The air bag warning light illuminated. Few days later began hearing a clicking under the dashboard behind the glove box. Received notice for recall. Due to location nearest Dodge dealership is 2 hours away. Decided to wait. A short time later, the car began to lose power briefly intermittently. Once again, due to location decided to wait. Two days ago the car stalled completely while traveling at 45 miles per hour. No steering, no brakes, nothing. Scared me. Trying to find someone locally to look at it. Today it died in the middle of a very busy intersection. Once again, coming to the intersection the car dropped below 1,000 rpms and then dies.

My son purchased his 2008 Avenger used in 2014 from oklahoma. He is in the military and while deployed I am maintaining his vehicle at the local dealership in michigan with oil changes and service. While driving at 55mph on the freeway the tpms light came on then the cruise control turned off. Then the engine light as I was exiting the freeway the engine stopped. I started the vehicle which stalled at every. Intersection and on turns would stall putting me in the opposite lane. When looking up recalls it showed the exact problem. I took the vehicle to the dealership. They stated no recall on this VIN# and the problem is his timing chain and of course the fee is 1500. 00 dollars. It seems fiat Chrysler is trying to do everything not to fix these older models.

My vehicles stalls while driving on the highway and its an automatic. I keep my regular maintenance on it. This has almost caused 3 different accidents on multiple occasions. When I stop my car almost acts as though it wants to shut off. In order to pick speed back up I midst floor it to even get moving anywhere. This is very unsafe seeing as though I have a 2 yr old. Something must be done. I'm insuring a car that has had recalls for this very same issues and now Dodge tells me they'd have to charge me $115 for a diagnostics test.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informed the contact that there was a recall associated with NHTSA campaign number: 13v5520000 (engine); however, the dealer explained a diagnostic fee would be charged in order for the vehicle to be serviced under the recall. The contact stated that the recall did not mention a diagnostic charge. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 48,596.
While driving my 2010 Dodge Avenger, the electronic throttle body warning light will flash on and then go off, when it is on the car drops speed quickly and will not excellerate. This has happened to me numerous times over the last month. It has happened to me on major highways in heavy traffic and has almost had me get hit by other vehicles as my car drops speed with no warning. The light never stays on long enough to pull any codes from it. I have researched this issue and there is numerous complaints online about the electronic throttle body's being faulty that Dodge is putting in 2008 - 2010 Avengers. I have notified Dodge of my issue and they basically told me they were sorry for my issue and that was it. This is a major safety issue, as someone can end being hit by another vehicle when their car stalls like this with no warning. This part is faulty as people have had them replaced and not even 6 months later they have had to have them replaced again, as the only replacement part available is from Dodge, which shows the parts are faulty. Once the car completely stalls out, it loses power steering and braking capabilities which is going to cause an accident and get someone killed. Please recall this part on the cars before someone gets hurt or killed, I do not want it to be me or one of my children riding in my car that ends up getting killed from an automobile accident because Dodge was not made to recall these faulty parts on their Avengers. I plan on pursuing this issue until there is some sort of resolution for customers that have these model cars from Dodge.
I was driving and the car just cut back, it act as though it wanted to stall. It did this a few times. I had to go to the dealership and have my warning lights on the dash reset 3 times. They always had a reason why this happened. I will never get another Avenger that's for sure. I love Dodge but I have always had a caravan used and this car had 9miles on it when I brought it Dec 2013 I have not had it a whole year yet and I've been to the shop 4 times already.
While driving to work today I lost all power and noticed a red lighting bolt on the dash. I would try to accelerate but could not going more then 1600 rpm's. I pulled over and killed the engine. When I started it I was able to drive for about 1 minute and it happened again. I was able to get home and later found out the lighting bolt was the electronic control throttle body. I called the dealer and they want $550 to install it or $330 for a new part. Reading forums I seen that many people have this issue and need to replace the entire throttle body because there are little plastic gears that get stripped. I found a place on line for $180 and will replace it but I think it is disappointing that I am replacing this part when I only have 60k miles on it.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. While driving at 50 mph, the cruise control was activated but would independently turn off. In addition, the contact stated that while at a stop light and the brake pedal was depressed the rpms increased. The contact also stated that while at a stop, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart. The tire pressure warning light and engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed but the parts that needed to be repaired were unknown. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was aware of NHTSA campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 47,000.
I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2011. Since 2011 it has stalled out on me 4 times when I am at low speeds or when accelerating when a red light turns green. One of the stalls it happened as I was making a uturn and a car nearly hit me while I was trying to restart the car. I have taken the vehicle in several times to the dealer and each time they find nothing wrong with the car. This situation is exactly as described by another complaint on this website. I have noticed the car has a very slight surge at idle or at a light when the ac is running and mentioned this to the techs but they stated its normal. Doesn't seem normal to me as the car didn't do it when purchased and now it randomly stalls. They did flash the onboard computer but this has not fixed the problem. Guess it will take a serious accident before the dealer or Dodge believes there is a issue.
Was driving down the highway and noticed a delayed response when pushing down on the accelerator, moments later I was unable to accelerate and the car's electronic throttle control light appeared. The car was unable to go more then 15 mph. I had to have the car towed. I did not receive a warning before this happened however, I did notice my car stalling a little bit a day prior to this happening. I see I am not the only person with this problem, now I have to see how much money this is going to cost me. I am a college student and need my car but not this types of expense and safety risks it comes with. There are 125,000 miles on the car at this time.

