I've owned the car since new, recently we had a problem with a dead battery. After replacing the battery, the car would not go more than 20 miles per hour and we had engine fault codes. Once we cleared out the codes, the car ran fine. However, we now had a front headlight that was out. Replacing the bulb didn't work. The only way to get the front headlights both on was to turn on the high beams. After doing some research from a Dodge dealership and on the internet, I have found the issue is widespread and due to poor design of the fuse box on these vehicles, also known as the tipm. I believe the drain on the battery was caused by the poor design of the tipm and with that one incident, started the failure process. This vehicle has 150,000 miles on it and has been well maintained. I have replaced the tipm with a used one from a auto supply yard, I still get intermittent starting of the vehicle and while both headlights are working, the high beams are now not working.

I have had a problem with anti-lock brakes. I could not control my vehicle; my steering wheel was shaking, front wheel felt like it was buckling and I could not control my vehicle; almost got into an accident. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer and he told me thats the way the brakes are; terrible he said. This was done when it snowed. I do not like anti-lock brakes because of that reason; I drove a chevy malibu and when I applied the brake pedal, it didn't do what my car did. Any suggestions would be helpful. I just won't be able to drive in the snow, that sucks!!!!! when I'm driving on the highway I hear a moaning underneath the vehicle, the dealer didn't hear anything; probable didn't take it out for a ride.
Car shaking while driving engine light on and dash lights keep flashing.

For the last 3 years I have had trouble with the car loosing acceleration after driving it for a period of time. At first it would go several hours but now I can't go for a 30 minute drive and over 70mph before it looses acceleration on the highway. I will be driving and then the rpm's race all the way to the maximum, the temp. Gauge comes on and it looses power. I can put the pedal to the floor and it won't go anywhere. I have to sit and wait for it to 'cool' off which is crazy since it's not over heated. This can take anywhere from a half hour to an hour each time. When I try to start out again after it's set, I can go another mile before it happens again and I start all over. I have had it to several mechanics and they can't find anything wrong. They don't have the time to take it out on a drive like that to have it happen to them. It's a hazzard and I've been almost rear ended a few times by semi's and other cars. This car is very unsafe but it's all I have. I now have a piece of something hanging from the undercarriage and the front end is very loose. This is a death trap yet when I call the company, nothing is done. So glad they stand by their product. At the bottom of this complaint it asks when it happened, it happens every time I get on the highway so there's no specific date, all the time.
Driving over 2 hours on highway (highway interstate 81) (route 80 ) (new jersey turnpike)engine starts whining rpms rise over 4 & stay, speed drops to 25-30mph can't get up incline transmission overheat light comes on, had to pull over my son almost got killed because car had no power had to let car sit for an hour, this has happened 5 times car has been towed to 2 dealerships 1st dealership(zimmerman Dodge sunbury, PA) couldn't find a problem 2nd dealership(salerno-duane summit,NJ) replaced the computer, car still has the same problem car is now being towed to 3rd dealership(nichols Dodge burlington,nc) 69,000 miles on this car this car is very unsafe to drive this has happened at least 5 times July 2014 , October 2014 , April 2015 July 2015 , October 2015,.
Sub frame was so rusted it affected the steering, motor mount collapsed into the sub frame, lower control arm was almost separated from the frame. I was traveling at about 65 mph on the n. Y. Thruway when I started having problems with the steering . When I arrived home I investigated and found the car was so unsafe I couldn't drive it again until sub frame was replaced. I saved the frame that was removed from the vehicle if needed.
The front cross member is rusted through so bad you can put your hand in side we bought the car last year. Now as we take it to the mechanics to get allignment he gave us the bad news about this. What I don't understand is why this most important part is rusted so bad while the parts around it isn't. I've got to come up with 1250 dollars for parts and labor. Why no recall on this there is no warning of this part fails and while we're driving and it breaks well. Crash and die . So Dodge this is what you do to your customers. I'm so what I can to get the word out.
Driving to massachusetts from nh. . . 3 hour ride. . . Just outside of springfield, MA on a very busy highway, the car suddenly deaccelerated, lost power, and dash warning lights came on. The car went from approx 75/80 mph down to 30mph and lower. I was in the middle of the third lane, and had to try to get over to the break down lane with a car full of kids. This is not safe, and several vehicles were swerving around me to avoid hitting me in the rear end. When trying to accelerate, I would put my foot to the floor on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. It was like it suddenly went into neutral. Very, very dangerous. Also, the shifting lever often shifts my car into manual operation instead of automatic without me even realizing it.
Noted mounts rust and I almost lost the engine thanks to a due inspection I was save a bad accident. The 2007 Dodge is covered but not the 2008.

