1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2021

Every time I fill my car up with gas and drive off from the gas station into on coming traffic the car will stall in the middle of the road I almost got hit in the side just yesterday. I got online and did some research and found out that there is a problem with the gas tanks on these cars that cause them to stall after putting gas in them.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2021

Filled gas tank, did not top off. Left parking lot and the car died going down the road. Happened 3 times that day. Has happened many times since November 2020, didn't know you had complaint line. This left me with no steering or brakes. It has now gotten to the point of the car won't even start now. I am afraid that damage from this issue has 'taken' my car, as it will no longer start. We upkeep our vehicles with regular maintenance.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

2006 Dodge Charger daytona r/t randomly stalls while driving or parked. No check engine light gets produced. In that split second that it shuts off, the car loses power completely and no brakes or power steering. This is extremely dangerous, and Dodge should issue a recall immediately to fix this issue. Most sources point to a faulty gas tank that has a lifetime warranty now but should be recalled.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2020

I filled my gas tank up and when I did as I was driving at around 15-20mph my car stalled on me and later on it shut off as I was coming to a stop this happens every time I fill my gas tank up.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled when the fuel tank was filled up completely. The contact was able to restart the vehicle with no further issues. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer informed the contact to call NHTSA. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failuire mileage was 64,000.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2019

Recently, after pumping gas into my car and after driving for a few moments, the car stops as I approach a stop sign or a light. This has happened to me immediately after at least 3 recent gas fill-ups. I shut off my car and start it up again and after driving a short period, it happens again. This only happens after I pump gas into my vehicle (2006 Dodge Charger r/t). This has happened on city streets as I am fearful of going on the expressways with the possibility of it stalling and stopping. I believe there is a faulty valve or gas tank situation.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2019

Filled up tank. Drove car for 1/2 hour approx 30 miles. While making a left hand turn at a low rate of speed the car stalled, shut it self off. The oil lamp and traction control light came on. Car would not fire back up. Took a few attempts. Upon restarting the car was running rough. Continue driving at very low speed attempting to turn into parking stall car again stalled and shut it self off. Felt the car was unsafe to drive home. Had it towed.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2018

After fueling gas tank to full level the car starts and runs fine for approximately two blocks down the street then the engine abruptly shuts off and stalls in traffic (dangerous). The vehicle requires restarting twice more before it will run normally. This happens every time the gas tank is fully filled. No problem if the tank is filled less than full. This has occurred the last three times gas tank was fully fueled. 2006 Dodge Charger srt8 6. 1l hemi.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2018

Takata inflators. When I fill the tank with gas and start driving it will sputter, jerk and stall. When it stalls and I finally get it started, I press on the gas lightly it doesn't move and then it lunges forward. This just started in the last month, but it now happens every time I fill the tank for about the first 20-30 miles driven. I've read that his is an issue with these cars. I also see the warranty has been extended to many vehicles regarding this issue but on this particular car there is no recall for this VIN. The car has 57500 miles on it.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

The vehicle stalls while driving, no matter the speed, and the power steering goes out when vehicle stalls preventing me from being able to steer the vehicle. This has happened several times, even on the interstate with other fast moving vehicles behind me, and is very dangerous. I have had different parts replaced trying to fix the problem, and was told the entire fuel tank will have to be replaced to solve the problem. I went online to see if other Dodge owners experienced the same problem, and was amazed at the thousands of people complaining about the exact same thing. This website is one of many. . Read more...

