The problem is with the transmission. First problem was discovered in December 2005. The dealer fixed the problem. Next problem occurred March 22. He car was towed to the dealer and it's still there until this time. Talked to the dealer and daimler Chrysler corporation a number of times and have not heard of any good news either from the dealer or daimler Chrysler corporation. We need help and assistance because we I really don't know what's going on.
I was vacuuming my 1999 Chrysler Town & Country van before church when my 1 year old son pulled the shifter out of park and the van rolled down our driveway. The drivers door struck a tree causing $1800 damage. The keys to the van were in my pocket. Chrysler was contacted and sent an investigator out to determine what had occurred. I never received a copy of the investigation and contacted Chrysler to obtain a copy and was told by them that I would need a court subpoena to have a copy sent to me. My van taken to the local dealer by the Chrysler investigator to determine what was wrong. I was not given a copy of what they found and Chrysler would not send one as well without a subpoena. While the van was at the body shop, I noticed that nothing was done to correct the fact that the van can be taken out of park without keys in the ignition. Chrysler had the opportunity to fix this while they were doing their investigation and did nothing.

- the contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. While driving 20 mph or more and accelerating the steering pulled to the right. The faster the vehicle was driven the more it moved to the right. The vehicle had an alignment, the tires rotated and replaced and the failure recurred. Five dealers stated after diagnosing the vehicle that the transmission caused the failure to occur. At the time of purchase the sales person astated that the vehicle only needed an alignment. The contact stated that the failure was directly related to NHTSA recall 03v240000. The failure mileage was unavailable. Current mileage was 47,000.

On numerous occasions since owning our 1997 town and country Chrysler van,
anytime we have run into an even slight puddle, turning left onto our street, we have completely lost all power and unable to turn. . . . Running into the neighbor's yard. . . . Where children have played, at times. We reported such to our dealer with their saying that "no one has ever reported this. " apparently, they have now. We would like it fixed please, at no cost to us. Also, our transmission for two years works and then doesn't work, with our having to drive off the road, turn off the van, and turn back on in order to have it shift properly. . . . Especially when the air conditioning has been on. We would like that fixed, too, with no cost to us. . . . For it must be a defect as it hasn't quit completely. Thank you,

My wife and bought our town and country 2 months ago. We left the dealership thinking we had a reliable van. Two weeks ago my wife was driving our four children to school when she was at the stop ligh and getting ready to move in to traffic when the van jolted foward and started to shake. Immidetly the check engein light came on and she called me. I then called the dealership and they told me to bring it up. Now the dealership is about 45 min. From my house. On the way up I lose power 3 times and then would get it to catch. I made it to there exit and lost all power and control. Our van was towed in at our expence and we were called the next day to inform us the could not due the work it had to be sent out. When they placed it on the machine 4 numbers were regerstering. We then had to wait for a inspector to fly down to determin if the problem was under warranty. It was determined that it was and that the transfer pump and case were the problem and a new transsmission installed. We had to pay $249. 00 because that was not covered under the warranty. We received our vechicle on Thursday and on Friday it was towed back to the dealership because any time you excerated it would shake the van. We were then told we could have a rental at there expence this was a hassel in its self wasting the whole day with getting one. We receved a call Monday saying they couldn't get the problem to dublicate. And was once again returned to us on Tuesday. Today is wednessday and we are currently fighting with the dealership due to the fact the problem is still there. I am at my wits end. How can a vechicle that has 65,000 miles have so many problems. I choose this vechicle because the manuf. Has a good reputation. I just want my van to run right. To ensure my children and wife make it to and from work and school safely. Besides the headacs we bothhave lose hours at work running back and forth and needs some help. Thanks.