There are currently 0 recalls on the 2008 Dodge Caliber 2. 0. However, a simple youtube search will bring up common issues with the lower ball joints, which cause extreme tire wear and even severe pulling to the left and right with very little control. The anti-lock breaking system as well as the throttle body are huge issues as well. However, it wasn't a youtube search that brought this to my attention but instead driving one and looking into it. To my surprise there are zero recalls on this vehicle.
While traveling at 45 mph on 6 lane highway engine decelerated to between 5 to 10 miles per hour. Engine begun to idle very rough. I was approaching a side street and was able to turn off the main hwy. To access the problem. The electronic throttle light had come on indicating a problem with the throttle system.

The etc (electronic throttle control) light comes on more and more, causing the engine to lose power at low and high rpms. I had it checked and I get codes of u1407,(implausible engine torque request signal received) u1424,(implausible engine torque signal received) u1425. (implausible pedal position signal received). Rough idle occurs at start up. Etc light comes on at low and high rpms even after the car has been running for some time.

Electric fault started a fire under the hood resulting in all components to completely burn. A burning smell started while I was driving, I checked the temperature gauge and the needle was under the cold tick. I continued driving to the nearest parking which took about 1 minute and smoke was already coming out visible from the hood. I don't live in the us, so statae, zip code and phone numbers I entered are dummy. I live in the uae, abu dhabi phone: 0091502124224.
As I was attempting to merge onto the cross county pwy east a lighting bolt appeared on my cluster panel. The car began to misfire and I could not speed up cars swerved to avoid crashing into me. Pretty scary!.
My car started to suddenly slow down on the highway. I have had 4 incidents where when the car is on accelerated speed suddenly slow down. Am still paying loan on the car and I have maintained service on it. I feel I maybe in danger as the car is now a safety hazard. I have researched online and saw that other people have had the same problems. I have contacted Dodge corporate twice and was given case number 26243890 on phone and case number 26233972 on email. They say they can't do anything as the car is not on recall. I do not want life lost for it to be recalled. If there is already other people with the same problems then Dodge should do something before anything bad happened. I have called local Dodge dealer and they told me to pay to diagnose my car. Please help so Dodge to correct this problem before car causes a crash. Thank you.

As I was driving the vehicle it started to decelerated and would not regain power and then the ( etc ) light came on. With the pedal to the floor, I had to go up a hill to get it back to my car and my car just kept getting slower and slower to the point where I was afraid I was going to start drifting backwards down the hill even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. If that hill was any bigger then I would have not made it over it. Went to the dealership in the morning and they said it was the throttle body, after replacing the throttle body had no more problems.
I had took my car to get service at jiffy lube with a air filter and oil change. When driving to school I slowly started to notice a strange smell and decided to return to jiffy lube. Well on my way the problem increased and smoke and flames started appearing, that's when I quickly got out the car and called 911. I had only made it a block away from reaching jiffy lube when incident occurred .
While driving my car my transaxle overheating light will illiminate. My car will slow down and not keep the speed up. I have to pull over until the light goes out then I can continue my driving but it will do it all again 10 miles down the road. This happens about an hour after driving it on the highway at 70 mph I was just on a trip 2 hours from home. In a 30 minute time frame I had to pull over 6 times because of this. I have not taken it to the dealership and it has not been fixed. I have noticed many people are having the same problem why has this not been recalled yet?.
2007 Dodge Caliber. Consumer writes in regards to crossmember recall and electrical wire damages. The consumer stated after the vehicle was taken to the dealer, 19 days later it was discovered the engine cover was missing. Which resulted in rodents accessing the electrical wires and chewing them.
I was driving on a 45 mile per hour road and the engine completely died. I had to get over 2 lanes in order to exit into a bank driveway. Turn signal and it did not work and the "check engine" light never came on. I was able to pull into the driveway, out of traffic before the car completely stopped. After I settled down and called someone for help, he told me to turn off the air and try to restart the car. I did and then pulled it into a parking space, put it in park and revved the engine. I did not turn on the air-conditioning and drove right to a dealership and they test drove it. The incident did not repeat and the diagnostic test showed no failure.
While driving, I heard a chime, and the engine oil symbol came on, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle stopped. (bearing in mind the vehicle was serviced just two weeks prior ) . I have taken it to local Dodge service and they did not find the problem. This happened since five times. At the local service when it happened on the third time the infact kept it until the problem was duplicated. However, they argued since they were no longer certified Dodge dealer they were not able to fix the vehicle. Under there own management they took it to a certified Dodge dealer. The dealer had it said he did computer updates 5 days later the problem occurred again.

Driver was going 70-75 and running a/c when oil overheat indicator came on and car automatically decreased speed to 30 mph. After sitting on side of freeway for appro. Hour to let cool down made it to destination. Took car to mechanic and no defect was found. After it happened twice more, was informed by dealer that this model of car sometimes has an issue that the oil overheats and trips sensor that forces car to slow and then stop. Can not be driven long at higher speed. According to mechanic there is no fix. Also had issue with a/c compressor.
