36 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

My brake pads and rotors had to be replaced on my 2008 Chrysler town and country van when I had barely 19000 miles on the vehicle. Brakes were tested as fine during a safety inspection in January, and suddenly 3 months later they had worn down to metal to metal contact which then also ruined the rotors. No accident resulted from this, however, I see through research on the internet that this seems to be a trend for this make/model of car.

37 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

I had my 2008 Chrysler t&c checked for squeal in front tire area, and they found that I had 5% remaining on my brake pads. Now I wonder why they didn't notice this at my last tire rotation? now it is costing me over $300 to fix. I then read online that this has happened to many people and there is no recall or notice from Chrysler.

38 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that the brakes have worn prematurely. The brake pads and the rotors were replaced due to wear and tear at 10,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the brakes fail rapidly due to the design and the way they were made. The brakes have been replaced every 10,000 miles. There are no recalls or warranties related to the failure. The failure was repaired at the owners expense. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 13,000.

39 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

I own 2008 Chrysler Town & Country van and last week when I took my van for regular oil change to the dealer(gurnee Dodge), the technician told me that I have to replace my front brake pads and rotors as they are worn out at only 15,000 miles. I have never had to replace brake pads and rotors at such a low mileage on any vehicle I have owned. I have been driving for 20 years, have owned many vehicles and am not driving any differently than I have driven in the past. The dealer did not give me the vehicle as he said it is a safety issue and I was forced or tricked into changing my pads for $300. 00 (parts and labor) and they said they could resurface the rotor instead of replacing it after seeing my frustration. Later I came to know that there a TSB issued on 2008 Chrysler and Dodge vehicles TSB# 05-006-08 issued Dec. 8th. 2008 regarding the brake pads and rotors and I called the dealer and told him about this, he says he has never heard about this and not ready to honor this TSB.

40 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2010

I leased a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country in Feb. 2008. Today is March 26, 2010. I have roughly 26,000 miles on the vehicle and have taken it to several mechanic, including Chrysler service shop at local dealership, and the consensus is that all rotors and brake pads must be replaced, none can be turned/machined/lathed, and nothing is covered under warranty, even though there is a 36,000, 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty still in effect. The rotors and brake pads put on this vehicle at assembly were sub-par. Chrysler has received thousands of complaints regarding this problem from 2008 t&c owners and refuses to cover the rotor replacement or repair and rountinely puts the blame on the owner.

41 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2010

We purchased a brand new 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Mini van just before Nov 25, 2008. A month ago at 17,000 we had to put on all new(front and back) brake pads and rotors! this car is not driven hard or funny, we do not ride our brakes. Since Chrysler does not cover brakes after 12,000 miles so we had them repaired at the oilworks, by a man we trust. The cost was $400, yesterday, 300 miles after the new brakes were installed we had to have new rotors installed again! we were not charged for the second rotors but were told that there was so much brake dust the pads were already wearing! I started looking online and found that there are literally thousands of people with the same complaint about abnormal brake wear on the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country vans. We paid about $30,000 for this vehicle and we maintain it properly. I think Chrysler should have to stand up for the lousy brakes they are installing on these cars. And come up with a brake product that works!.

42 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2010

Leasing a 2008 Chrysler town and country minivan. With 17800 miles heard a noise from rear of vehicle. Took to Chrysler dealer and said rear brakes were down to metal. Had to have both rotors and pads replaced. They warrantied the rotors but paid for labor and pads. They also recommended that I replace front at my own cost about $400. I didn't have the fronts replaced. I have driven new and used cars and never have had to replace brakes at that low mileage. Most of the time it would be the front brakes first then the rear. The service manager said that they have had alot of problems with this model. Some customers have had to replace brakes at 10,000 miles. This something that NHTSA should look into.

43 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2010

New front brake pads were needed at 15k miles. At 30k miles, rear pads were down to 10% and needed to be replaced. Also at 30k miles, the front pads had 40% left, but the front rotors where damaged beyond repair. Replaced front rotors and front/rear pads at an expense of $500. Mechanic and Chrysler customer service reps (two csrs so far) acknowledge this is a repeating and known issue. No recalls or resolution from Chrysler to date.