The consumer stated the transmission locked up while driving. The vehicle was towed and upon inspection it was discovered the transmission contained chunks of metal. The planetary had disintegrated.
I purchased my van in August of 2003. I noticed the brakes were squeaking and took it to the dealer to have them checked out. I was told that my front brackes had 15-20% of the pad left and that they should be replaced and the rotars turned . Tthe vehicle has only 22,000 miles on it. It seems to me that brakes should last longer than 22,000 miles. I was told I must do allot of "city driving"
I am now experiencing "rough, delayed shifting at about 15 mph. Hesitation, clunk. The transmission has "slipped" out of gear while driving and also rough downshifting. I certainly expected a better quality manufactured vehiicle than what I have experienced so far. I doubt I will ever purchase another vehicle from Chrysler!!.

On 2/28/05 my 2001 Chrysler town and country engine light activated at the same time I noticed a burning chemical smell (burning transmission fluid). This was a prelude to a blown transmission which is what happened. The garage could not move my vehicle due to the wheel lock. I have 79,000 miles and have had nothing but problems with this vehicle and based upon many web boards I am not alone. In the past 4 years I have spent over $4,000 (on top of the $20,000 price tag) on vehicle maintenance that should not occur at 79,000 miles. To anyone reading this - pay the extra $$$ for a Honda, Toyota or Nissan because you will get your money back!!!!.
I have a 96 Chrysler t&c van the transmission was replaced almost 30 months and 38 k miles ago after it broke a shaft on the inside at 101k miles. Came to a stop at conner went to go forwarded and the van was in neutral in gear position. Dealer did not want to open it up just replace with new remanufactured from Chrysler. Said they were all doing that. Now the replacement unit just broke a shaft for the third gear (bad weld). This is on a transmission with only 38525 miles on it. This was a new transmission when it came out in 1996 and now with 2 broken shafts on two transmissions in the same van, what is wrong with their product and this picture? who would of tunk it?
I placed 165k miles on a 1991 Dodge dakota without any transmission problems. What happens if the shafts break when someone is trying to get on the highway in front of 70,000 lbs of moving truck? trucks do not stop on a dime. Do you want your family in that kind of scenario? I do not think that most of voting americans do either. I live in a city, which has at seven out of the top ten of the most dangerous intersections in the entire state of alabama. When you place a car into drive, you expect it to go most all the time. You do not want to have to think am I going to be in an accident or maybe kill my family because the transmission is going to blow up, breaks welds, or break a shafts if I pull out now or not.

