Driving and car cuts off without warning. Could be going 35 mph could be going 65 mph. Have to shift to n to cut car back on. Sometimes it won't cut back on. I pressed gas after light turned green in a busy intersection and car cut off in middle of intersection. This has happened in more than one occasion and almost caused many accidents. Throws code for crankshaft position sensor. It has been replaced and still not helping. Also replaced throttle body position sensor. This is happening with a lot of these vehicles. All online forums talk of the same problem. Don't know if it's the computer itself because the check engine light rarely comes in when this happens. Then it throws random codes.

The transmission began slipping on Saturday, July 23, 2022 with 120,000 miles on the odometer. The car was driving normally then suddenly went into neutral causing it to slow down and back up traffic until I manually changed to a lower gear. The car was also doing this change to neutral on its own while I was trying to park the car and then when I went back to my car to pull out of the parking space, it took several attempts to engage the gears to move. I limped home with the car and got it parked in my driveway. The transmission fluid reading was normal. The car started doing this shift change to neutral without warning.

I was reversing out of a parking spot and when I tried to go forward, the car kept wanting to go in reverse. The shifter then became stuck in park and would not move to another gear. I was in the middle of the road now blocking traffic. The dashboard still showed I was in reverse even though the shift lever was stuck in park. I was forced to keep reversing until I found a safe spot to park. Later I looked up this problem on youtube and found many videos posted with my same problem with the stuck gear shift. I would definitely say this is a manufacturing defect that needs to be recalled on all versions of the Dodge Avenger car.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. Also, while operating the vehicle a knocking noise was present coming from the engine when the air conditioning unit was turned on. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The gear shift locked in park.
Just bought the car, within a month the brakes were grinding. Took it to the dealership and there was a power train leak which they replaced. A few days later, I was at an intersection turning and my wheel completely locked, causing me to hit the car in front of me and the air bags deployed. An officer happened to be on the same road and saw that my car was also smoking as well which may have been due to the previous power train leak. I looked at other recalls and sure enough, there are some on the 2011-2013 regarding steering and brake systems as well. They definitely need to check the 2014 Dodge Avenger as well for similar issues. Now the front passenger area and my axel is ruined and needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary at parking lot, the contact was unable to shift out of park. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she removed the gear assembly and manually shifted the vehicle into drive. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.
Hi my name is [xxx] and I’m 28 years old and a full time single mom of 2 girls 24/7 and in February I bought a 2008 Dodge Avenger 2. 7 and the day I drove it home the check engine light came on and well long story short there it took them a month to “fix” the issue and 3 days later after getting my car back after not having it for a month the check engine light came on again…needless to say here it is almost September 7 months later and there has many endless problems and the car dealership will not return my phone calls or texts or emails about my car and wanting to trade it in for another one on there lot !!! they are crooked people and shouldn’t be a business I have so much proof information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger with approximately 76200 miles on it. While accelerating from a stop light my transmission made a clunking sound and my vehicle would only go about 30 miles per hour but the rpms but jump up to about 7000 and stay there. I was on a four lane roadway going through a city when this happened. Ended up my transmission needed to be replaced with 76,000 miles on my vehicle. Transmission issues seem to be a common problem with the Dodge Avengers. And of course when I called Dodge customer care they stated they can do nothing for me on any kind of reimbursement. Transmissions should last longer than 76000 miles! very disappointed in Dodge customer service team.

Vehicle in limp mode and won't shift gears property. Started after a purchase of the vehicle had no idea that this was going to be a issue until I had it for about a week and engine light came on and then started the limp mode and then driving it is very dangerous. Because it won't change gear and going up a hill is impossible when it won't change gears. Or speed up. . It slows down instead.
Driving down the road and the power cuts out. Vehicle won't accelerate. Several engine lights come on. Tpm error comes on the screen. I have to pull off the road and turn off the car to get power back to drive.
As I was driving on the highway the car automatically got into limp mode. Into a computer protection to protect the transmission. The computer is also freshly brand new.
Passenger headrest airbag deployed while driving engine stalls while driving lost steering brake locks loss of power vehicle would not start.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle jerked and lost power. The engine and traction lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the crankshafts three times. The contact stated that the battery cable box burned and was also replaced by the independent mechanic. I was reversing out of a parking space at the grocery store, once reversed and put car in drive the car continuied to go reverse so I put in park and then engine shut off and car was still in reverse on dash board , I was stuckm in the middle of parking lot car would not turn oin or go in neutral.