44 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance and it was discovered that rocks had gotten in between the brake pads and rotors. As a result, the brake pads disintegrated and made deep grooves in the rotors. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was awaiting to hear back from the manufacturer. The VIN was not available at the time of the complaint and the failure mileage was unknown. The approximate current mileage was 23,423.

45 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph. There was a grinding noise outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the front brake pads and rotors required replacement. The manufacturer was notified and stated that due to the vehicle exceeding over 12,000 miles there was uncertainty in covering the repair cost expense. The vehicle had not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 20,480. The current mileage was 20,500.

46 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

Brakes on 2008 Chrysler town and country worn at 20,000 miles. The dealer informed me this is normal wear and tear but I have had several vehicles that the brakes have lasted more than 40,000 miles. I now need new pads at 20,000 miles and possibly new rotors.

47 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

2008 Chrysler town and country had to have brakes pads and rotors replaced at 22700 miles.

48 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

My 2008 Chrysler town and country needs new front brake pads and routers at 20k and Chrysler will not pay for any of the repairs and told me to expect to replace these every 12k-20k in the future.

49 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

After taking my family on a 3,000 + mile trip to florida and back to michigan through the mountains, I took my 2008 Chrysler town and country Mini-van into meade Dodge in grosse pointe, mi in for an oil change, tire rotation and warranty work to address issues that arose with the air conditioning and automatic sliding door during the trip. During the 23 point inspection that the dealership performs with the oil change, the service rep contacted me about a known frequent issue with pre-mature wear of the rotors and breaking pads on the town and country Mini-vans. The service representative mentioned it being a known problem that they see frequently on these vehicles and that Chrysler authorized the work being completed with a $100 consumer CO-pay to have the work completed. My concern is that the public or owners of the vans were not notified. I took a long trip with my family in the vehicle that contained parts with a known defect that could have resulted in an accident if the breaking system failed. My van currently has approximately 21,000 miles on it. I want to make your department aware that this may be an issue affecting all new town and country vans sold. In discussing this incident with a CO-worker, he mentioned a similar issue with his 1998 town and country van.

50 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

Premature wearout of front brake pads on 2008 Town & Country; pads are wearing out between 12,000 miles and 20,000 miles.

51 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2010

Extreme brake wear and fade; complete falure and diagnostic failure codes at 35,588 miles. Chrysler t&c brake concern: (brake system blog response 02/06/2010) tayers having been in the industry as well as being a fse (field service engineer) for the big 3, I am really upset!! believe it or not I returned from a 2005 bullet proof t&c only to buy a new 2008 loaded. Expecting the same, if not improved experience, the brake design and metering is totally unacceptable. Having changed the front brake pads at 23,000 miles only as a pm preventive maintenance move, at 35,388 the whole front system will now have to be replaced. The industry did go through major brake redesigns when asbestos was removed back in 1995 causing the entire industry to re-think and re-design brake systems. Dvp (design verification & prove out) is required, someone blew it and should be fired! having owned and serviced over two hundred and fifty cars, I have never seen such a deplorable release to the general public. It's really a shame but daimler Chrysler should step up to this issue or take the t&c out of production all together. Just reading all these blogs will convince NHTSA eventually that they need to react. While you and I may find the t&c a great vehicle in the market segment, the brake system is not, nor should not have been released! whoever designed this system and says they tested and proved it out had to be smoking !@#$% this van had the ability to stand above any foreign competition and to have this put a black mark on what should be a best seller is a crime.

52 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

We have a 2008 Chrysler town and country minivan. The brake pads are already shot. Reading through edmonds. Com shows this is an amazingly common problem. Apparently there are 1000s upon 1000s of other owners similarly affected by these junk components. We literally have owned this vehicle for only 17 months and have to replace the brakes, on what is still a brand new car.

53 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

Brake rotors and pads on 2008 Chrysler Town & Country needed to be replaced at 23,324 miles at a cost of $735. 20. Dealer wouldn't even consider resurfacing the rotors because they have had so many problems with them warping. Vehicle was purchased new on 11/10/07. Brakes have always squeaked but they said that was normal for this vehicle. Have since learned that many owners with this year of this vehicle are having similar (or worse) longevity out of their brakes. Have owned 2 previous Chrysler Town & Country's prior to this and didn't have to replace brakes until 50,000 + miles.

