4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2021

Our 2009 Chrysler town and country is having major issues. The dashboard lights keep going on and off the speedometer won't work when this is happening also the windshield wipers go on automatically with me putting them on and won't stop. Sometimes while this occurs our automatic door won't operate or radio. We got a new alternator a new battery a new iod fuse and it's still happening I wasn't sure if this was a normal occurrence for Chryslers so I did some research my van isn't the only one with the same issues we unfortunately bought it used a few months ago and can't take it back to the lot.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2019

When driving my town and country, the instrument cluster and all the interior and exterior lights start flashing on and off. The windhshield wipers come on, the vehicle turns completely off and will not start again for a few minutes. Since the vehicle turns off, the power steering goes out along with the power brakes. This has happened numerous times. We purchased this vehicle thinking it would be safe and reliable for our kids. Boy were we wrong! these vehicles should be off the streets! unfortunately it's my only vehicle and it's financed, so now I am stuck driving my kids in this death trap. Chrysler needs to do something about this! these vehicles are made for families, how dare you put so many lives in danger to make a buck! recall these now!.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

Sometime overnight on Jan 1/2nd 2019 my vehicle started on fire. The vehicle was not in use, was parked in our driveway, and had not been in use since the morning before. The fire must have went out on its own. But caused damage to both the inside and outside of the vehicle. The inside of the van smells heavily of electrical smoke.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

My car stops while driving down the road without warning, easily restarts after shifting into neutral. However, rpm goes to zero, lose power steering. Did not have this issue prior to key fob recall. It has done this several times, usually when weather is colder like 30 degree. Have also notice blind spot aid system will periodically not function. Heated seat light occasionally do not function. The blind spot and heated seats are minor compared to car stopping dead. It did recently while going around a curve and was very scary. I've taken it to two different dealers and they state there are no engine codes showing. I told my husband if I die in a vehicle crash, especially if rear ended or while turning to sue Chrysler. Do not have this problem in warm weather. I'm afraid to have anyone in my vehicle, especially my five grandkids. I stay off interstates because of this, and have spent more time looking behind me for possibly getting rear ended. There is no warning when this might happen. One dealership told me to bring it in when it happens, which I have no idea when it will happen. Its like playing russian roulette while getting behind the wheel. This can happen anytime, driving 55, 35, 25 mph, while going straight, or twice while turning. I think it has to do with the electrical system, or perhaps the ignition system and key fob recall. My car has 84330 miles. It's happened three times in the last two months. Frequency seems to be getting greater.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

All of a sudden the whole vehicle completely shuts down. No lights, power steering goes out, brakes lock up and engine shuts down. This was in the middle of the road as I was driving.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

My vehicle will stop after I have finished driving it. This has happened quite frequently. I will have to jump start my battery and then the engine will start. It usually happens when the car has been sitting overnight or for longer periods of time (meaning over 6 hours). I have already replaced the battery and took the car to a mechanic. The mechanic said it a big problem with Chrysler town and county. The fuel pump relay is not working right and causing my battery to drain or not start. He said there are recalls for very similar cars and models, but checked my VIN and it was not on my vehicle. I need to the company to look into this as this seems like a problem that could have been prevented. This could be dangerous if the car stops on its own while driving.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2018

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2017

The vehicle was in park and running in a parking lot. The van had been running and in motion for approximately 10 minutes prior to arriving at the parking lot where it was then placed into park and left running while waiting for my kids to get out of school. Radio on, heat on then with no warning at all the vehicle shut off, lost all power. I was unable to remove the key from the ignition. It would not go into the off position allowing me to remove the key. I tried to turn the key to the various positions to start the car and nothing happened. Auto locks would not unlock, the car was completely dead. I sat for about 5 minutes in a panic trying to figure out how cars I was blocking were going to get out of their parking spots. Then the van suddenly started up on its own. My hands were not on the keys, nowhere near the ignition and it just started up. What would have happened if this occurred while I was driving and in motion and even worse traveling at a high speed???? there should be a recall on this issue as it is a major safety concern. The vehicle did receive the recall fix for the issue with ignition a couple years back and now I wonder if that was even the real issue since my van randomly shut off on me for no reason at all whatsoever. I don't know if there are any other official reports but a google search pulls up many others having the same issue this year with various years of the town and country and the reports are recent.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2016

Tpms (tire pressure monitor system) gives false warnings of tires losing pressure. The flashing yellow dashboard warning lights and audible alarm sounds and the dash display switches to show the four tire pressures. One by one the pressure of each of the four tires switches to horizontal lines until all four tire pressures are shown as horizontal lines. Meanwhile after many seconds the warning light becomes a steady yellow light. This steady yellow light and false flat tire readings continue for many miles (which can be over 50 miles). Sometimes parking and turning off the ignition resets the system. Sometimes restarting the vehicle just has it continue with the false readings. The false readings happen on smooth expressways and other roads as well. Sometimes they happen several times within a week. Other times weeks go by between false readings. The false audible and warning light are safety hazards because they are distracting, especially when it happens in a construction zone. This is a one owner vehicle and has been the subject of numerous complaints to the selling dealer about this issue. The dealer has been unable to repair the defect despite changing the module and tire sensors. Their history confirms failed repair efforts to fix the problem for several years at least back to November 3, 2016 despite being shown videos of the problem while the problem takes place.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2016

I went out and started my van, the wipers turned on automatically so I thought maybe I had turned the handle somehow. . . So I turned it off and that's when everything went wrong. All the dash lights started flashing and cycling through start up checks and then saying everything is off abs, airbags etc. The seat was even repositioning itself. I took out my phone and started recording this weird episode that I have never seen before. I bought this van 5 months ago and don't know of its history, but this is not something anyone should have to deal with. 3 days later my wife was driving down the road when this started happening to her, the difference was that she sits closer to steering wheel then I do and the seat was jerking her back and forth while driving and scared her. Thanks dumbasses. I bought this van because I wanted the stow and go seats and side curtain safety along with everything else. My van is a loaded limited edition with most available options. After looking around the internet it seems like the tipm or a loose connection could be the problem and that dealerships are pretty much a waste of time for help on this. Chrysler knows of the issues because it happens across their vehicles and have only fixed certain models. The fact that a cracked shorting wire in the power door or a loose connector could cause all this is to go wrong is just poor engineering. . Read more...

The driver used the +/- shift control to return the car to gear 6. At the same time, the tire pressure monitor system said that it had failed and then recovered after five minutes.
