general problems of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country - part 2

While driving my Town & Country on both city streets and highway the engine randomly shuts off to include all instrument panel lights on the dash. After coming to a complete stop I simply turn the key to try to re-start and it does. This has happened several times in the last month. I finally took it to the dealer and they could not determine the cause. They did some software updates and sent me on my way. The very next day it happened again. The dealer said that if it happened again that they would need to replace the catalytic converter. Catalytic converter? seriously doubt this is what is causing the vehicle to completely shut off. This is very dangerous and can be deadly.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chrysler town and country. When the vehicle was started, the engine rattled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the bearings were faulty and needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

On our 2012 town and country , we had replaced tipm on 2/18. After replacement , vehicle would still turn off in mid-drive , not turn on at all nor turnover many times . I believe it's a huge safety issue to not have any codes show up, the dealer after replacing tipm ( parts and labor $1400), they can't find issue which causes a large safety concern as my girlfriend and children are left to drive a vehicle that can intermittently turn off mid drive . It seems manufacturers know of this problem but no recalls have been issued nor a fix .

So me and my family we're heading to a birthday party on u. S. Highway 64 going to huntsville alabama and we was about ten minutes out from our city in winchester tennessee and all of the sudden the van turns its self off at approximately at 50 miles an hour and lost all power to vehicle and power steering was out then there was a simi truck behind us and I guess he thought we was slowing down on purpose and blowed his horn and passed by. We managed to get the van to the shoulder in the grass and called a tow truck. The tow truck driver tryed to boost the van up and it started then died again so we had to have it towed in. We called Chrysler and they didn't help at all but to tell us to take it to the dealership which they was closed so I fixed it my self and all it was is a bad alternator. There should be some kind of warning when this stuff is going to happen because it was a scary situation at a high speed with your family with you.

Vehicle has a rough idle at complete stops in the city and also while driving at slow speeds. Engine produced a misfire at #6 cylinder. Problem continued after repair. All spark plugs replaced to no effect. Engine produced a #2 cylinder misfire. Code cleared itself. Engine still idles poorly/rough at stops. I believe the problem to has been determined to be the left cylinder head.

Fly wheel flex plate it was a sound like marbles rattling in a tin can at idle and at low speed . It wound up being the fly wheel / flex plate cracking all around the bolt pattern. My mechanic found and repaired it before it blew apart.

This car is need camshafts, gaskets and valve arms in both side plus more the car only has 64,000 I put only 18,000 in 2 years keep the car up to date with oil change been complaining since day one that something is wrong with the car had a diagnostic by one Chrysler dealer paid by the private dealer I bought the car from and cut not find anything wrong with it after a year of it the car need camshafts, valve arms in both sides and gaskets for a cost of 1,100. One of the parts was under guarantee by Chrysler like the left side but not the right side.

Engine was running rough with engine light on. Took to autozone to see what was the code to problem. They said cylinder #2 misfire. Took van to get serviced. They replaced all spark plugs and cylinder # 2 coil pack. All work done in March 2017. Took trip to central California and in arizona engine light comes on. Upon arriving at my destination, I took van to autozone to check code. Cylinder #2 misfire. Come back to san antonio and take to shop to get repaired. Light is off and van runs great. 2 days later engine light on! autozone, cylinder #2 misfire. Took to shop and mechanic said that we will have to do this all the time. He has been working on 3 other Town & Country's with the same problem but they have misfires in cylinders #6, cyl. # 4 or cyl. #2. What can be done????.

My car has shut off 4 times while driving in 4 separate dates randomly. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times. The times the car has shut off has been while driving at speeds about 20km per hour. Luckily there was no traffic during these 4 events. The first two times the dealership did not know what it was so they sent us home. The 3rd time we went they replaced the crankshaft sensors but as we have been driving it seems like the problem may come back again. Time will tell if it got fixed or not. Hopefully we are not involved in a traffic accident by then because of this issue. This issue began in January of this 2017.

