1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 01/26/2021

Started the vehicle one morning and drove up to a stop sign. I was in a city street making a left turn. Saw clear from both directions of any traffic. Accelerated and the bas,esp light, and traction light came on. At this point the vehicle wanted to stall, lost power, and steering became difficult. Stopped the vehicle and restarted the engine and accelerated again to about 20 mph and the vehicle repeated the stalling and hesitated to accelerate, once above 30 mph all lights continued on and the vehicle kept driving accordingly. Every time the vehicle is started up and drove from that date of Jan. 26,2021 the vehicle malfunctioning continues. I find this to be a severe mechanical problem and a danger to me, my family, and the public.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/28/2017

I was sitting in traffic waiting for the red light to turn green. My right foot slipped off the brake and the van immediately lunged forward. I stepped on the brake ASAP, but the car sitting in front of me was hit in the rear. I have no idea why this rental vehicle lunged forward quickly for no reason. I researched other incidents with this same make and model vehicle and found lots of incidents that were very similar. Some surged in speed for no reason and some lunged forward for no reason; as well as many other scenario's that were similar. Some say it relates to a problem with the tipm and fuel pump and other reasons were cited.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/12/2015

After jim riehl's friendly Chrysler in warren michigan replaced my tipm module for a faulty light problem my van would not decelerate when I took my foot off the accelerator pedal. Thank god it slowed down when I applied the brakes. There are other fault lights on the instrument cluster and I am going back to the dealer to seek a resolution. It was 3am and raining to make matters worse. What were they thinking releasing a defective van back on the roads?.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1996 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/09/2015

While turning into a parking space I touched break and the van accelerated to full throttle. The van jumped the curb and was heading toward 3 people, I turned the steering wheel enough to hit a light pole instead of them. The van quit racing for a few seconds and then revved up again. The light pole fell and I was again headed toward the people. I put both feet on the break and was able to stop the van, but not before hitting the people. Luckily they were just bruised because I just bumped them and didn't run over them. This all happened in a matter of seconds. I almost killed some people and no longer have transportation because the van was totaled.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

As I was driving from the airport, before I just was about to get on the expressway, my speedometer was indicating that I was driving 90 miles per hour when I know for a fact that I was maintaining a speed of 35 miles per hour (keeping with the flow of other vehicles). My dashboard was a mass array of flashing lights. Speedometer was erratic going from 20 to 90. I then suddenly realized that my electrical windows failed to work as well as my doorlocks. I did not know what was happening nor what to expect. I was just praying that I would get home safely. This has happened since then with the speedometer (pretty scary). However, my electric door locks and windows fail to operate since that time. They're dead! nada, zilch! . I purchase this vehicle in illinois and am so sorry that I did. My brakes locked up and my left rear tire was ruined from the tow onto the flatbed, where it was towed to my mechanic. This vehicle has some severe electrical problems.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

I purchased a new van on July 5, 2013. On July 8, 2013, I drove 4 miles, and stopped at a red light. I accelerated to approx. 40 mph, when suddenly the van shifted to the right momentarily, upon which I regained control immediately. Suddenly, the van jolted right again, jumped the curb, climbed an embankment, and would not stop accelerating. I kept pushing the emc controls forward. . . . But it would not stop the vehicle. It is not that the vehicle kept accelerating, but rather, the vehicle would not stop accelerating. As a result, the vehicle only stopped when I crashed through a large evergreen tree (front right passenger area). The van continued to accelerate until I ran head first into a hardware store, which ultimately stopped the vehicle. There was an analysis performed, and I expressed great concern over the lack of information disclosed in the report. The accident occurred on July 8, 2013. Today is December 31, 2013, and I cannot believe that it is taking this long to replace a new van. There was information discovered from the initial mechanic who received the van after the accident, inclusive of photographs, who was told by adjusters to withhold and not disclose the noted information. This concerns me greatly. I do not want another person to endure what I endured, or worse, an innocent person hurt by equipment, or installation of equipment, that may cause a driver not to have control over his/her vehicle. In the report, the specialist used language indicating that the driver "lost control over the vehicle. " that is a completely erroneous statement. A thorough investigation needs to be engaged to determine why an experienced driver, who has an excess of 13 years driving experience with emc/aevit controls was placed in a perilous situation, where the braking system would not stop the vehicle, and the van continued to accelerate, until impact.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

On several occasions the van has shut off when driving. I have to go to the side of the road to a complete stop and then restart the van. I have had it in to several mechanics to try to find out what the issue is and have been told to bring it in when it happens again, which always seems to be when I am on the highway or after hours. I received a recall notice for this issue (l25/NHTSA 14v-373) and have called the dealer several times and was told the part was not available and they would call me as soon as it became available. The last time I called I was told they no longer are making the part of this year vehicle. My question is, that if I have an accident and am injured or killed because this issue has been unresolved who should I let my family know to contact, for damages? I don't feel we should be forced to buy a different vehicle just because the corporation has failed to make sure this vehicle is safe. Please advise.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

I was backing out of a parking space in 2012, when the brakes completely failed, I had to put my vehicle into gear in order for it to stop. Even though I was only going 5 mph or less, I was on a downhill slope. There wasn't an accident nor any damage, so I don't have that to report. The van was taken to towbin Dodge in henderson, nv that weekend I believe and I was told that the recall defect had been fixed. However, the horn, airbag light and abs still do not work. My VIN #1b4gp45l7wb761901, my question is this. If the recall problem is still defective even though it's been repaired, what am I supposed to do?.

Failure Date: 09/30/2004

When starting my 2001 Dodge Caravan sport, the speedometer bounces around and "flips" back behind the piece that is underthe 0 mph, preventing the speedometer from working. It is an imtermittent problem that has become increasingling worse in the last 3 weeks (3 times). The first couple of times I could hit on the dash when the car was off and it would "reset" and work fine, but this does not always work so when I'm driving I can't tell how fast I'm going. No injuries or tickets yet-I haven't been able to take in to be looked at while this was occuring so I could get it fixed. I have also had problems with the driver side window (power) getting stuck down (2 times in last 3 months). I have also had a "rattleing" noise that occurs when I'm driving at a steady 45 mph under the front end. I had a dealer "fix" it under my extended warranty, but it started doing it again after about a week. I have not been able to take it back in to be looked at.

It is an intermittent problem. The speedometer gets stuck on a number but the car is still going faster or slower than shown on the display. It stays stuck for a few minutes when it happens. I try not accelerate and even apply the brake, however, the needle remains stuck. Then it eventually goes back to normal. It just recently happened again, so I was checking to see if a recall was issued for this problem. It was investigated as I see here, however, it was not recalled. This is a defect.