54 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

Premature failure on front brake pads and rotors. The front brake pads had to be replaced at 18,000 miles. Then the front rotors had to be replaced at 23,000 miles. Chrysler would not cover any of the repairs because the front brake pads were not replaced at a Chrysler dealer with Chrysler pads. Chrysler customer service said they would have paid to replace the rotors and pads had the pads not been replaced with aftermarket pads. The reason they were replaced with aftermarket pads is because at 18,000 miles when the pads wore out, I took it to a Chrysler dealer and they said they couldn't do anything about it and that it was normal wear. Obviously it's not normal. Chrysler should fix this problem by putting correct sized rotors on the vehicle. Customer service is horrible.

55 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2010

I own a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country lx. My brake pads were replaced and rotors turned at 13,300 in oct. 08. Later started feeling vibration in steering wheel when applying brakes. This occurred in early oct. 09 with around 17,000 miles on van. Took it to dealer in Jan 2010 because vibrations got so severe. Was told front rotors are glazed and worn and need replacing and pads replaced. Rear rotors need turning and pads replaced. The van has a little over 18,000 miles on it. To many problems with brakes for so few miles on van.

56 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2010

2008 Chrysler Town & Country brake pads had to be replaced at 15,800 miles. The brake system (rotors & pads) on the 2008 Town & Country are inadequate for this van and should be recalled.

57 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town & country. The contact noticed premature wear on the brake pads and rotors. She cited a squeaking noise when she applied the brakes. A dealer confirmed that new brakes and one rotor were needed. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. She called the manufacturer and was currently awaiting a response. The current mileage was approximately 29,400. The failure mileage was approximately 29,200.

58 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

2008 Chrysler town&country, own car for 13 months; 16,500 miles, front brake pads gone. Dealership states that brakes covered only for 12 months; 12,000 miles. Dealership states that this is not the first of these vehicles to report the same issue. May be related to TSB 05-006-08.

59 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

2008 Chrysler town and country brakes system. Just passed 25000 and required all four brakes and pads to be replaced. We were told that we were really lucky to have even made it that far on the initial set. This vehicle was bought brand new and when we took it in for burning smell and squeaks on the brakes this issue was discovered and was not covered under warranty. Pleading with Chrysler corp and the dealership resulted in nothing other than an acknowledgement that this is a known issue and had we not driven so gently they should have failed 10k miles earlier. My only hope is to file a complaint and have these brake pads recalled as improper for the vehicle. The real issue is that the replacement pads will last upwards of 40k miles.

60 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2010

Needed to replace brakes & 1 rotor after the 20,000 mile mark on a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country lx. We bought the van from the dealer with 14,000 miles on it. The vehicle was a demo so when we bought it, we were considered the "first" owners. One of our friends just replaced the brake pads for the first time on their kia after 75,000 miles.

61 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

Unacceptable brake wear. Front pads needed replacing at 17,000 miles. I have owned 6 Chrysler Mini vans starting at 1985. I have always got 35k to 50k on front pads and more on the rears. Irate and will take action if Chrysler, daimler or fiat does not react.

62 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

2008 Chrysler town and country---brakes. Front and rear brakes wear out under normal operations within 11,000 miles of operations. 1st set of pad and rotors were replaced at 11,000 miles and now the van has 22,000 miles and the brake squeaks are upon us again. Took it in and brakes are almost ready 15% left on rear brakes pads. Poor design and manufacture of 2008 brakes. Chrysler should be made to upgrade the rotors and pads as this is a safety concern.

63 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

Chrysler Town & Country needing new brake pads and rotors after on 20,000 miles.

64 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

I wish to file a complaint about the 2008 Chrysler town and country vans. These vans were produced with sub standard brake pads and rotors that wear out very prematurely and risk causing serious injury. Most people do not expect their vehicles brake pads and rotors to wear out at 18,000 miles and as such could ignore important signs that a problem is ahead. At some point a brake failure is going to occur and someone will get injured or killed due to loss of brakes. This is an issue that Chrysler needs to issue a recall on immediately. There are literally thousands of blogs on the internet of people that have had to change their brake pads and rotors at very low miles on brand new vans. Thank you! gregg henricks.

