The shifter was stuck in park and wouldn't budge.
Transmission will get stuck into a gear and not shift. Vehicle was taken to dealership for repair. After 1000 miles, transmission again malfunctions and towed to dealership for repair. Second malfunction very similar to first, but I was not able to even drive the car after the second malfunction. Car seems to be stuck in a higher gear that will not allow me to get started from a full stop. This is a new Avenger with 3. 6l pentastar engine.

Car stuck in gear, cant reduce speed, powertrain module needs to be replace, I've had the car only for 1 1/2.
Stick shifter stuck in park. Can not engage at all. Dodge is not acknowledging the problem with the consumer. Not fair to the buyer it is not covered in warranty.
2008 Dodge Avenger with 21000 miles and stuck gear shift box.
2008 Dodge Avenger, 2. 6l v-6, automatic transmission, 38000 miles. Gear shifter stuck in park. There was absolutely no warning this failure was taking place. Vehicle was driven the day before, parked overnight and the next morning the shifter was stuck in park. After doing research on this problem, it appears this has been an ongoing issue for this make and model of Chrysler/Plymouth product effecting upwards of 500 - 600 vehicles across the nation with the repair costs ranging from $230. 00 - $400. 00 +, not including the towing charges and other out of pocket expenses. This repair is not covered under the extended warranty. This is obviously a design flaw and the vehicle should be recalled and repaired at no cost to the consumer.
Went to go leave work at 9:30 at night and the car will not go into drive. The gear shifter seems to be stuck in park. Had to get it towed to the Dodge dealer nearby. I have seen numerous complaints on this issue while researching it online.
I purchased a 2008 Dodge Avenger about a year ago, a few days after I got the car the gear shift got stuck and I couldn't get the car out of park. I called the dealership and the sales guy who sold me my car told me that I was probably doing something wrong, about an 15mins later the car went in to drive, and I didn't think anything about it. Today I tried to up my car in drive and it wouldn't going in to drive at all. I called the dealership and they told me that I had to go through Dodge because I was out of the 30days. I then called the Dodge dealership and he told me I would have to pay about $1300 to get my car fixed.
I own a 2008 Dodge Avenger and it has the issue of getting stuck in the park gear. It's never happened until now and it constantly keeps happening now. I've read on forums where many more Dodge Avenger owners are having the some problem. If I can't move my car from park then I can't drive it anywhere. I've called Dodge in which they mention that there are no recalls, but I believe it a defect.
I took my son to the er room and my car was running fine. I come out and start my car everything was good. I tried to take it out of park and my shift gear was stuck. I have researched and a lot of people are having the same problems. My car is only two years old. 2008 Dodge Avenger.
On my 2008 Dodge Avenger with less than 26,000 miles on it the shifter is stuck in the park position. Now me and my husband have just found out that this happens on a lot of Dodge vehicles and we are not under warranty. We think that this may be some sort of defect because it happens to others Dodge. We have not had the problem corrected because we have no money to do so.
I have had nothing but problems with my car. When I first purchased it 2 months later my shifter got stuck I was stranded at work. After that I have had various problems from the alternator, battery, and compressor going out various times and it is not even over 100,000 miles. I looked up there were recalls on the car back in 07 and 08. The dealership says that they fixed it but I feel like it was not fixed and I had the shifter problem right when I purchased that is the only thing they said they can fix.
Transmission seals failed while driving. Vehicle stopped shifting correctly, just stuck in second gear. Consumer states that the brakes failed and rotors warped at 18000 miles.
