1 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

This has happened to us three times in the last three weeks. Shortly after starting the car we traveled less than a mile at about 25 mph and the engine suddenly turned off causing the power steering and breaks to fail. The van restarted one we put it in park and continued to work fine after that. We were driving in a crowded neighborhood where children play at the time.

Failure Date: 11/17/2018

4. 0 l v6 engine 1) while turning right from a stop onto highway, the power steering failed. - I drove into the passing lane, luckily no one was in that lane at the time. So the car was speeding up 10/30/18 traction control light briefly on 2) car in motion, decelling from 35 mph, turning left across on coming traffic, the power steering & the power breaks went out. Hard to turn & hard to break, barely stopped in time. Had to turn off & back on again 11/17/18 traction control light briefly on 3) for the past 6 months, there have been occasions where my car would not start until like the 7 or 10th turn over of the fob. Car not in motion.

5 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

When driving in heavy rain and standing water the power steering will go out. Water somehow gets the belts wet, which have a loud screeching sound, with that the power steering will fail which has almost caused me to wreck the vehicle several times. This problem is ongoing and has happened since I came into possession of the vehicle.

6 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

We've had a sporadic, reoccurring problem where the engine shuts down while driving down the road. The van will lose acceleration, the power steering fails, (at least one time the power brakes failed as well) and the traction control light illuminates. As these happen, you realize that they were caused because the engine has just performed an uncommanded (by the driver) shutdown. Unfortunately, none of these symptoms are necessarily immediately obvious. For instance, when traveling straight (not using power steering), at low speeds (not accelerating), the first indication of failure is that the traction control light has illuminated. The far more concerning issue is when you realize that the engine (and systems) has failed while attempting to turn through an intersection. After the engine fails it will restart immediately. The issue is controlling the vehicle -after losing power steering, the ability to accelerate, traction control, and brakes - through the failure, in traffic, often on contaminated roads (rain, snow, or ice are common fall through early spring where we live) to be able to safely restart the engine. This problem began two years ago. It happened a few times in the winter over a couple week span and then went away. The next fall (8-9) months later it began doing it again. The occurrences this time were more frequent. We were told by the dealership that they were unable to duplicate our failures due to the intermittent nature of the problem. After a several weeks, the failures stopped. Now at the end of summer, it's been probably 9-10 months since the last occurrence, it has started again. Several occurrences in the last week. From what we can remember, the failures occur with the first several minutes of the trip (sometimes more than one within a few minutes) and usually at lower speeds. We can't remember an event above 40 mph.

7 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/26/2015

Experienced power steering failure (feeling was complete loss of steering) in following condition. While driving at about 40-45 mph and coming to middle lane for making a left turn approaching red light. Esc light came on. This has happened twice on this vehicle. Road condition: dry. I am worried that vehicle may loose complete control if this happens at highway driving speed. During both incident, use the key to turn off the ignition and power the vehicle back on and it started functioning as intended. There was no aggressive event or environment condition which should have triggered esc light upon loss of power steering.

8 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

I was turning a slow curve and I am not sure what caused it, but my engine turned off, my power steering and gas pedal failed. My brakes didn't seem to work as well and I had to come to a slowed stop and force my steering to turn onto an off road so I didn't cause an accident. When I came to a stop I turned the engine off and back on and the car started up right away and I have not had an issue since. I am not sure if I bumped the keys in the ignition or not. Unfortunately, I have had a few family emergencies and have had to reschedule the appt to get my car looked at and do not know the issue. I am concerned that it has to do with the recalls of cars with faulty key/ignition issues. I just bought this car that was supposedly certified back in November of 2013 with only approx. 37,000 miles on it. Should I give this back as a lemon and get a different vehicle?.

9 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/20/2013

The first incident occurred when the vehicle was in motion going about 40 miles an hour when the engine shut off with power steering and brake pressure loss. The abs and traction control light came on. The vehicle was able to be moved over to the side of the road without incident. Restarted the vehicle and it operated as normal. The second incident occurred while moving the vehicle around 5 miles an hour when the engine shut off again. Power steering and brakes failed to work. The third incident occurred traveling about 30 miles an hour with the same issues as above. The vehicle has been at the dealer twice with no solution at this time. There is a recall after the timeframe of this vehicle manufacture for the ignition module 11v139000. It would seem the recall needs to be extended as there are more issues related to the engine stopping for more than just the 2010 model.

12 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

In the rain or when there is standing water on the road, the power steering will fail. This usually happens at lower speeds, and often while lowing down or turning. The power steering will stop temporarily and you lose all control of the vehicle. This has happened to my wife as well while she was turning in traffic. The power steering will start working again usually in less than a minute. It is very dangerous, as you have no control. It only happens when there is standing water in the road during or just after moderate to heavy rain. There have been multiple reports of this problem on the Chrysler forums. Please advise is anything being done about this defect?.

14 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/20/2010

Own a 2005 chyrsler Town & Country touring van, w/93k miles. In the past 2 years, the power steering fails w/o warning when the van travels over water. The dealer thinks it's a weak tension bar on a power belt, but he can't be certain. The power steering loss lasts about 15-30 seconds and severely compromises maneuverability and control of the vehicle. It also appears to short out the alternator because the battery warning light goes on. Is there anything in your data base about this? I can find no recalls for this year or model.

15 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Power steering leak and failure. Began with whinning noise at around 40,000. Upon inspection, power steering assembly failed and required replacement. Within two weeks of service, new steering assembly began whinning and leaking again. The steering assembly had to be replaced a second time. Concerned about power steering failure at such low mileage and possible safety risk for the future. Appears to be a common problem at low mileage for this model and have requested a recall from Chrysler.

16 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/12/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler town and country touring. The contact stated that the power steering reservoir failed and the screen filter had become clogged with oil. When the screen became clogged it would deprive the steering unit or receiving any fluids needed to operate correctly. The dealer replaced the power steering unit and water pump. The contact stated that the exact same failure recurred in approximately one year and the power steering pump and water pump was replaced a second time. The manufacturer was contacted but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 87,555.

17 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/02/2009

Power steering boost has failed on three occasions. All were low speed, less than 10 mph. There were no accidents or other consequences other than extreme difficulty in steering. I have taken the car to my Chrysler dealership, and they report that they cannot replicate the events I've reported. They further state that they can find nothing wrong with the power steering system. Nevertheless, these events are exactly as I have reported to the dealers service department. I am an experienced driver and vehicle owner. My concern now is when and where will it happen again, and will there be an accident! I frequently drive on snow and ice (vehicle is all-wheel-drive), and any steering failure could lead to an accident. Needless to say, I am very unhappy with the Chrysler dealership in question, and no longer feel safe driving this car. The three loss of power steering events occurred over the last 10 or 12 days. Prior to this time there have been no issues at all with the power steering. What can I do now with a vehicle and situation that I no longer regard as safe?.
