general problems of the 2006 Dodge Charger - part 2

My 2006 Dodge Charger has developed a stalling issue every time I fill with gas. I have tried different things as far as not filling to the top or not topping it off with gas. I filled with gas along an interstate and when I was trying to get on the interstate it quit on me down the off ramp when I was to merge with traffic. Was able to get car to the side of the interstate and re-start but died again. Started again and then it ran with no issues. Now it has issues every time it is gassed up. I filled up yesterday and same thing died out at a stop sign trying to get on the highway. I have heard this is a big issue with these cars and I'm surprised that there hasn't been anything done to Dodge to fix this issue. I've heard it could cost up to $1,500 to fix. I like the car but it is a safety issue to drive it. Please help! thanks.

The issue is that after fueling up my car I will drive a little ways down the road and the car will shut off and I will need to steer out of the way of traffic and restart the car. This will happen several times after refueling. This appears to be a common problem with 2006 Dodge Chargers, magnums, and Chrysler 300s. It appears that the issue is that fuel was observed entering the purge line prior to initial shut off of the fill nozzle. This causes fuel to escape from the fuel tank assembly into the evaporative system. The multi-function control valve’s refueling float stays stuck in an open position and is the cause of this issue. “rich fuel” gets into the engine and the engine will shut down. The NHTSA has investigated the issue under investigation number pe13-016. I was directed to report the issue to the NHTSA website if I have the issue, which I do.

After refueling vehicle it will stall at low steeds. Sometimes it will stall at a stop and others when making a turn it will completely shut off. This has been ongoing for the past 3 years so it mostly the car sits in the garage.

Power shuts off randomly, stalling, acceleration lost, but will fire right back up if you flip the key around or put in neutral. Very unsafe if traffic coming and it shuts right down. Also while in park it's shuts off.

My vehicle stalls after I fuel it. I googled it and saw that similar Chargers (2006 rts with 5. 7 liter engines) were part of a recall. I called the Chrysler recall center and they said my VIN was not included on the lifetime replacement /fix for this issue. They told me that the issue was �VIN specific�. My car does all of the same things that the recalled vehicles do - it stalls at low speeds and when stopped at traffic lights right after I fuel it. It does not stall/die at high speeds, but instead �sputters�. It usually takes about 20 miles after fueling for the stalling/ �dying� to stop.

After filling up with fuel my Charger will stall. It has happened 5 or 6 separate occasions over the past 2 years. I generally do not fill the car up all the way because of this. However just today I had the same problem after accidentally filling it. I do not top off the car when filling once the nozzle clicks off I stop. Today after getting gas I went to pull out into traffic and the car stalled. The power steering would not work the engine shut off and I was stranded halfway out into the lane of oncoming traffic. I put the car in park and restarted it and drove about 20 feet before it shut off again. This is a huge safety issue. I thought I was going to be hit. I did manage to get the car home which is about two miles away but I had to restart it four more times. I've got roughly 80,000 miles on the car I have always kept up with maintenance and with any repairs that needed to be done. I searched online to see if there was a recall for this problem but there doesn't seem to be even though a lot of people seem to be having the same problem not only with the Chargers but with three hundreds as well.

I have had this 2006 Dodge Charger for a while . Now it's been stalling and sometimes shutting off for no reason. Me and my 3 year old grandbaby was at a red light and the light turned green, I started to go car stalled and shut off. No was behind me at the time, so I was trying to get it to start,when I looked up . Saw a truck flying up on us. Thank god no one was beside us or he would of rear ended us. My boyfriend is a mechanic. He has worked for Chrysler for over 32 years. He can't seem to find the cause of it. No codes nothing. He can't talking to half of the bus. We replaced throttle body,tcm,pcm and some other things. Still nothing has helped. I have owned two other Chargers. This one is a night mare. Please do something. I'm getting to the point I'm scared to drive it.

Filled up my 2006 Dodge Charger 5. 7l hemi v8 today and I got out of the gas station parking lot then it stalled out and died. I had my two small children with me, and I was on an extremely busy houston street having to try to get my car home with it repeatedly dying anytime I had to slow down to come to a stop at a light or accelerate from a stop. This has never happened before, and the vehicle was running fine until I filled it up. I did not over fill, I never top off.

My car has a constant smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. This odor is most prevalent when you first start the car and remains. The odor is strongest when the car is started and the ac is on, the odor is made worse by switching the ac selector to pull in air from outside the vehicle. This greatly concerns me because I dont want to be engaging deadly methane fumes. Dodge told me they would diagnose the issue for 130 but I feel a safety risk such as this should be examined free of charge by the manufacturer before some is poisoned or dies.

Every time I get gas and start the engine, it jerks and dies after driving a few hundred feet. I start it again and it keeps doing the same thing repeatedly. I'm afraid to pull into traffic because I don't know when it's going to just stop running. I feel this is a very unsafe situation. It has been going on for about 2 years now. Last night was the most recent occurrence.

There is deterioration in the upper parts of the filler pipe. The vent (can't recall the proper name) causes the sensors to think that gas is overfilling which shuts off the car (like some cars that will not start if the gas cap is not on completely. ) replacing this part will not solve the problem long term.

Every time I fill car with fuel right after fueling it dies . Sometimes 2-3 times. Can be hard to restart. Already replaced evap solenoid did not correct. This is know issue with fca VIN range should be expanded.

After every time I fill up the gas (not top off)the car stalls out.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer (Nissan bros Nissan: 5750 mesmer Ave directions ste. A, culver city, CA 90230 where the diagnosed failure was the vapor recovering system. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired under an extended warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown. Nb.