I was cleaning out my van on Friday, February 4, 2005 after work while my 3 kids played outside. My van started rolling backward down the driveway (in park, car off, key out of ignition enough so it wouldn't beep at me) my 8 year old daughter had been sitting in the driveway behind my van drawing with sidewalk chalk. She had gotten up to get something out of her dad's car just in time to avoid being run over. My passenger door was open and so was his so they collided as my van rolled backwards down the drive. I hopped in the van and tried to apply the brake, but the only thing that stopped my van from rolling in to the road was his car. They "locked" together. I contacted Chrysler and they did send an inspector out, but a couple weeks later denied any responsibility. I am very thankful that my daughter was not behind my van and hurt or killed by this freak accident, but needed to record this incident in case others have similar problems.
While driving at highway speed, transmission violently downshifted causing temporary loss of control. A complete rebuild of transmission is underway.
Vehicle slipped out of the park and rolled down a hill hitting a tree. Vehicle was towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While driving vehicle stopped. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and dealer indicated that transmission was defective.
While driving 55 mph, the transmission lost power. The vehicle was unable to accelerate. Please provide more information.
When driving vehicle stalled. Had to be put in neutral to restart. Consumer took vehicle to four mechanics and no one could find anything. Then, consumer took it back to where it was bought and the mechanic said they had problems before on town and country vehicles with stalling.
While driving 70 mph engine light illuminated. Transmission lost power. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While vehicle was parked on small incline on the street and the key was taken out of the ignition switch vehicle roll down the hill and stopped in a ditch at 335 feet from the place where vehicle was parked. Dealership and manufacturer was not helpful.
Consumer noticed that after shifting vehicle from park to drive and when accelerator pedal was depressed vehicle would not move forward. Dealership serviced vehicle and noticed that transmission needed to be replaced.
Transmission needed to be rebuilt at 60,000 miles because the service engine light came on while driving, and the transmission stayed in first gear only.
2000 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. Purchased used with 39000 miles, 11 months and 9k miles later, with only 47000 miles on the minivan I had to replace the transmission. Chrysler refused to pay and stated it was not part of any recall. I have since sold this minivan, but still feel Chrysler hasa problem transmission and should repay me for the transmission and my rental car I had to use.
Purchased 2004 Chrysler Town & Country on Jan. 2, 2004 with 6 miles. Transmission light came on first time at 5,940 miles on March 24, 2004. Gears stick and it jumps into gears when I put on brakes or remove my foot from the brakes, make turns, etc. Long story, three dealerships and five trips later, still doing the same thing.
It sounded like an explosion. The van began to decelerate and the steering began to lock within about 10 seconds of the explosion sound. The van stopped and the tires locked up.
At 50,000 miles my transmission went and chrylser will do nothing to help. A transmission sholud not go at this mileage. I was with my two little kids on a highway and we were lucky we didn't get killed. Not only did chrylser refuse to help, I was treated so horribly by thier "customer service" person, I was astounded. Chysler obviously has big transmissions problems and they can't possibly help all of us. They lost my vote.
47,000 on a single owner 2001 town and country - serviced regularly - fluids checked at oil changes. I also know of another 2001 town and country owner whose transmission went out at 52,000.
The transmission went out at 72,000 miles. Chrysler town and country 604e transmission.
At any speed vehicle will not accelerate or maintain power. Dealer examined vehicle and determined that a new transmission was needed.
Transmission blew up at while driving. No injuries reported. All the gears were damaged beyond repair.
My 2001 Chrysler t&c ex only has 52,000 miles on it. I do not tow or haul any heavy material with it, but yet I need a new tranmission costing $3,200. 00. The check engine light came on and the next day it failed. I took it back to the dealer and was informed that 5 seperate things were wrong with the transmission. Since I was over the 36,000 miles it was not covered under warranty. I asked the mechanic how 5 things were wrong with the transimission that only has 52,000 miles and not be defective and covered under a warranty and he replied " it does seem odd that 5 things failed with it only having 52,000 miles. " I called Chrysler to asked that it be fixed as a warranty, the same thing I had to do when the a/c failed and was later recalled, and they made it seem that it was my fault for not purchasing the extended warranty. I ask that since at least 13 other people, according to your complaint database, have had transmission trouble that this be investigated. A car that is only 3 years old, having 52,000 miles on it and is not used for towing or heavy hauling should not need a new transmission and if so sould be covered under warranty since it was apparently defective. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Transmission started a whining sound at about 48,000 miles. This sound is just audible when driving around town. However, after 2 hours on the highway at 65mph it becomes very pronounced. If engine is shut off for 10 minutes the loud whine is back to a "normal" level. This appears to affect nothing else in the vehicle's operation. But it certainly can't be considered normal. We fear taking the van on the road since something in the transmission appears ready for self distruction. Other than a failed battery at 2 years (about 46,000 miles) this is the only problem experienced. This t&c lxi with all the options except power tailgate and 52,000 miles (mostly highway) has been an excellent vehicle to date and this obviously coming transmission problem at this early stage is a disappointment to say the least.
Ny 2001 Town & Country with 39,000 miles is not 3 years old. The computer that operates the transmission went out and had to be replaced. It cost $450. 00 to replace this item. After calling Chrysler to complain about poor quality their response was that I should of purchased and extended warranty and there is nothing they can do for me. Maybe Chrysler should consider building a better product. In fact, I am going to sell this vehicle and never ever purchase a Chrysler product again. They don't stand behind their products.
Consumer continued to have problems with transmission that was repaired. The transmission continued to be a problem especially when the vehicle was cold.
