Rear passenger side caliper sticking, causing a small fire. Had to replace the entire rear caliper and bleed the system. This is a death hazard the dealer and Chrysler corperation were notified. I spoke to steve standers from Chrysler at 586-274-8086. This is from an on going issue they Chrysler was warned about before it happened they failed to proceed to take proper action and put my family at risk of death.
Brakes are requiring replacement way too often. Numerous report on web indicate this is a manufacturers defect related to poor parts/excessive wear. I was told today that it will be $648 to replace the front pads and all the parts (rotor, caliper, pads) on both rear wheels. The automotive center told me this degree of wear is excessive for a vehicle with only 57000 miles on it. The van was bought used at 31000 and I have no info on whether there were brake problems prior to that. Some owners are reporting having to have replaced brakes (pads plus other components) three times before their vehicles reached 50000 miles.
Chrysler knows the breaking system on its 2010 (and other model years) is defective but they refuse to provide a solution to it's customers. The brake pads and calipers are not large enough for the vehicles size and weight which causes the brakes to overheat and warp the rotors in a very short period. This leads to brake pedal pulsation and excessive dangerous steering wheel shake which can cause an accident. My particular vehicle has had multiple sets of pads, rotors and calipers replaced during the warranty period and now that the vehicle is out of warranty I find myself having to pay for brake parts/service out of my own pocket. This vehicle only has 33,000 miles on it and it shouldn't have had any brake work yet but instead, it's had multiple brake services. Please make Chrysler issue a recall for the brakes on these vehicles and require Chrysler to redesign the system with new parts as opposed to the same defective replacement parts.
The parking brake pull off spring on the right rear wheel snapped in half. This caused the parking brake to remain engaged even after it was disengaged by the driver from the driver's seat. The right rear brake assembly (caliper, rotor, disc pads) overheated. Driver noticed loud clicking noise coming from right rear wheel after completing short trip. The noise apparently was from the expansion/contraction of the very hot metal dust cover around the brake assembly. Spouse found broken spring hanging from right rear parking brake assembly and installed temporary spring until new part came in the next day. Mopar part# 68039257aa (spring-parking brake). Spouse ordered second new spring figuring same thing might happen to left rear brake. On backorder. Chrysler Town & Country limited with 4. 0l v-6 and towing package. Owner still has old spring in possession.
Burning rubber smell around the rear brake area. Took it in to the dealer immediately and they determined 2 problems. The caliper d's were bad which was covered under warranty and the brakes were bad and had to be replaced. This is approximately our tenth Chrysler van we have leased and never have we had to replace the brakes.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact heard a noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle and took it to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated the rear brakes failed and the rear rotor, pads and calipers had to be replaced. The contact stated the failure was a manufacturers defect. The failure mileage on the vehicle was 22,000 and the current mileage was 26,000.
Left rear brake howling. It has gotten worse to now where the ld bake caliper and rotor must be replaced. The right rear is likely not working as the rotor is rusty. The front brake pads are 1/2 or more worn out. The car has only 9400 miles on it. Chrysler says the 36 month warranty has expired and I am now totally responsible. Less than 10,000 miles and the brakes are shot! .
