
I have a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country that I purchased new with currently 13,000 miles on it. Within a year we began experiencing loud squealing noises while driving from the rear of the car. In 2010 the dealer had to replace the front and rear brakes pads and rotors. The loud squealing noise from the rear never really was resolved. Most recently we have noticed a burning odor and smell from the rear tire area and the rear wheel rims are very hot to the touch when we stop the car to inspect. We have researched this on-line and notice that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of similar complaints. I contacted the service manager at my dealer in chicago and they informed me that they have seen and are experiencing this issue frequently with brake type issues for Chrysler Town & Country 2008 models and the standard remedy is to change the brake pads and rotors. Many people have reported doing this several times with very low mileage. This does not resolve the issue. There is obviously a problem here, the root cause has not been addressed, and Chrysler needs to take ownership and responsibility for this issue. I and others should not have to continuously pay or invest time to address these problems especially at very low mileage.
The contact owns 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph when the contact heard a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. When the contact stopped the vehicle, he could smell a burning odor. He stated that the rim of the rear passenger side was abnormally hot. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the rotors and brake pads were replaced. The technician stated that there was only five percent of the brakes left and the rotors were severely rusted. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 22,800.
I wish to complain about my 2008 Chrysler town and country's constant brake problems. I have have both front and rear brakes fully replaced at 30,000 mile only to fail inspection less than 12,000 miles later that the pads as well as the rotors need to be replaced again at my expense because although it was under 12,000 miles(the warranty) I was 39 days over 12 months. My research has shown multiple complaint on this vehicle for this exact problem resulting is a prorated authorized reinbursment from Chrysler back in July. This is happening again after the "one time reinbursement" and the dealership wants over 400 for the repair or they will not pass the inspection. Please look into this and the 1000's of other complaints about the town and country 2008 for costly cheap factory and replacement brakes. A recall is a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
2008 Chrysler town and country touring rear brakes pads and rotors need replacing at 26,000 miles.
I bought a 2008 Chrysler town and country in 9/08. I received a warranty extension regarding the front brakes. Took in to a dealer 8/20/10 was told that there are no front brakes available as there is a national backorder from Chrysler but the rear brakes are okay. I called 3 times to inquire on the parts status told not available from Chrysler. Went to another dealer who had the brakes but am now told that my rear brakes will not pass nys inspections on 9/28/10. I have exactly 24,171 miles on my car. I was told by the dealer that it was my bad driving habits that caused the rear brake failure and not defective parts although the front brakes are defective and Chrysler is extending the warranty out of their commitment to the customer. I have never had a car have rear brake issues especially at 24,000 miles. I had to pay the additional $50 toward the deductible b/c Chrysler was out of brakes and I went over the 24,000 threshold while waiting for them to ship. Now I had to pay $267. 00 for rear brake pads in a two year old vehicle. I have noticed on the internet that many more people are having this rear brake problem with Chrysler as well.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. While having the vehicle examined the contact noticed that the front brake pads were worn down to the rotor. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 29000.
The brakes are constantly needing to be replaced due to wear. The problem begins with squeaking and then grinding begins. Brakes are being replaced as often as every 12,000 miles. Repairs involved new brake pads and either new rotors or repaired rotors. This has been an ongoing problem since about 12,000 miles.
Front and rear brake pads and rotors on 2008 Chrysler town and country vehicles are inferior and wear out prematurely; and in some cases the pad material separates from the steel backing plate. Rotors are also inferior and warp. All of this occurs usually in under 15,000 miles. Chrysler is aware of this problem, and knows that it extends into may other vehicle lines. New rotors and pads have been installed to correct this issue on my vehicle which now stops properly. The brakes on this vehicle can become ineffective due to loss of friction material, or heating caused by inferior rotor materials.