When proceeding from a complete stop, my car stalls. It is in the drive mode and is trying to go but can't. And it is starting to do it more often than not. I thought it may have had something to do with my brakes, since they were squeaking, but I have since gotten them repaired and the stalling continues. Also sounds like something is gurrgeling under the hood. Really don't even want to think about how much the repairs are going to cost.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred on two separate occasions. Owned vehicle since 2009. Everytime it rains the car will stall out when decelerating from various speeds. This has almost caused several accidents as drivers behind you expect you to begin to accelerate when traffic lights turn green, but instead you must drop the car into neutral or coast it to the side of the road to get it to restart. This has continued since I bought the car. . Read more...

On 3/11/13, I reported to Dodge case # [xxx] that when driving on wet / damp roads the car will stall out for no reason. This has happend to me while stopped at a light, slowing down going through a toll or even while turning in an intersection. I have felt it to start to stall while driving at 65 and have hit the gas to stop the problem. I phoned Dodge who told me . . . Sorry there are no recalls. I then phoned my local Dodge service department who immediately told me that yes they have had this problem in the past, the suggested is a sensor on the throttle or throttle body. The cost for repair is around $750. I happened to see there was another complaint on your site regarding this. Because I feel as though this is a very serious danger hazard, I filed a complaint with the department of transportation # [xxx]who suggested I contact you. I think this is a very large concern and something that needs to be addressed immediately. I will be paying the money to get my vehicle fixed out of concern for my own and others safety. I drive the interstate everyday to work 65 - 75 mph and have to drive either in the right or left lane in case my car stalls. I was lucky that when my call stalled while trying to pull away from a red light I was not rear ended. I am hopeful you will see the sense of urgency and push Dodge to do a recall. I do not think this should be the consumers espense. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Driving at very slow speed. Vehicle stalled. Could have been very dangerous. Car was restarted. Just bought car day before. Informed dealership, and they did not return my call.
My 2008 Dodge Avenger has an electronic throttle control light flashing anytime I go over about 2000 rpm. At that point the car begins to stall and I have to put the car in park and restart. I am posting this because I have seen numerous other posts on Dodge forums that explain the same problem. There seems to be a known defect with the throttle control.
Driving on hilly road at about 60 mph car begins to studder and jerk. It smooths out on acceleration then repeats symptoms each time car travels around 60 mph. The symptoms go away after car is turned off then restart later in the drive. The symptoms now occurr on level roads also. Now in addition to the above symptoms, the car is stalling at low speeds of around 15 mph or less. It will start back up normally, but may stall again or not. It will often run erratically after this, a symptom often called 'missing', but no cylinder misfire code is set.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while attempting to merge into highway traffic at 50mph the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic twice and advised that the gas cap was not properly tightened and could cause the vehicle to stall, however the vehicle continued to stall without warning and could not be restarted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,300 and the current mileage 34,712. Pmb.
Since we first purchased this vehicle we have had problems with it stalling. At first we thought it was when it got wet but then it happened any time. It stalled out several times while driving on the high way. We have had it to the dealer several times the past few years. They have replaced the pvc valve and the map sensor stating both times this was causing it to stall out even though the light indicates it is the electronic throttle control. The dealer says there are a lot of things that can effect the etc and it is a guessing game unless the light comes on when they have it which of course it didnt. The car is dangerous to drive at this point. It continues to stall and there is no indication as to when it will happen. We could be going 10 miles an hour or 50 miles an hour. On one occasion when I had to have it towed, the tow truck driver showed me under neath that it had been towed before becasue something was bent. He didnt want me to think he did it. Therefore there were issues with this car before I purchased it. I have emailed Dodge on this matter as there are numerous complaints about this same issue and yet there are no recalls for it. I dont want anyone to be killed in this car so we are hoping the dealer will take it back as a trade. After all they sold it to us in this condition.
Shortly after I purchased my '08 Dodge Avenger I started having trouble w/the etc. It felt like the vehicle was jolting on acceleration or if I was at a steady high rate of speed (75-80 mph). The etc indicator came on. I contacted the dealer & informed them of the issue & my concern about the reliability of the vehicle. It was in & out of the shop 3 times in the 1st month of purchase for the etc. I was told it was a speed sensor yet my etc light was on after replacement. After having etc sensor cleaned & etc software flashed the problem appeared to go away. Almost 2 years later the problem is back & worse. My etc indicator came on, vehicle stalled while idling, started jolting while accelerating & while maintaining a steady speed. It began revving at a complete stop w/full pressure applied to the break (vehicle would jump forward; I feared it would run itself into another vehicle). While slowing down it would rev & accelerate (creating the possibility of hitting another vehicle) w/out pressure on the gas pedal. It died while driving & wouldn't start restart. When it did start the etc was on & it wouldn't get past 1000rmp or above 20mph & had a very rough idle. A tune-up was done, etc sensor cleaned, air-intake system cleaned, & load test done to see if the battery was going bad. This vehicle is incredible unsafe to drive, after researching it appears that I am not the first person w/this issue. Dodge needs to recall this throttle body, it's extremely dangerous. The repairs on this vehicle are extensive & the problem isn't fixed. Advised replacing throttle body is the next step. Told it wouldn't be a guaranteed fixed because the throttle body for this model appears a faulty & I would likely be dealing w/this problem for the length of ownership. Recorded vehicle during some of incidents since I was told 1st time I was told "unable to duplicate, flashed software. ".