I was driving my Dodger Avenger and the axial broke underneath. It was an original part and I haven't been able to get another original part to replace it from mopar without it being able to fit.
The vehicle stalls and jerks violently during acceleration at take off after a complete stop. It struggles accelerating through intersections also at making left n right turns. At random times the vehicle stops in the middle of an intersection after take off and causes cars behind you and those who choose to proceed to run the red light going the intersection to hit you. The car is unsafe to drive making it a safety issue. Come to find out online that alot of Dodge Avengers are having the same issue. Car also does this while making left and right turns. It jerks n loses acceleration randomly no matter high roms or low rpms. On the highway or street you can't gain acceleration to pass or to get over without risking an accident due to not moving with the speed of traffic. Also am unknown oil leak appears had the car valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket replace and still looses oil. Oil is shooting all over the engine and engine making unknown sound that doesn't trigger a check engine light. But there is a ticking sound coming from engine. Took it to a Dodge dealership they found nothing wrong with the engine or transmission. I believe Dodge acknowledge these problems but refuse to fix what majority of their customers complaints about this same issue.
Car has problems picking up speed when pushing pedal it slowly picks up speed, when the car is in motion and I push on brakes or I am backing out of parking space car shuts off. Also sometimes while car is running I notice it won't go over a certain speed it jus won't allow me to do over 50 mph and car starts to over heat but normally I pull over turn the car off and start it back up and it drives normal again , until the car is turned off again it mysteriously just happens again whenever it decides.
I was driving 35 mph on a street when the engine light popped on and the car stopped accelerating the wheel became very stiff and the brakes weren't working. I managed to turn the wheel enough to make a turn on a non busy street and managed to put it in park once it stopped rolling. I turned the car off for 10 minutes before starting it up to head to the mechanic up the road to the mechanic. Diagnostic says catalytic converter.
Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that when attempted to switch from reverse to drive, the vehicle aoutomatically switched to neutral. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 214,000. Bp.
Going home from work, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from my job, and traveling at approximately 40-42 mph my engine just stopped. . . . No sounds, no warning lights, nothing. Just tried to up my speed to go up a very small incline, and nothing. . . Headlights still worked, no power steering, no brakes. . . . . . . Managed to pull over. . . . . . . . . Shaking like a leaf on a tree, because I am 65 years old, alone, no family to call, no one. . . . . And this was a little after 9pm at night on Nov 2nd. Called my mobile mechanic the next day and he gave me this info to file a complaint. He said this is very serious. I was on buford hwy <four lane road> speed limit 45 mph going straight and approaching a red light on a very small incline.

The head gasket failed and was replaced despite protestations from the dealership. I learned the head gasket had a design flaw causing it to fail prematurely. Catalytic converter recalled, dealership advised it was unknown when it would repaired. Recall advised delay could damage engine. Finally repaired after complaint to dealership gm. Vehicle is making noises and losing power suddenly, then sudden increase of rpm while driving. Sudden loss of power could cause crash in traffic, same with sudden rpm increase. Fan wiring harness recalled, dealership advised of failure to fan when taken in for headgasket, nothing done. Multiple complaints made with Dodge hq.
When heat is on, the passenger side blows cold (I live in WI so, when I say cold, I mean cold) air from every blowing port on the passenger side. . . Occurs at all times, whether stationary or in motion. Have tried a few things reccomended on multiple other pages by people who are experiencing the same exact issue. No help. The driver side vents do blow warm air but, not close to as hot as it should be. This has been occurring since right around 118,000 miles. I start my car 20 minutes before I leave my house at 5am to bring my young children to daycare and be to work by 6. When getting in after being started for 20 min. . . Barely any difference in temp which, is frustrating when you drive with your babies 35 minutes in the cold cold cold along with several deer and a windshield that won't defrost completely. Have purchased the extended warranty from dealer and, somehow (what a shock) there is no help for me as 'the issues being described sound like it was brought on by you, the vehicle owner or, enviorment factors'. . . It hurts knowing you are a loyal and honest human who works hard every day to barely make ends meet and then. . . To have your character slandered by the (several thousand dollars extra) lifetime warranty that the salesman so confidently swore by on the day of purchase. Owner misuse? there are hundreds and hundreds of people having the exact same issues who own the exact same car. . . Sorry but, safe to say that isn't coincidental. I have children and groceries and gas to get to work and school and life. . . It may sound ridiculous to some but, the $900-$1600 they are saying it would cost. . . Doesn't come easily for just everyone. I'm just hoping that some people will choose to do the right thing and, stand behind the very words that lead them to where they are currently in life. Faith in these humans will hopefully bring appropriate solutions.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Avenger. While driving 30 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle began to hesitate. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 08v528000 (power train). The contact was an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 79,500.