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2018

Car stutters and shuts off after I fuel up my 19gal gas tank. Car turns off when idle after fueling up. Did see that for my make and model and year of car there were warranties extended for gas tank to be replaced with the same issue, never received a recall for my vehicle. And dealership will not touch my gas tank.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

The car stalled as I was driving. I have looked up this issue before and people have said it has something to do with the fuel tank. A dealership has replaced the fuel tank a few months back and today it stalled again. This is the first time this has happened since replacing the fuel tank. It appears this is a bigger problem than just the fuel tank. There should be a recall placed before people are seriously hurt and/or killed. The car shuts off while driving. If it is on the freeway then it'll be catastrophic on what can happen. The car also loses steering when it shuts off causing a bigger problem.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2017

Pump a full tank and the car stalls at low rpm on a city street when in motion and not in motion happen about 6 time after I put a full tank been goin on for about a month.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2017

When I fill up the gas tank of my vehicle, starts properly and runs good for a few minutes then stalls, pull to the side of the road, start again and runs fine for a few more minutes and then it does it again, vehicle is in motion or stationary, it happen also twice when turning and power steering went out almost ran out of the road the first time and the second had to apply brakes hard in order to avoid collision with another vehicle, very un-safe and dangerous. When driven about 40-60 the problem goes away and then starts all over when gas tank is filled up again. I do not have photos, police report or any other documentation to upload and hope not to have any to get this issue resolved.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2017

The last time I filled up my car, it kept stalling and I would lose power steering and brakes while in traffic with my children in car. Not very safe feeling. Scared I was going to get hit with family in car. It would start up but it would keep stalling until I ran a few gallons out of it. I filled it up again today and noticed a sucking noise coming from gas tank. It started up then stalled as I took off. So I pulled over and kept starting it up every time it stalled. After about an hour of not stalling I drove home and parked in garage. It would stall going straight and turning.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2017

Major safety issue. After refueling, my vehicle stalls anywhere from 1-6 times at random times. It happens at highway speeds, and city driving. There is a total loss of power (brakes and steering included) had a very close call of causing an accident due to this issue. This issue is supposedly covered by extended lifetime warranty but my VIN is not "eligible" for some reason. In order to fix the issue, the gas tank has to be replaced $1500+ expense. Very disappointed that Dodge abandon my here. Even though im experiencing the issue, im not eligible because my VIN range missed the lifetime warranty.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving various speeds, the valve inside of the fuel tank allowed raw fuel to enter into the fuel lines, which caused the vehicle to stall without warning. The dealer (mclnerney's woodhaven Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep located at 23940 allen rd, woodhaven, michigan, 48183) stated that the failure was under recall; however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2016

My 2006 Dodge Charger rt stalls intermittently while I'm turning a corner on a city street or stopped at a red light. When it stalls, I do not have power steering. This is extremely dangerous because I could get hit. Sometimes it stalls more often after I fill up with gas. I do not overfill. I have been filing my gas tank the same way for 10 years and until October of 2016 it has never been a problem.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the fuel tank could only be partially filled due to a leak. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 120,000.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

My 2006 Charger will stall and or jolt violently as soon as I leave the gas station, and it is only when I fill up my tank. After restarting the vehicle twice and driving a short while I do not have any problems, it only happens when I fill up my gas tank. I know that newer vehicle fuel tanks are designed not to be force filled due to the special evap system. I only fill the tank till the station pump nozzle clicks off, which is what I was told how to fill these newer vehicles. This problem has been going on for over several months, though I have not had any traffic accidents, I fear that this is an accident waiting to happen.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

I went and filled my gas tank and drove away from store about 200 feet and car completely shut off while driving had to pay 100 dollars to get towed only 2miles away from local repair shop.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

Filled tank up with gas day before this happened. Driving down road at 25 mph the car stalled. It would restart and stall again.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. When the contact filled the fuel tank using the automatic shut off, the vehicle would stall or shut off with the oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure continued to occur intermittently. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