2008 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. Around 17,000 miles the van started making noise when applying the brakes took it in and the brake pads were replaced, then less than 300 miles later it was screeching and the brake pads & rotors had to be replaced. I filed a complaint then odi id number : 10326711. To their credit, Chrysler did reimburse us. Now in July 2010, the brakes are making noises and we take it to Chrysler and they told us it needs new brake pads an rotors again, this is less than 6,000 miles later. However the rotors are on backorder and will not be in until late August. It is now October 26th, 3 months later and we have just been told for the fifth straight time that the rotors are still on backorder and they do not expect them until sometime in November. Our car now shakes and shimmies and squeals & screeches when we apply the brakes. This cannot be good for the vehicle and has to be affecting the wheels, axles, bearings, etc not to mention whatever else on the car is getting shaken out of place. I feel it is a rolling deathtrap and should not even be allowed on the highway. Chrysler has admitted they have brake problems and sent out letters to assist with paying for new brakes however, making someone wait for over 3 months for brake parts is criminal! the dealership where we have been trying to get the parts says they are so sorry but this has been an on going problem with the Chrysler minivans. We even called the dealership in a town about 60 miles away and they too confirmed the rotors are on backorder. Please investigate this and step in and do something before serious accidents and injuries occur.
2008 chrsyler town and country front brakes are defective and ear out within 5,000 miles. Manufacturer is aware of problem and has designed new brake pads. They have not recalled the vehicles. They do not have enough brake pads available for replacement and are telling customers that they must wait 4 months to get brake pads. They suggest that people simply drive with metal on metal until brakes are available. This is absurd and obviously unsafe.
Brake system problem with a 2008 Chrysler town and country signature/touring edition. The vehicle has premature break squeal and grinding @ 20,726 miles. Received a letter from Chrysler stating that listed vehicle 'may' be covered under an extended warranty program. Immediately took the vehicle into the nearest dealer (dick scott Dodge, Plymouth, mi). Dealer charged $35. 00 to inspect. Charged a $100. 00 deductible to cover the front brakes and front rotors and charged an additional 120. 67 to machine the rear rotors, deglaze the rear pads and lube the rear slides. The total bill was $256. 67. Continued to research the brake problem and learned that this is and will continue to be an ongoing issue with the vehicle.
The contact owns 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that during routine maintenance, the mechanic mentioned that the front and rear brakes were wearing out rapidly. The mechanic also stated that both the front and rear brakes needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by the design of the braking system. The inside brake pads exhibited a wear pattern while the outside brake pads looked new. The failure and current mileages were 42500.
The 2008 Chrysler town and country minivan we have had begin to shimmy and vibrate up through the steering wheel when braking, especially when slowing down on the parkway. Concerned about the safety of the vehicle, I promptly brought it to my local mechanic. Upon his inspection, the vehicle required both front rotors and pads replaced. The vehicle has less than 10,000 miles on it. How can a 10,000 mile car need new rotors so soon? I hope to take this up with Chrysler directly and to be compensated for the expense of this service.
2008 Chrysler Town & Country has an issues with brakes. Front pads and rotors resurfaced at 20,000 miles. Now 16,000 miles later, the front and back pads and rotors must be replaced. $700. Brakes should last much longer which leads me to believe there is some sort of defect in their operation.
1998 Town & Country brake problem. . . At less than 12,000 noticeable squeaking of brakes and vibration of steering column when brakes applied. . . Never had this happen so early in a car before. . . Kept complaining. . . Front pads and rotors replaced at approx 22,000 at my cost. . . At 30,000 squeaking and vibrations started again. . . At 38,500 rear brakes have seemed to literally "burn out" terrible metallic burning smell from rear driver tire area. . . Tire is fine. . . Rim extremely hot and terrible smell. . . Speeds of approximately 35-55 mph and steering column vibrations are excessive. . . It is clear Chrysler has a major problem. . . Will the NHTSA wait until a crash, fire and/or death occurs before taking this seriously. . . Every Chrysler dealership service department knows there is an issue (almost seems like an inside joke), but hide behind Chrysler corporate. . . Please make Chrysler fix this issue. . . Most minivans on the road carry families and/or children. . . Including mine!.
I had to install new brakes at 24,000 after taking my vehicle to the dealer because there was supposed to be a recall and the dealer told me it had expired . I just had to replace my brake pads and install new rotors at 53,000 miles. I have my receipts and would like to be reimbursed and investigate why the dealer told me that the recall had expired . Obviously there is a problem with the brakes on my vehicle.
