"p0740" obd2 code, causing vehicle to fail state safety inspection. Issue is due to a defect within the transmission, very common with the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. "dealer only repair" , very costly. Serious safety issue. Vehicle cannot be diagnosed by most certified mechanics. This faulty reading could mask very serious issues with the transmission. When decelerating from over 45 mph engine light comes on shifts suddenly to 3rd or 2nd gear. Codes p0733 p0734 p0792. Clear engine codes, drives normal until deceleration at elevated speeds. Transmission shifts normally otherwise. This is the 62te 6-speed transmission.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Fuel pump relay prematurely fails inside the total integrated power module (tipm) causing loss of control while driving. The fuel relay fuse is not replaceable as it is hard wired inside the tipm. The entire tipm unnecessarily needs replaced at great expense and labor of nearly $1,800 for what should be an inexpensive fuse. Other Chrysler/ Dodge/ Jeep vehicles have been recalled and repaired for the same issue, but not the Chrysler Town & Country minivans. The manufacturer and its dealerships is avoiding a recall so that this model ages out and permanently disposed so that it doesn't have to do a recall.

4 Power Train problem

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

The transmission has know issues of slippage. This slippage caused me to roll backwards at an major intersection and almost cause a accident. This Chrysler town and country has had hundreds of complaints in the last few years but this type of malfunction due to the slippage on the transmission could result in fatalities. This needs to be addressed this has went on the entire time we have owned the Chrysler town and country now it just gets worse and worse by the day.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

My van started to have problems with the rpm, surging from 2 to 5 and then to 6 or 7 rpm with speeds ranging from 40mph to 65 mph. The van also sort of stalls for seconds which makes it terrifying. We took the van to bob caldwell in columbus ohio three times to repair the issue and they updated the software, added fluid to the transmission and allegedly "drove the car for 60 miles" yet couldn't duplicate the issue. All the times that this has happened the car was running. The first time only happened when going 65 or 70 miles per hour on the highway but now it happens on regular roads when traveling 40 mph. I don't know if this related but earlier this year, my car was sent to bob caldwell because it stall/ stop completely while being driven. . . . The problem with the rpm started 3 months later and just last month it wouldn't start. They said the changed the gasket this time but my problem persist.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2017

Car powered off while driving 3 diffrent times today. Van lost all power. Started right up after.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler town and country. While attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to operate. The vehicle was towed to autonation Jeep (16300 w colfax Ave, golden, CO 80401) where it was diagnosed that the power train control module needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced twice, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to operate with the key, but not with the remote. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster panel and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but, when the technician tested the vehicle, it misfired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

For a week I had trouble getting vehicle to start, on 9/10/15 only 5 months after buying vehicle it starting loosing power while I was driving 45 mph down a busy highway. No lights came on indicating there was no power it just started slowing down, so I pulled over which was very hard to do because the steering wheel was tight and the brakes were tight as well. Finally got it to crank so I could get to a safe place off of the side of the road. I had it towed to a local mechanic who stated it was fuel pump but he wanted dealership look at it to be sure that was the only thing. They towed in on 9/16/15. Was not able to get it fixed until 9/23/15, when I had my husband take me to pick it up. I drove it across town to work, at lunch would not crank. They had to tow it back to dealership where they informed me there was a bad connector and was fixing that. After fixing that still would not crank so they have been going wire for wire trying to find out the problem because the tipm is on national backorder so unable to get a new one for now. It has been 3 weeks without my van.