For the past couple of months when I fill up or top off in gas, as soon as I start to drive the car eithe stalls or completely cut not while driving. I'm bieber has happened while in the highway after fueling up as well as on the city streets. Due this malfunction, I have almost been rear ended.

My Dodge Charger cuts off while driving or while sitting at stop lights. I am able to start up again but then it shuts off at the next stop light or while driving on the interstate. There is no trouble codes or check engine lights.

After filling up, my car engine stalls. I took it to the mechanic and was told Chrysler knows about it. I looked it up on your site and indeed found pe13016 but disagree with the finding being that it is a low safety issue. This has happened multiple times where I would be in the middle of traffic and the engine stalls and shuts off and the steering locks up where I can't steer the car whatsoever. The mechanic told me that it was due to a fuel vapor lock in which the evap valve stays open and due to it, the engine runs rich because of the fuel. I was told not to overfill in which I have stopped, however, this happens just by filling up. I have had to rev the engine to burn off gas until the engine stops stalling. Every time, I've stopped traffic in the middle of the road and it has happened at night as well where visibility is low and almost got hit because my car stalled. It has also happened right before turning in a busy intersection and thankful that it happened right before I made the turn. Every time it has happened I've been in motion on a city street and a few times on a highway but every time I was about to turn. The first time it happened, I didn't know and got the tow truck to tow the car and had the police to come behind me because in his words, I was in an unsafe location, so that no other oncoming vehicles would hit me. The date that I placed on when it happened is the last date it has happened thus far as of this writing.

The vehicle remained parked at the contact's house with no repairs completed. The failure mileage was 170,000.

Car stalls 5 or 6 times at a low speed or stop after fueling every time I fuel.

Immediately after a fuel fill up the engine will stall several times in forward or reverse. This will continue until the engine has operated for 4 to 5 minutes. The engine has failed on me several times at intersections and when pulling onto roadways. . . Very dangerous place to stall. There have been many reports made to the nhtsb and Dodge forums on this issue. I just had my fuel cannister replaced and the problem remains.

While merging onto the interstate my engine shut completely off; I lost power steering and all throttle control. After pulling onto the side of the road I was able to turn the ignition on and drive away like normal. I have a 5. 7l hemi and the car has 37,700 miles.

Vehicle stalls out while driving or sitting at traffic control devices. Sometimes after refueling. Mostly at times while driving 55 or 60 mph and while slowing to turn causing the car to lose all powers. Check engine light, oil and etc all come on when this happens. This vehicle only has 48,000 original miles. Very dangerous while driving with my precious grandbabies in the car. Have had to the car to two Dodge dealerships and they can not find a problem. I have even replace the computer and it did not correct the performance of the vehicle.

My car completely shut off on me as I was driving it. This happened to me on 01/13/17 as I was leaving the gas station (after refueling). I was merging onto the freeway at the time, which turned out to be a blessing as I was able to merge into a safe location on the highway. After reading about similar cases online, I found this to be a reoccurring issue in the 06 Chargers / Chrysler models. This is definitely a major safety concern. Why has there not been a recall yet ??.

I was able turn everything off in the car and restart but it happened 3 other times within 2 miles. At one point while turning left on a highway it died; I was almost to a point to hitting other cars turning left in same direction and others behind me. I was able to drive 4 miles today without incident however after researching this exact issue among other Charger owners I searched for a recall and nothing has been said by Dodge. This issue doesn't seem to be from personal actions but a flaw in a system on this make/model. It has happened to me twice before a few years ago however I read something about a gas cap and felt it was isolated. After last night and reading blogs today I see that this is a wide spread issue and not caused by not maintaining a vehicle or bad driving. This is an issue in design or manufacturing. Had this happened in any other driving setting during rush hour someone could be seriously injured or killed. I notified Dodge and reported the issue but they said I would not be contacted and to keep receipts if something was wrong in case they do recall something. Why hasn't this been corrected after all these reports for the same issue to this many of the same vehicles? this has been happening since I reported it in Jan of 2017 on safercar. Gov. No action or contact has been made.

After filling up at a gas station, the car will stall out randomly at all speeds of travel. This is a huge safety issue that has sht down the car while merging onto freeway in front of semi-trucks only to have power steering and propulsion stop. Luckily truck was paying attention and honked and swerved around, while I rode off onto the shoulder. Then it restarted, ran for another minute and stalled again while trying to get back off the shoulder. I ended up letting it idle for 5 min before being able to merge successfully and get home. Online I have seen many people saying they have same or similar issues with their 2006 Dodge vehicles as well. Please help to get this resolved as this could have very well killed someone.

My 2006 Dodge Charger keep stalling while driving. I was sitting at a light getting to ready to turn and the car stopped in the middle of the turn. Thankful it was a turn signal or I would have been hit. Also the engine light come on and the car just stalls then - you can wait about 5 min. And it will start back up. Upon doing my research I am unsure to why their has not been a recall. I was on the highway and it starts to stall then I hit the gas and it keeps going.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. After filling the vehicle with fuel, it stalled without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired the failure continued intermittently. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 179,000.

After fuel up, car stalls. This is very unsafe as I was turning in front of on-coming traffic and car stalls and car just stops. Was able to have cars avoid hitting me and eventually started car again - only to have it stall once again. Car only has 30,000 miles on it for a 10 year car - this is a limited edition daytona. Very unhappy to find out about the number of complaints and Dodge hasn't done anything to remedy this 'manufacturer failure'! seriously considering selling this vehicle and swearing off all Dodge makes in the future. . . . . . . Have been a loyal Dodge consumer since the 70's!.

Car stalls after getting gas. Has stalled while on the highway at 60mph, and has also stalled in the middle of an intersection almost causing an accident. Hard to control and no power steering when it stalls.