Alternator burned out at 60,850 miles sitting in parking lot.

Our 2012 Chrysler town and country won't start. The dealer said it is a tipm malfunction and fuel pump malfunction. They want to replace them both. They refuse to help us with the repair cost. We are stranded in cancun, mexico.

This incident has happened about 10 times now, so I thought I should report it. I will start my vehicle by tapping the brake and pressing the engine button. The car ignition turns on as normal. I proceed to put the vehicle in reverse to get out of the parking space and the engine has died without my knowledge. My steering wheel cannot turn at all, the gas pedal does nothing, the car is dead at this point. I have to slam on the brake to not slide into traffic or the car parked behind me. I put the car in park and "turn off" the engine and restart it. This has happened several times, but it only occurs when I'm starting up the vehicle, not when I'm already going: it has never "died" or "turned off" while I was driving it. This just started happening in the last few weeks and it has happened regularly and it is scary when it happens, so I thought I should report it.

2012 Chrysler Town & Country. Consumer writes in regards to cylinder head problems and unsatisfactory customer service at manufacturer headquarters. The consumer stated while driving, the engine light illuminated. The problem was determined to be the left side cylinder head, which was leaking, and had to be replaced.

Engine dies right after starting, some times 2 or 3 consecutive times. Some times when engine starts, sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders. Also at times the wipers come by them selves, even when it's not raining!.

1 week after I bought my van the car started vibrating when the vehicle was stopped (waiting at the light). I went to the dealer to ask them if there was a recall for this problem they first say that there was no problem and then I read that there was a recall for some vehicles having debris on the engines, so they replaced half of the heads in the engine. The vehicle stopped vibrating, but then I notice that when speeding or slowing down the vehicle does not responds to the change in gears or isn’t accelerating like it should. Also while coming to a stop the transmission would not downshift causing the car to lunge forward. It would vibrate when coming to stop.

A month after buying the van, it started cutting off while driving causing it to be almost impossible to steer. Luckily I was where I could pull over every time. It was taken to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. Another time it did it my husband took it back for a recall part but they told us that part had nothing to do with it cutting off. The most serious time occurred on 4/29/14 during rush hour 5:00 pm)getting on i85 in gastonia, nc merging onto i85 and the van cut off. I couldn't have been going over 25 miles and everything shut down. I was lucky to get it in the emergency lane. I have never been so scared in all my life. I had my daughter/granddaughter screaming/crying. No way any of us would have survived if I had made it to the inner lane. This time a new light came on the dash. Told it was a throttle light, many attempts to start the van, it didn't start. I called lake norman (bought there)and was told there's a place in gastonia. I called and explained what happened and asked for a tow truck. The van was towed to gastonia Chrysler. The service tech tried to start it with no luck. He said was better then it starting and resetting everything. He called the next day and everything was reading right on his machines. He told me he was going to drop the gas tank and take the fuel pump out. When he ran it this time the fuel pump had no fuel pressure. He also said there was no gas, in which I had a little over a quarter of a tank on the fuel gauge. He said fuel pump was defective. Replaced it at $777. 92. It is sept and starting it again the jerking like the engine and transmission is gonna fall out. This van engines were recalled for debris in engine thruoct 2011. My engine was built in Nov. Engine needs replaced. Now my stereo turns off and fuses are good. Please help, I see other recalls on Chryslers with similar problems.

On 4 occasions I was sitting at a stop light and had my left foot on the brake pedal and my right foot resting in the gas pedal. . . . . Sitting just a few moments when the car surged forward,if I had not had my foot on the brake pedal I would have been into the car ahead of me. . . . I latter tried to remake the problem happen ,but the only thing was a heavy pull against the applied brakes. . . . The problem was not a heavy pull but a quick jerk like a down shift. . . . . . The local Chrysler dealer knows of no problems of this type,,,,but when it happens again they will check it out.