The approximate failure mileage was 46,319.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2015

2011 t&c, 50300 miles, having several ongoing problems with hard starts, hard shifting, power doors not staying open, closes automatically, extremely poor gas mileage. Have had into dealer several times for these issues while under warranty and now again having problems and of course vehicle out of warranty. Vehicle has started by its self and have found power doors open when I returned to my vehicle. My current main problem is the ongoing issue of hard starts and now problem has escalated to crank and crank no fire, have to attempt several times (20-30), vehicle then will eventually fire rpm race to 3-4000rpms then stall, again several times of shutting off and attempting to start, eventually it starts sometimes taking 30 minutes to get it running. Also just today while driving vehicle attempted to stall rpms decrease, thankfully it did not stall as I was driving with my children in the vehicle in rush hour traffic. Definitely very concerned as this is a serious safety issue and an inconvenience. What happens when you are driving on the freeway going 70mph and the vehicle stalls, Chrysler definitely needs to do something due to severity of a safety issue.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

Check engine light is on and I tested it with my carmd and it showed 2 codes p0792 (intermediate shaft speed sensor a circuit range/performance) and p0734 (gear 4 incorrect ratio). We have also been told that the brakes need replacing and it only has 47,668 miles on the vehicle.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

This accident happened to my wife on driveway when the van was parked. My wife was about to leave for shopping when she realised she forgot something in the house she decided to go back in the house(engine was running) and my 14 year old was sitting in the van, she got out of the van went from the back of van into the garage, as my wife was entering garage she noticed van has started to roll back as my son was inside the van she immediately ran to pull him out or stop the van, as she was moving with van trying to pull my son out she fell and got dragged by the van entire length of the driveway, luckily my son held her hand otherwise van would have rolled over her. She is 100% sure that she put it in the park because she walked around from back of the van to get into garage, if the van was in n or r she wouldnt have been able to walk from behind and would have noticed it immediately. As a result of this accident she has multiple fractures in the lower back, fractured ribs and acetabulum.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2013

At the time of incident was driving on a freeway were some vibrations when I pressed the brakes from 60-65 mph. While I exit and to check out I felt some pulsation on the brake pedals in about 10-15 mph. I brought the minivan at the dealer and they said front rotors are warped and brake pads are not usable. They replaced the front rotors and the pads as part of they extended warranty. I think Chrysler knew that's there's issue that's why they extend the warranty. They tested and after that they said there's pulsation and found out that my rear rotors were bad as well and needed machining to my expense @$300 because the extended warranty is only for front brakes. After about 4,000 miles during the regular oil they recommended me that on next visit I have to change my rear brakes as well to my expense. I think this issue has not been fixed. We drive as normal, we dont drag brakes but within 15,000 miles I think premature brake wear on both sides is not normal. This is a safety concern. I do not trust this issue this should be a safety concern. Chrysler do not give me a definite answer, they just said it's normal and how we drive. Also transmission have hesitations on some uphill freeways and shudders when backing up.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

On a steep hill in drive the vehicle rolls backward if you take your foot off the brake. This is very dangerous and dealer says is normal.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

When stopped on an incline, in drive, when the brake is released the vehicle rolls back, as if in neutral.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2012

On some transmission shifts from range to another, both upshift and downshift, slowing down to speeding up, there would be a sound simular to what a worn u-joint makes when it needs replacing. The sound would happen regardless of vehicle speed. Could not be heard on hard acceleration. Dealer work order stated that they tightened 2 axle nuts. What would have happened if the come completely off???? to me this is definately a safety issue.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2012

Our new 2011 Chrysler town and country purchased on 1/28/2012 was manufactured in 5/2011. The touring l model is equipped with econ mode that, when engaged, provides alternative gear changing for economical driving. The first gear change, at about 10mph, stutters with a clunk sound and loss of rpm. I contacted the dealer soon after purchase about this problem. The dealer does not have a fix and has advised Chrysler. Since that time I have learned that this is an ongoing problem for the t & c vehicles with the econ mode feature. Chrysler has recently advised the dealer that they are working on a fix. I was also told not to use this feature. There is an immediate need to fix this problem for this long-term Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge owner who didn't expect to purchase a defective vehicle. I am not aware of any recall notice or technical service bulletin on this item. Note that technical service bulletins 1803711 and 1804311 have not been identified in your listing for this vehicle.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

Transmission clunks when shifting into reverse. Does this frequently. Noted it first a few thousand miles ago, still doing it, also noted that it rolls back when on a slight incline when at a stop sign on a hill, maybe part of the same probably or more problems with Chrysler transmissions, or they forgot to put in a rollback preventer in these new designs.
