I purchased a new van on July 5, 2013. On July 8, 2013, I drove 4 miles, and stopped at a red light. I accelerated to approx. 40 mph, when suddenly the van shifted to the right momentarily, upon which I regained control immediately. Suddenly, the van jolted right again, jumped the curb, climbed an embankment, and would not stop accelerating. I kept pushing the emc controls forward. . . . But it would not stop the vehicle. It is not that the vehicle kept accelerating, but rather, the vehicle would not stop accelerating. As a result, the vehicle only stopped when I crashed through a large evergreen tree (front right passenger area). The van continued to accelerate until I ran head first into a hardware store, which ultimately stopped the vehicle. There was an analysis performed, and I expressed great concern over the lack of information disclosed in the report. The accident occurred on July 8, 2013. Today is December 31, 2013, and I cannot believe that it is taking this long to replace a new van. There was information discovered from the initial mechanic who received the van after the accident, inclusive of photographs, who was told by adjusters to withhold and not disclose the noted information. This concerns me greatly. I do not want another person to endure what I endured, or worse, an innocent person hurt by equipment, or installation of equipment, that may cause a driver not to have control over his/her vehicle. In the report, the specialist used language indicating that the driver "lost control over the vehicle. " that is a completely erroneous statement. A thorough investigation needs to be engaged to determine why an experienced driver, who has an excess of 13 years driving experience with emc/aevit controls was placed in a perilous situation, where the braking system would not stop the vehicle, and the van continued to accelerate, until impact.

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Caravan. The contact attempted to replace a flat tire however, she was unable to remove the spare tire due to a defective cable. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was advised by the mechanic that the cable would need to be severed in order to release the spare tire. The vehicle was not repaired nor was the wire severed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileage was 70,000.

Incident
we took our 2008 Dodge Caravan it in a month ago one of the problems we were having was the driver side rear sliding door wasn't closing properly so we had them adjust it. We took it in a month later to fix other problems and the door they adjusted on the drivers side just fell off in my driveway and I am again without an automobile. The van door works in two ways. One, you can push a button and close the door, or two, you can click the inside handle and slide the door over until the motor grabs it and closes it. The way the door is mounted in the rear track is very inadequate. There are two small horizontal load runners and one vertical load runner. The track is made from steel but when adjusted improperly can be stretched out of shape. When the front door lock is engaged and the rear lock is engaged the rear track can get pull out of shape and the wheels on the slide can fall out. I am an engineer who works constantly with the equipment that builds these vehicles in the auto plants. I design machines that could cycle a million times. This is an inadequate design.

Strut towers rusting on 2000 Dodge Caravan. Vehicle began wobbling severely while driving on the freeway. Took it to a repair shop to find out that both strut towers are severely rusted. After researching the internet I found the technical service bulletin, which states this is a cosmetic repair! this is unbelievable! the strut tower is completely rusted and hardly anything is holding it in place. Thousands of vehicles have been affected, but there has been no recall? Dodge should be repairing this for free.
1998 Dodge Caravan strut tower is rusting through on passenger side. We had taken the vehicle in for front brake servicing and the mechanic informed us of the strut issue. He said this could cause steering and brake failure. If the problem is not corrected and the tower collapses while driving we will loose control of the steering and possible brakes.