After refueling vehicle, engine stalled while making left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic, leaving me stuck in middle of intersection. Engine will stall coming to a stop, accelerating from a stop, turning corners, and a couple times while just driving down the road. When you restart motor, transmission will not reengage right away. Doesn't seem to happen if you keep fuel level below 14 gallons. Dodge dealership has said it might be a valve on top of fuel tank. Been happening for a while but seems to be getting worse.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving 60 mph, the engine would shut off. The eas code indicator illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who found a manufacturer recall pertaining to the fuel tank. The contact did not receive a recall notification. The manufacturer stated that they could not assist since the vehicle was too old. The contact also stated that the vehicle stalled after fuel was added to the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to village Dodge, inc. (819 NY-66, hudson, NY 12534, (518) 828-1585) and the failure was repaired. The stalling failure had not been resolved. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle's computer system misread that there was no fuel in the tank. As a result, all the electrical components shut off. The failure mileage was 54,000.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2016

When trying to fuel the car, the pump continually clicks off like the tank is full. Will also spit fuel back out while pumping (no matter how slow you try to pump). I don't see how this isn't a safety issue.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact found a recall related to the fuel tank. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the fuel tank was replaced; however, the vehicle began to slow down to approximately 35 mph when reaching high speeds. Additionally, the rpms would continue to increase without the acceleration matching the rpm increase. The contact informed the manufacturer who opened a case on the contact's behalf and informed the contact that there was no recall relating to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

After fiilling the gas tank of the 2006 Dodge Charger r/t the Charger has stalled numerous times after leaving the gas station. The Charger would restart. This is a vehicle safety issue. The 2006 Dodge Charger r/t has also stalled out on highway on ramps a couple of times. The Charger would restart but the cars behind were not very happy. This is also traffic safety problem.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

I have complained on this vehicle multiple times now. It continues to have a randomly stalling engine while driving. The dealership claims it is not the gas tank. It has finally started causing the check engine light to come on (yay! it might actually get fixed). Just kidding! the dealership states that the codes that show up are general pcm codes that mean nothing. From online research, it appears it may be an electrical issue with the pcm, ecm, or numerous other parts. Either way, most of us go without cars for weeks while mechanics cannot find the actual cause thus cannot fix a dangerous vehicle. Most of us don't want to drive vehicles that stall while going 40 mph.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

I got my fuel tank replaced under warranty (new fuel tank & o-ring part #s: cnstx531aa and cnstx532aa) and now stalling is worse than before. Engine wants to stall anywhere from 0-30 mph now whether the tank is full, half empty or near empty. The car's stalling can be prevented by providing quick acceleration, which will temporary fix the issue, only to have it come back later. The choice between stalling at high speeds and losing power steering & other necessities, or quickly accelerating to prevent a stall, leave drivers with two unsafe, dangerous choices each. The fuel tank recall did not remedy the issue. If anything, it made it worse, more dangerous, and made a minor defect/annoyance into a serious problem that can not be "burnt off" like the excess gas in the previous fuel tank. Dealerships give us the run around. Saying they either don't have the piece, or they refuse to replace it because we already have the new, yet still faulty, fuel tank. It's becoming a serious issue with no real remedy in sight. The dealership blames Chrysler/Dodge and Chrysler/Dodge blames the dealership. The two point fingers and scapegoat each other, leaving the customer to either replace everything out-of-pocket or drive a seriously impaired and dangerous vehicle. I went in to the dealership with two minor dtc codes that I planned on repairing (they were nonimmediate and not serious) and left the dealership with 15 codes. Chrysler even gave me a "case manager" for this, but the case manager said all they can do is rely on the dealership's diagnostics. . . Literally just a waste of time. Why even assign a case manager? I took the car in to replace the fuel tank since it was under warranty (aka free). . . I'm a college student with no finances for repair. Now, I'm left with a faulty, unsafe, nearly inoperable vehicle with no other means of transportation. Someone needs to step in.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

I filled my gas tank (but did not top it off with fuel) and left the gas station at the first intersection. The car stalled while braking, the car came back on, accelerated against brakes, died again and wouldn't turn over afterward. Had to turn the car all the way off and back on to restart the car, only to have it do it three more times on the way home. It feels like a serious accident waiting to happen. I read up on the issue and found that it's very common. Dodge needs to fix this problem. We paid for a vehicle to safely transport us -- this is not safe.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

