2 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

The back seats have no safety design whatsoever. I was in the back trying to install a carseat in the one seat and pushed the button to fold the bench into normal use position and it started up normal, and a tiny bit of the carseat was bumping into it when it got stuck, I attempted to push it back to the left side down position again to remove the seat and it refused to stop. . . It kept going after pushing it 10+ times and eventually started grinding and then continued to twist the left side metal bracket that helps the seat move. It now will not go up again and I am terrified to even have a child seated back there after seeing how neglectful the design is to safety for the third row seating.

3 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

The van has a known issue with its maker- Chrysler which is with motor of the stow-n-go. The back seat the motor does not work on half of the seat making the seat look "bent" and unable to be used. Upon further research it was discovered that this is something that the maker is aware of and many of the motors go out. This is why it's a very hard part to replace costing about 4000 as it needs to be made brand new. The warranty is expired. The frustration is that mopar (Chrysler) will not even consider offering any kind of assistance with this issue as the above mentioned warranty expired. This, however is a known problem to them. They are keeping quiet about as they can't call it a recall when it's not considered a "safety" concern. It is a safety concern as if my child can't sit in the seat. We were told that the seat is not safe to sit in. Spoke to a supervisor at mopar who dismissed me promptly. Would not offer to help with anything since "the vehicle has 105,000 miles on it" unsure why the safety aspect of this wouldn't be important enough to want to help. Will not even entertain the idea of buying an american made vehicle again. Third time owning a Chrysler/doge vehicle with major issues. This is why our economy can't bounce back-too much dishonesty!!.

4 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

My town and country has the power folding third row seats. My kids and I were sitting in those seats on July 4th for the fireworks show. I was shifting in the seat when my knee accidentally pressed the seat fold button which started collapsing the third row seats on my 2 kids and I. If my kids had not jumped up in time, the seats would not have stopped before causing serious injury. I stayed in the seat to see if I could stop it somehow, but the buttons didn't stop the process. I finally was able to force the seat to stop with my back, but I had to use a lot more force than my kids could ever have done. The seats have enough force to seriously injure a child. This is clearly a huge safety issue, as the buttons are in a location that can be accidentally pressed easily. Also, if kids are in the back of the van and are playing around, they could easily reach and play with the buttons while sitting in the back. A simple button cover or child lockout switch would solve the problem. The van is advertised with the purpose of using the rear seats as a tail-gate alternative, but this safety issue makes that a dangerous solution.

5 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

We purchased our new 2014 Chrysler town and country Mini van from our local Chrysler dealer with two defective outboard rear seat headrests. The outboard attachment of the steel horseshoe shaped attaching rod to the seat frame is broken. Returned vehicle to dealer after we discovered this condition for inspection and repairs on may 4, 2015. We had to leave the vehicle with the dealership due to a service department backlog. The dealer inspected the seat on may 6, 2015 and contacted us to tell us that we had done something to the seat to cause the headrest rods to break. We told the dealer that we disagreed and we went to the dealership to discuss there findings. There is no visual damage to the seat or the headrest, the seat is new, look like it did when we purchased the vehicle. We also was told that we must have damaged the headrest when we raised the seat from the seat well in the floor to the upright position. Our service advisor mr. Rashon perry got his service manager and we discussed the damage to the seat and he taken some digital pictures of the damage to the seat and told us that he would submit them to Chrysler for review and get back to us in 2 to 3 days. Did no happened. Called dealership on may 14, 2015 and asked our service advisor mr. Perry for and update, never answered the page from the front desk. Asked to be transferred to the service managers (john ?) and left a message on his answering machine asking for an update on the status of repairing our seat. No return call to date. We understand that there is a federal motor vehicle safety standard that requires the headrest to prevent a passengers head from whiplashing during a 35 mph rear or front crash. Chrysler could have other vehicle in the publics hands with these defectives seats headrest. We need help in getting this very serious issue addressed. Please help us.

6 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

This minivan is equipped with a factory installed, electric 3rd row seat. It is a split (2/3 -1/3) configuration. The switches to control these seats are on the left rear panel just inside the door jamb. The options are: stow, normal or rear facing. You can control one or both seats for each option by use of the rocker switch posiition. Both seats were in the normal (upright) position and luggage was stored behind the seat. A child seat was sitting on the left side of the rear seat. When rounding a turn, a piece of luggage fell into the switch panel and the seat started to stow, it was compressing the child seat. I was shocked that it didn't stop or reverse itself as a friction clutch would. I. E like one of the 3 electric doors on this vehicle would. Instead the motors kept turning and skipping on their gears (machine gun sound). Trying to shut off the switches had no effect. This is a crushing hazzard.