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan that has a strut tower rusting through. It is my understanding that this is a common problem. Shouldn't Chrysler be addressing this? I had a 1996 that did the same thing.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. The contact noticed that the driver's side strut tower was corroded. The vehicle is currently operating properly, but the failure has not been diagnosed. The contact was concerned of the safety risk involved. The current and failure mileages were 234,000. Updated 01/07/09 updated 01/07/09.
The strut tower on the driver's side of my 1999 Dodge Caravan has completely rusted out, causing the strut to burst through into the engine compartment below the windshield. A auto body repair man said this is a very serious structural and safety issue. In researching a fix for this problem, I discovered that hundreds of Dodge Caravan, town and country, and Plymouth voyager models were susceptible to this dangerous engineering failure.
I noticed serious rusting on the top of the drivers side and passengers strut towers. I read on a car forum Chrysler knows of the problem with shock tower rust rot and has a TSB for it. However, Chrysler will not fix this defects for free. Dodge/ Chrysler sells repair kits (caps with screws and glue) for the rusted shock tower caps. The repair kit doesn't seem strong enough for solving this structural problem. The forum says welding the caps is more structurally sound. I believe that this is a big safety issue due to a major structural engineering defect.
Just purchased 2000 Dodge Caravan se and after purchasing I noticed rust-rotted holes in drivers side shock tower top. I can't safety it until repaired. I read on a car forum Chrysler knows of the problem with shock tower rust rot and supposedly have a TSB for it. But I know how hard it is to convince Chrysler to fix their manufacturing defects for free. The forum also mentioned Chrysler sells repair kits for the rusted shock tower caps. But even their fix kit doesn't seem strong enough for a structural problem. They sell caps with screws and glue. But the forum says welding the caps is more structurally sound. Tomorrow, June 9, 08, I will call Chrysler to see if it's a free repair, which it should be because it's a safety issue. I would like to know who I can contact here in canada and find out about any other TSB's for this van. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Caravan. While driving over a bump at 15 mph or turning the steering wheel, the contact heard a popping sound coming from the front driver's side. An auto shop repaired the idler arm during a test drive, but the noise still remained. A mechanic lifted the hood of the vehicle and discovered that the struts were rusted. The contact was advised not to drive the vehicle. She took the vehicle to another shop and received the same diagnosis. They stated that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect. The contact called Chrysler and was informed that nothing could be done because the state she lives in uses salt on their highways. The vehicle is currently parked and has not been repaired. The dealer information and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 72,600. Updated 04/16/08 updated 04/16/08.

Front suspension: strut rusted. There is noise in the front suspension, but the consumer is not sure if this was related to the corroded struts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said that the struts should be replaced within a couple of months. The dealer was going to charge the consumer to fix the vehicle. The consumer talked to other people with similar problems. The rust was on top of the strut tower which was weakening the structure so that the strut spring began to protrude through the support.

Unknown water was coming through the dashboard/instrument panel on the passenger's side, and consumer was unable to locate the problem. Dealer informed the consumer that this vehicle was outside the warranty, and there was no manufacturer's recall on that issue.
The passener side tail light just fell off while I was driving and the car is no longer under warrantee. I found out later that they are glued on! there is no reason for it. No accident/ no unusual driving conditions. After the light cover fell off the light fixture was hang out by the connecting wire. The plastic bolts that held the light fixture gave way as well.

Subj: copy of letter sent ~ rear end low-impact collision/seats breaking subj: daimler Chrysler customer assistance (kmm132792v69051l0km) date: 6/25/03 9:09:50 pm pacific daylight time from: usfromcalifornia customerassist@daimlerchrysler. Com dear daimler/Chrysler, it seems unbelievable that a company that is suppose to be as reputable as yours, and can spend billions, and billions of dollars on advertisements to sell your cars, but will do nothing to help someone when you know that your seats have been a problem since the 1960's (just check the nts&h website, and you will see all the problems that are now already well-known, that you have known about for years, with your front seats breaking in low-impact rear end collisions! I am now permantelty disabled due to your seats causing a severe concussion & traumatic brain injury from this problem! and the real thing that we just cannot understand is that your so called trusted and safe automobiles have caused me and my family to go through a living hell for the past 11 months, and your reputable company is refusing to take your adult responsiblities and acknowledge your problems and compensate us and our families for our tragedies!!!! most of all, your lack of fixing this front seat problem, so that others will be saved from being hurt! we were hit in the rear end of our 2000 Dodge minivan, at a low speed, and both of our front seats completely broke backwards, and now I will never be the same from the concussion and brain damage I incurred from the seats breaking! unfortunately, we cannot afford an attorney to help us get some type of compensation from your company, so we are at the mercy of friends and family trying to help us get through all this. Thank you! sincerely, terri & richard coulter, 7570 catawba drive, fontana, CA 92336-1722 1-909-356-0949.
While trying to get into the van, driver fell down against a metal strip that was flat against vehicle due to no support (no step to be used / handle to grab). Vehicle was a rental.