65 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2010

Unusually fast wear of front brake pads and rotors on 2008 Chrysler town and country. Needed new pads and rotors at 15490 miles and had to put on heavy duty ceramic pads mechanic has never seen pads and rotors wear so fast in thirty years.

66 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Brakes on 2008 Chrysler town and country are too small for the vehicle weight. I have replaced all brake pads and rotors three times in 37000 miles. Safety recall required.

67 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

Brake issues - having to replace brake pads and rotors, we are on our third set for our 2008 chry town and country Mini van. Present mileage 39884. On two occasions the brakes over heated with smoke, lots of smoke. Once in Dec. 2009 and the other 2010. We used snow to cool off the brakes. We were concerned that a fire would start. We had taken our vehicle back to the dealer for the brakes and we were told they were fine this prior to the smoking incident in 2009. Later in October 2009 we went to firestone to get the tires rotated they advised the brakes need to be replaced at 22,324 miles. They called the dealer and reported the brakes, the dealer advised brakes were not covered. We had the brake pads and rotors replaced a couple days later on own. Then in July 2010 the brakes over heated and smoked again. On sept 2010 the brake pads and front rotors had to be replaced. Upon looking into this issue on the internet there seems to be a lot of complaints with the 2008 chry town and country having brake issues. We did get a notice from chry. But there seem to be a bigger issue.

68 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2009

I bought a brand new 2008 Chrysler town and country van in Nov 2008. After about a year, Dec 2009 my van started shaking badly during braking. It had 17,050 mi (mostly highway miles). I brought the van into a Chrysler dealership for inspection. They told me the brakes were 100% shot and I needed a complete brake replacement (rotors, pads, flush, etc. ) which cost me $650. I called Chrysler complaining that brakes on a new vehicle should not wear out on a vehicle with less than 17k miles (especially the rear brakes). Chrysler told me this was normal but would look into it. After a month I've not heard back. I've owned a 1992 and 1999 Chrysler vans and never had these brake problems. The front brakes on my older vans lasted over 35k miles and the rear lasted over 50k miles. My neighbor owns a 2006 Town & Country and has had only 2 brake jobs in 80k miles. Apparently he brake design did not change much from the 2007 model however the 2008 gained a lot of weight (new model) which contributed to the premature brake failure. Minimally, Chrysler should have notified me of the premature brake failures but never did. I've checked safety complaints on your odi website and saw 85 complaints for brakes on the 2008 t&c. I also checked complaints for earlier years and only saw only a very few brake complaints. I've checked the internet and found hundreds upon hundreds of complaints related to brake problems on the 08 t&c. So here's my summary: 1) I never expected the brakes to go at such low mileage so if I needed to do an emergency stop I probably would have had an accident. 2) apparently there was a design flaw but Chrysler refuses to admit it 3) Chrysler is silently reimbursing owners who file the loudest complaints. Odi: you have all these brake complaints for the 08 t&c so how is it that Toyota is getting bashed for their brakes but Chrysler continues to produce their vans with defective brakes??????.

69 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2009

My 2008 t&c was purchased in may of '08 and has 14k miles on it. With no prior warning, the brakes were metal on metal when we come upon traffic at 70 mph. We were able to avoid a collision (thankfully) using the lower transmission gears. Now, the dealership has informed me that it is my responsibility because the warranty is only for 1 year/12k miles, even though it was their oversight for not informing me that the pads were low at my 12k service. Now, I need new pads and the rotors re-surfaced. I find it amazing that a vehicle that costs over $45k has such poor quality materials that could endanger lives. How is this possible.

70 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

I lease a 2008 Chrysler town and country minivan. We have complained about brake noises since taking possession of the vehicle. Now, at 18,000miles, I am told that the brake pads and rotors need to be replaced. I was also told by Chrysler that this is a common problem with this model. Chrysler refuses to do anything about this other than give me a 20% discount on the repair.
