Six problems related to underhood wiring have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
More than a dozen times this van will not start. Dealership cannot locate problem, and usually it occurs from cold start, but has also occurred over 5 times while driving and this is not safe. Also lost transmission sensor and that killed car while driving but has been replaced. Chrysler is not helping and I am nervous driving my kids in this van. Had it 2 years and have been stranded more than a dozen times. Noticed others with similar unsafe situations and hope Chrysler will address them soon.
The wiring harnass is resting on top of the ignition coil causing the wires going to the fuel injectors to melt.
The vehicle had been parked for over 8 hours , when fire ignited under hood (determined upon , investigation) at wire harness, car became totally involed in fire , complete loss of vehicle.

Consumer was traveling 60mph on highway. A motorist was hunking horn to get consumer's attention. When looking though the rearview mirrior he saw black smoke coming from underneath vehicle. Consumer had to pull over on the shoulders of the road, and he/ his family jumped out of vehicle. When opening the hood flames came bursting out. Vehicle burned to a crisp, and was totaled.
Wire harness in engine compartment had an electrical short, resulting in a fire on driver side of compartment. Fire was put out by fire department. Dealer has not been ocntacted at this time.