When merging onto the freeway upon slight acceleration the engine died, in front of a semi truck! we had no power steering or brakes! this is a huge safety issue!! we were lucky to not have crashed. I then turned key to off and restarted to resolve the issue. This has happened 6 more times at lower speeds I. E. 15mph, 20, 30 mph ranges, with no check engine light!? brought it into mechanic and they couldn't find the issue, car had no codes. They suggested replacing the crank position sensor. We did that and it was fine. . For 15 miles until it died again!!! still no codes, dealer wont help, I can't drive the car as it is unsafe. I did some internet searches. Found about a known issue with the fuel evap system and the fuel tank and filler neck. These faulty parts cause the car to read false rich signals and causes the engine to run leaner. So now, lack of appropriate fuel upon acceleration causes the engine to stall and lose effected drive systems. This is ludicrous from Chrysler how many deaths has this caused!?!?.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

The vehicle continues to die randomly. This time, the vehicle died while attempting to accelerate onto the interstate (from the ramp). This time we took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and said nothing about the possibility that it could be related to the fuel tank valve. The independent mechanic believes it is the fuel tank valve and recommended we contact Dodge because the car should be included in the TSB and the tank be replaced.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

Hi, I've had a number of issues with the fuel tank scenario the earlier models suffer with. When I fill the car, it stalls a number of times. I was in a situation where I was coming to a light, the rpm¿s started to drop and the engine started to die as I was breaking. Then the car revved back to life and this cause the rpm¿s to shoot up jolting the vehicle forward. Immediately after it died yet again however the issue is I lost all power, steering, brakes, everything. From the jolt forward I came dangerously close to rear ending the car in front of me with a heavy brake pedal. At this point I was jarred a bit, and needed to get the car going again. I went to start it and it did no¿t want to turn over for roughly 30 seconds. The light changed and there was a lineup of disgruntled drivers behind me as I made efforts to get going again. Then inevitably the vehicle died yet again in the middle of the intersection and went through the same situation. To negate this, I have made efforts to not fill the tank. Now the bigger issue I am having is that when I go to put gas in the car, it does not take. I cannot get a gallon in without the pump clicking off. It takes me quite some time, 10 minutes even to simply put $20 in the car, and I get very frustrated gas attendants here in jersey if I'm not permitted to do man the pump. You need to literally stand with it and continue to reset the pump as it slowly takes and continuously clicks off. This problem needs to be solved, it I¿s simply unacceptable and dangerous. I have many other instances & dates with stalling and jolting issues after fillup. Even when I leave a 1/4 of the tank empty, I still get some symptoms. Not as often, but the car still does die out. Now that it is so difficult to fill, it is inconvenient to drive. I love the car but the issues are almost not worth it, especially with how thirsty the srt is-no pun thanks.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

While driving my 2006 Dodge Charger, at interstate speeds, while operating with cruise control, a single alarm sounded, the vehicle lost power and completely shut down, only to restart seconds later and accelerate again. Since that incident, the vehicle has stalled on multiple occasions, while driving at nearly any speed, accelerating, stopped at lights, every scenario imaginable. On two separate occasions while pulling out of a parking lot, making a left hand turn, the vehicle has completely stalled leaving me sitting in the oncoming lane of traffic, once nearly being hit in the driver side door. If I had to describe one situation that seems to take precedence, it would be mostly when accelerating. The problem occurs randomly, and at times will not stall at all for several days, then stall 10 times in one day. It has nothing to do with the fuel level, full tank full, half, or empty, right after fill-ups, or before. It is a random problem that can and will occur anytime, under any circumstance. This is certainly a safety issue, and will ultimately result in someone's injury. In reading multiple post on the internet (hundreds/thousands) it is obviously a common problem, but there does not really ever seem to be a definitive answer to correct.