I was driving along the freeway and the car just automatically went into limp mode. I change the oil I flush everything then when I went on to the kelly book blue book to try to sell it as saying that it had a bunch of recalls welcome to find out Chrysler saying it doesn't so I don't know what's going on with my car and neither do mechanics.
My Dodge Avenger is at 58000 miles the heater core went out and my car overheated I've only had it for a year no reported accidents. .
Takata recall. - I am approximately 2 years old with the light from the driver's airbag turned on all the time. I had it reviewed and I was informed that it is a defect in the bag and that it will not be opened in the event of an incident. Two years have passed and no revision is called for replacement. With the shift lever I was sent by Chrysler a notice to carry out a revision, I did it and today after 2 years being in a street stopped and trying to make the change to drive I could never move it I just got stuck and could not drive more. How many more times will I have to call to do something about it? because I had to pay my composure and Chrysler refused to reimburse me for that money arguing that my car is no longer guaranteed !!!!!.
Upon acceleration to enter highway vehicle continued to accelerate as tho the throttle was to the floor. Almost rear ended car in front of me. Had to apply brakes and turn on caution lights and pull over. Engine seemed as tho it was going to blow up. Very scary. Upon further inspection it seems as tho Dodge/Chrysler rushed production of the intake components to get cars to show room in all 08 with these intakes. Chrysler later fixed the problem in all future vehicles. Problem lies in cheap components in the runner flap assembly on the intake manifold. Problem throws code p2008 and code p2017. Flap sticks open and increases horsepower without intent of driver. Chrysler knows about this problem because they fuxed it in future cars. I am sure all of these cars have this faulty component and therefore; depending on how and where it fails it can be extremely dangerous.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Avenger. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle downshifted to 10 mph and lost power. Additionally, the vehicle jerked, skid, the steering wheel seized, and the traction control and throttle warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brakes, sway bar, and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to luther brookdale Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram (8188 brooklyn blvd, brooklyn park, mn 55445, (612) 326-3931), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and a voice message was left, but they failed to respond. The contact stated that she was terrified to drive the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger, given to me as a gift may 2013. The car was only about 4 years old(10/13/2017) and I started hearing a strange clicking sound, coming from under the glove compartment. Sometimes the heat/ ac wouldn't kick on for a few minutes. It ended up being the mode door actuator,it cost me over $ 400 ,I also needed front pads and rotors. The vehicle only had 18,000 miles on it. I also had to have the hood of the car replaced (sept. 5,2017) because the paint started peeling, this at least was covered by Dodge , because they said mine was not the only vehicle to have this same issue, not because of the warranty. Now I just had all 4 tires, and brakes done , between 7/2018 and 11/2018. The car only had about 22,000 miles. Here we are in December of 2018, I just had to replace the throttle control ,$360. 00, and now I have an appointment on Friday, December, 28 ,2018, to get the axle seal, right side, and the transaxle oil cooler pipes, inlet and return replaced , cost $164. 20, and $364. 29 respectively. The car only has 24,241 miles on it, I have all the oil change and inspection records, all is up to date and were always done routinely. I take very good care of this vehicle and am frustrated with these issues. I have also read up on other complaints from Avenger owners. Dodge needs to respond to these problems. I am very very disappointed with this gift and the fact that I all seem to be doing is spending a lot of money dealing with one thing after the next.
This car is totally unsafe worse vechile ever. While driving my car has lost all power making me almost loose control of the car while my kids were in it as well and driving on. The highway. When I bought the vehicle the check engine light was on. I asked the dealer and he said he was just sitting for awhile when I drove away it was off then 2 weeks later came back on. When I took it to eurozone they told me it was the heads need replaced that's 2900. 00. I looked to see if this part was recalled and if it had been replaced on my vehicle I am unable to see where if at all this has been addressed by the Dodge makers??? I love my vehicle I just want it to run like its suppose to also my tire light is on and have replaced all tires and still will not go off even after being reset. Also my car has an antifreeze smell like the car is hot but never shows that in the temp gauge it's getting hot at all. Please someone give me some info on what I can do to fix these problems???? now the new light is my brake light illuminates when I am driving then shuts itself off.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. While the vehicle was stationary, it became stuck in the park position.