Within 10000 miles of use, my 2008 Chrysler town and country started having brake problems. I was told that I needed to have pads and rotors replaced. They were going to charge me full price but I did a little research online and found other complaints of the same problem so I called the service manager and complained. He said they see it all the time and it's not right but they can't do anything about a recall. They are clearly aware of a brake problem and yet they aren't doing anything to resolve the problem, this needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes were engaged, followed by a stutter. The failure occurred at any speed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician informed that the four brake rotors were warped. The contact received a manufacturer notice pertaining to the replacement of the front brake components. However, the authorized dealer would not honor the remedy repair due to the brake pads specs not meeting the manufacturer requirements. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 23,800.
Bad brakes on 2008 Chrysler town and country rotors warp and brakes ware out within 8,000 miles I had to replace brakes 3 times and cut rotors twice and replaced them twice in 36,000 miles of driving. I took it to the dealer to have it checked out and he told me the new vans are heaver than the old vans and they didn't increase the break size and this is causing them to over heat and warp the rotors and ware the brake pads out even under normal driving. There are thousands of complaints and even brake failures listed on line and to Chrysler. I called Chrysler and they said they new of the problem and they don't know if they are going the recall this model to fix this prob. You need to step in and hurry up the recall before somebody gets hurt or killed, not to mention it is very expensive to keep fixing this prob.
We started hearing sqeaking noices in our wheels approximately 9 months after we purchased the new vehicle and both front and rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced at only 10,000 miles. This was due to severe overheating causing the brakes to prematurely wear. One year later we started hearing the same sqeaking noice again and took it back to the dealership and the rear brakes locked again causing severe overheating and premature wearing. It was only 6,000 miles since the last brakes were replaced. Our van only has 18,000 miles on it total and the brakes and rotors have been replaced twice. Chrysler corp knows of this defect and is unwilling to do anything to rectify the situation. Unless the entire brake system is replaced the pads and rotors will continue to wear prematurely. This is a major safety hazard for anyone owning a 2008 Chrysler town and country and anyone driving on the road with a 2008 Chrysler town and country. If a recall is not initiated someone will die.
Bought a 2008 town and country sept 2008 in June 2009 brakes started squeaking badly had Chrysler check brakes they has 8,927 miles on them and was told they were fine but dust gets in and casues the squeaking. For months got worse and worse embarrissing everytime you stop everyone looks at u cause your squeling so loudly after looking up on internet and finding thousands of complaints about the 2008 brake failure at low milage and having a freind who traded her car in and got a diff car because of such problems I decided to have Chrysler check my brakes again April 23,2010 and now my brake pads and rotors in front were bad and needed new replacement I have only 18,000 miles and this should not be happening. I have owned other Dodge and Chrysler minivans and have never had to replace brakes at such a low milage or deal with constant squeaking.
I did not drive my 2008 Town & Country van for 2 months as a result of my foot surgery, 2/17/10 to 4/19/10. On the morning of 4/19/10, as I attempted to move my vehicle out of my garage, the vehicle would not move. I further depressed the gas pedal and the vehicle appeared to "break free" and move. It seemed as if the wheels were frozen. As I drove to work, I noticed that when I applied the brakes, the braking was uneven and the brakes were "chattering. " the van also took longer to stop. When I got to work, I called my local Chrysler dealer and advised them of the problem. They told me that it would not be covered under warranty. The van has 22,500 miles on it. I then took the van to a local repair shop. They showed me that the freezing of my wheels that morning was actually the rear pads rusting to the rotors. I saw the mark on the rotors where they had rusted. It then made the rear rotors uneven causing the chatter. They then showed me that the front pads were very low. They suggested that the rear rotors and pads be changed along with the front pads. The entire job came to $650. To me this is unsafe and no fair. I believe this should not happen to a car with less than 23,000 miles on it. It was obvious to me that this problem had to be corrected immediately. I was not going to pay the dealership to do it because I feared that they would replace the brakes with the same make that had failed.