7 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/22/2012

I was driving my family to school in the morning in my Chrysler town and country, my son was sitting in the back right side seat in his high back booster. When I began to stop at a stop sign his seat released from the clamps at the bottom and went backwards, making the chair go into the back trunk space of the van. . We have stow and go seating so the seats can move to be stowed. At the time of the accident his seat was properly latched, I had just cleaned the van and rechecked all the seats. I was able to relatch his seat but I will not be using that back seat in the future. It seems that when I was stopping his latch failed and was not able to hold the seat into place.

Seat also acts abnormal once you stop the van and press the buttons to put it back into correct position. ) this is the fourth time this has occurred since we bought the van in early 2009.

Failure Date: 04/12/2009

2009 Chrysler Town & Country has a potentially serious flaw with the automatic rear seat. The consumer stated he was removing some suitcases from the well behind the rear sear. During the process, he lost his balance and fell against the buttons on the side that operate the seat folding closure. The backs of both seats began to fold forward. The consumer tried to stop the movement by pushing the buttons, but they kept folding. They finally came to stop and the consumer was able to retrieve the rest of his bags. When the consumer attempted to straighten out the seats by pushing the button, nothing happened. The consumer noticed the part of the mechanism on the right seat was bent. The consumer believed a governor should be installed on the seats to stop the movement if the seat senses an obstruction.

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact noticed that there were no overloads or safety stops for the power folding rear seat. He was concerned that if a child were to sit in the seat and use the power option, they may be injured due to the lack of safety stops on the seat. The mounting brackets on the seat were dented because the motors were holding up the seat. The contact planned to speak with the dealer when he was there for a routine oil change. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 7,000.

16 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/08/2006

We purchased a 2006 Chrysler town and country Mini-van. The van is equipped with stow and go seating. On the third row seats, located on the end of each seat, left and right, is a pull tab. When my 6 year old son pulled the tab the seat ejects forward. The force created a lump on his head. The tab is easy to access and easy for a child to pull. When the tab is pulled the upper part of seat moves forward fast and with force. I believe this is a safety concern for children and even adult. Especially, if you aren't expecting the movement of the seat.

17 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/08/2006

We own a 2000 Chrysler town and country limited minivan. The middle row of seats are removable. From time to time, we remove and reinstall the seats per the directions in the manual. After each time we reinstall the seat, we ensure that the seat is secure by making sure it can't disengage. Despite this, the middle seats periodically disengages spontaneously, pops out, and tips forward or backward with our child in it. When this happens, we stop the car, pull over, and put the kid in a different seat. Then we reinstall the seat when we are at safer spot. We test again to make sure the installation is secure and continue driving. Then, a few weeks or months later, the seat pops out again. The most recent such incident is dated below.

19 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/27/2004

I own a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country lxi Mini van. The problem I have noticed is with the passenger seats (second row). They are buckets (not bench) and can swivel forward to allow access to the third row. In order to place the seat back into position after a person has entered or exited the vehicle, you must slam the seat back into the floor. If this is not done however, the seat appears to go back into place. If you are not experienced with this, the seat does not lock back into the floor. Approximately one and a half years ago, my mother entered the back seat and then pulled the second row seat back, to where she thought it was in place. My 2 year old daughter was then placed into the car seat in that second row seat. We drove away in the parking lot but at the first stop with brakes that seat slammed forward, crushing my daughter's face into the hard plastic seat in front of her. There is also a sort of hard plastic handle on that front seat that is right at cheek level. My daughter fortunately came away with a bruised cheek and black eye, but I felt very lucky that she did not fracture any of her facial bones. We have been very careful since, but just 2 weeks ago, this happened again, this time with my two year old son. Again, someone who did not realize how hard you must slam the seat down to get it to lock into place got into the back seat. Again, at the first stop, my son slammed forward in his car seat, crushing his face into the front seat. He too came away with a black eye and again we felt fortunate that there was no other injury. I simply wanted to report this hazard, hoping that Chrysler will think about the design of these seats. The seats should not be able to appear in normal position without being locked.

20 Mid/rear Seats Assembly problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/18/2002

2002 Chrysler town and country is supposed to be equipped with the latch system in "all rear seating positions". This system (including the tethers) are not present on the 3-passenger seat in this vehicle. The same is true for most of the 2003 town and country vans in the lot of my car dealer.
