13 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/02/2006

I drove to work @ 8:30 am and parked my car between two other cars. Within an hour my rear side vent window blew out. The little tiny glass pieces blew over 20 feet onto other cars. I did call the police thinking it very unusual. The officer thought it was very strange not to have much glass in the vehicle. The officer assured me that it had not been broken into. I called the Chrysler dealer that I had purchased the car from. They had me tape up the window with plastic and drive to the glass repair shop. I was lucky that the car dealer footed the bill. This in my opinion was no accident. The window simply blew out. Luckily, I had dropped all the children off at school that morning. (my day for carpool).

While driving approx. 40 miles an hour, the drivers side rear vent window in my 2003 Chrysler Town & Country exploded all by itself into the van leaving broken pieces of glass all over three small children buckled into car seats. None of the windows were open at the time and there was not a major temp. Change. There was no evidence of anything hitting the window from either the inside or the outside. There were no previous cracks in the window. Luckily, all of my children were ok. I reported this to my local Chrysler dealership and to the daimler Chrysler corp. 17 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/02/2005

We were on a drive and my husband wanted to look at a lake. We pulled up on the boat ramp to park as no one was there. My husband left the van and went into the store for a map. I was sitting in the front seat with the motor turned off. All of a sudden I heard an explosion and then a subsequent explosion. This was followed by the sound of glass breaking. I turned around and saw that the rear window of my van had shattered. Hundreds of tiny pieces of glass had flown into the rear seat area. My husband returned to the van and we looked at the rear window from the outside. There were two holes in the window about midway between top and bottom. The one on the passenger side was about 4" in diameter and appeared to be an electrical mechanism to the window heater which now was dangling inside the van. The other hole on the driver side was over the windshield washer mechanism area and was about 6". Looking around the area, the only person that could be seen was a fisherman 3/4 of a mile away on this remote mountain lake. Being 3-4 hours from home and late in the day with rain predicted, my husband purchased a roll of duct tape from the fishing resort general store. He completely covered what was left of the shattered glass while encompassing the entire rear window area as well. We drove home without further incident. On the way home, all I could think of was the fact that my small granddaughter had previously been in my van in a rear-facing child seat. Upon returning home, we contacted the dealer that sold us the van. We were told by the service manager that glass is not covered under warranty and suggested we call Chrysler. My husband called Chrysler and spoke with jeff ross. He listened and again told my husband it was not covered under warranty. Of course, we believe it should be covered under warranty as it exploded on it's own, but our main concern is that the issue be taken seriously as a manufacturing defect capable of injuring someone.

While driving at 60 mph the passenger side rear vent window separated from the vehicle, breaking off from the front bolts and the motor arm. The window was not vented at the time of the separation. The full window landed on another vehicle's windshield, shattered, and impacted a third vehicle. The local dealer would not intervene as the van had 44,000 miles on it, over the 36,000 mile warranty. The police were called but a report was not filed as there were no injuries. Costs for repair included $640 to my vehicle, $1800 to the second vehicle, and unknown to the third.

22 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/03/2004

While driving our back window just exploded. It's a 2002 Chrysler town and country ex touring edition. We immediately stopped the vehicle and there was no evidence of anything hitting the window and the window was bowed out. We did file a police report with the columbus police department. We called ricart Chrysler, where we purchased the vehicle, and was told the warranty only covers 12 months and was told it was probably heat build up (it was 57 degrees that day) or a stress fracture. Which I would assume to be a defect as we did nothing to cause the window to explode.

23 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/08/2003

My 2003 town and country limited minivan recently had a window blow out on the passenger sliding door. The incident happened while driving down the highway and resembled a tear about a third of the way up the window. It did not resemble an external damage sight and seemed to look as if the window ripped open for some reason. The initial 'tear' was about a foot long and expanded through out the entire window from there. I was quickly referred to my insurance carrier by the dealership. I was on my way there and was less then a mile from them when this occurred.

25 Side/rear Glass problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/22/2000

While the vehicle was parked in front of my residence at approx. 8:30 pm I heard an exploding sound come from the van. I went outside to see what had happened and saw the rear window blown out from the inside. It was obvious that the window broke from the inside out because the glass was pushed out and completely shattered, a few chips of glass were on the outside of the van approx 3 to 4 feet away from the rear of the van, indicating the force with which the window blew out. I took some pictures to try and show the window and the obvious direction the glass was broken out in but since the window was shattered the glass started breaking apart and falling all over. I feel this is and extreme saftey hazard which might have been caused by the hot temperatures we were having or a defect in the rear window. The window broke in what appears to be the weak part of the glass as it busted out at the peak of the curve. Thank you I would like to know if other owners have had similar problems.
