200 Dodge Caravan
I've had it for 9 years and the strut tower on the driver's side is rusted to the point of breaking. I found this out at my inspection, and needless to say I didn't pass inspection. A strut tower breaking would cause serious safety problem during vehicle operation, as it would be undrivable.

Both strut towers on my 1998 Caravan have rusted out to the point of failure. Speaking to many Caravan owners and going to many sites this problem seems to be very common on these vehicles. Why does Chrysler not have to be responsible to all these vehicle owners or the ones that might be involved in a collision due to this built in defect?.

Corroded strut tower on driver's side 1999 Dodge Caravan. Mechanic says this is a very common problem for 1998-1999 model years. Bulletin 23-044-02 describes the problem as "cosmetic. " mechanic says repair (using Chrysler repair kit) should run $350-450 usd. If Chrysler is and has been aware of this "safety related" issue for so long, why are they not responsible for the repair. I believe this should be a recall item for the manufacturer.
I have a 1999 Dodge Caravan in which the strut housing is rusting out. I inquired about it some time ago but Dodge did not have a fix. This problem is a common occurrence with this vehicle . It is now at the point where it will punch through and cause the car to crash on the right side of the car.
The contact owns a 1998 Dodge grand Caravan. The contact stated that the strut that secured the wire to the wheels and other structures had rusted under the hood. The contact had not called the dealership or the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were 200,000.
I was driving slowly through the local meijer's parking lot when I hit a pothole. This would not normally be a cataclysmic event but this time the strut tower collapsed allowing the wheel to hit the inner fender. I was traveling at less than 10 mph so there were no injuries but if this were to have happened at highway speeds death would be guaranteed. There is no reason for any vehicle less than 10 years old to have the degree of structural rust that this van has. I have since seen many more vans with the same structural issues as mine.
Rusting strut towers causing structural damage.
My 2000 Dodge Caravan has a safety issue because part of the unibody (bilateral strut towers) are rusting from the inside outward. The driver side is in such poor condition that it will not pass inspection due to a safety issue. The metal is so corroded you can poke a pen through the metal on the strut tower located on the driver side. According to dealership, mechanics, used part distributors: "this is a known problem with Caravans of this time frame ('96-2000). The daimler Chrysler corporation has even come out with a "patch kit" because of this issue although experienced mechanics recommend removal of struts and welding new ones in place. This is a costly fix due to being labor intensive. Regardless. . . After several contacts with daimler Chrysler consumer line, they are not willing to reimburse me for fixing this defect or for patching it. They do not feel it is a recall item and apparently are not concerned with the integrity of the frame as a safety issue. I will fix my vehicle at my own expense and will never buy a product from their line again since they are not willing to stand behind the safety/quality of their product. There has not been an incident or accident yet and I will not be driving this vehicle until it is repaired properly.
