Vehicle shuts off while key is in the run position. This has happened multiple times. There are no special circumstances when it happens. It may happen when starting or shifting into gear. It has happened while driving both in city and country driving. While driving all systems shut off including the headlights, power steering, power brakes etc. . . This has happened to me while driving at night just as I was approaching a corner. It also is a hazard to oncoming traffic as the vehicle goes dark and would be hard to see. If you hold in on the key sometimes the vehicle restarts on its own if you are still moving sometimes it doesnt. If you hold in on the key the vehicle will continue to run fine. It doesn't matter if you are holding speed accelerating, turning,or going straight. This is definitely a problem with the ignition switch which should be replaced however research has made me decide this is not just a single vehicle problem so I am making an official complaint out of fear of injury to the public. This style switch should be recalled in my opinion. Thank you for your time.
2013 Chrysler Town & Country touring van. To our surprise, shortly after owning the vehicle it would randomly just shut off all power while driving on the road or expressway. The first time this occurred we were on I-75 when all power stopped, the quickest thought was to put the van in neutral and restart the vehicle. We began to attempt to problem solve and kept zoning in on the fob and ignition area. My daughter and I were driving trying to re-enact a time it had stalled when I had gone over a speed bump. I began to tap the fob and it completely lost power and shut down. Each time the fob was tapped the power would shut down. (we took video on our phone). We were elated to finally have an answer. My son in law who is very savvy in automobiles and researching on line found there were over three hundred (300) complaints for this exact issuea faulty ignition switch. We had taken this vehicle in to two reputable car repair service centers, one being a Chrysler dealer and neither could duplicate the problem. Once we targeted (solved) the issue, I took it to my reputable service center who confirmed it indeed was a faulty ignition switch. I felt the need to express my heart as this is/was a very disturbing situation to be driving and randomly without warning have this van completely shut down in very busy day to day traffic. Also during all this my husband unexpectantly passed away as we were trying to find a resolution for this, fortunately I persevered to solve the problem as no one else could figure it out. I am hoping you will take into consideration my plight for restitution for the emotional, physical, financial and most of all the safety distress this situation has had on my life. I hope Chrysler will stand by its superior quality and standards. I have high regard for the minivans through the years as this was the third one we have owned.

Vehicle will crank with ignition switch in on position. However, it will keep cranking and wont start. After a couple tries it will finally roll over and start. Vehicle has turned off while idle for no reason but will start after a couple of cranks.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler town and country. After removing the key from the ignition switch and exiting the vehicle, the engine remained active. The contact had to re-insert the key in the ignition to shut off the engine. After stopping the vehicle, the contact was unable to remove the key from the ignition switch and the gear lever failed to shift out of the park position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but no further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 26,000.
Nothing. That is the problem. I was notified in may, 2014 about the switch. The dealer disconnected the switch in June. Now, I get a "new" notice with same information showing notice date of "Dec 2014". That is not true. I have a 40,000 dollar vehicle that has the switch disconnected for almost a year!!!!! when I went there recently, they said they could not reconnect!!! that is [xxx], sir! furthermore, I believe the dealer has been taking credit for this action more than one time, recently (April, 2015) showing on an oil change receipt where the switch was disconnected by the technician. The switch has been disconnected since June 2014. Please notify owners to have their cars reconnected until part is in, if they wish to---I have not had the use of rear vent since June, 2014. Now, I just received another, same notice, for disconnect of same switch. Chrysler is violating some law, I am sure, but do not know how you can send out a notice to have repairs done in 2014, then, send another one a year later like as if it did not happen, then the dealer gets paid three times for one action. I want the switch reconnected! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
